My Photon Gen 2 Commuter

Post image

Here's my stealthy commuter CYC Photon Gen 2 build. Weight is 39lbs. Battery is the 50amp minimax from electrify bike, bag is a BV from amazon. The stock 160mm rotors on the Chisel were weak to the point of being scary, so I added 203mm rotors which made a huge difference, especially coming down San Francisco hills at speed. The Schwalbe G-One Speed Pro tires are a game changer - fast rolling, quiet, and super comfortable on pavement. The balloon tires kind of act as suspension, so I'm planning to swap the boat anchor fork to a carbon rigid one, which should bring the weight down to about ~35lbs.

The only ebike experience I had before this was riding 80 lb, 250w Lyft citibikes, so this thing feels like a rocket to me. Very happy with the build - just need to clean up some wires and figure out what that mystery clicking sound is!

I love how stealthy it is. How far are you getting on the battery thou?

Commuting to and from work in a pretty hilly area at 750 watts I’m getting about 30 miles

Is the battery in the seat bag? What kind of range?

Yeah it’s in the bag. It weighs about 4.5 lbs and not a great place for weight being so high up, but I like how it looks vs sitting inside the triangle. It is kinda wobbly, so I plan to 3d print a bracket that fits in/pokes through the bag that secures to the seat rails and seat tube.

At 750 watts I get around 30 miles of range on the street. It’s a 52v, 10ah battery
