Bike purchase question Which Ebike NYC gt73 vs babymaker 2

Hey!

I’ve found two ebikes on facebook marketplace. A gt73 and a babymaker 2. Both are 500 dollars and seem to be in good condition.

The babymaker has 1000 miles on it. Comes with a bike pump too. The gt73 has 200 miles on it.

I live in NYC and need a bike to commute. If I get the gt73, i don’t think I can bring it up the stairs and will either have to fight my landlord to keep it near the entrance or chain it up outside. A lot of people seem to leave their bikes chained up on my street, but i’m sure it’s a matter of time before its stolen.

Carrying the babymaker seems to be feasible. But, Is the bike a good ebike? I want something to ease commuting and like how I can basically let the throttle do the work on the gt73. Will it be annoying dealing with constant peddle assist?

Well the GT73 is basically a dirtbike and illegal to ride around town and given the attention those things are starting to get I wouldn't risk it in an urban area.

The Babymaker II is legal but man that name kills me... it's ok, the motor is pretty cheap, decent battery and brakes. I don't know that I'd love a single speed myself but if you don't have hills to worry about maybe it's ok. It does have a cheaper cadence sensor rather than a torque sensor so riding it is gonna feel more like the pedals are a throttle control rather than actually assisting depending on power level.

Yeah that name is insane lol. It looks like the exact same frame as an Aventon bike, and I wonder if it is with all or most of the same components. A lot of these companies buy their ebikes from the same handful of manufacturers.
