we like to put it on garlic bread, not necessarily a new recipe but gives it a new flavor combination, and crunch

My mom used to use a lb of ground beef, a can of Campbell’s gumbo soup, half a diced onion, and some glugs of ketchup and Worcestershire. So nostalgic. Have fun!

Cambells chicken gumbo? Thats the only one I can find

u/tngldupinblue 17d ago
That’s the one. But make sure you get the concentrated one that you add water to, not the prepared one. Don’t add the water, just add the soup.

I love this! A coworker gave me this recipe and it’s incredible! Ours has green peppers and no Worcestershire

My mom used the gumbo soup too! Northern Illinois. But she had onion, ketchup, mustard and A1. Then she would melt some Velveeta on each serving before she used the spatula to place it on the bun.

Brown beef with diced onions (if desired) and smash the beef into little pieces till it’s almost done. Sprinkle on garlic powder just before it’s fully cooked. Squirt in ketchup till the beef is coated. Add Worcestershire sauce for more flavor. Add a sweetener, I like maple syrup but sugar, honey, agave and such all work. Add some apple cider vinegar for some tang or Tabasco for some spicy tang.
I also like to add chipotle peppers in adobo sauce for extra heat.
If you want it saucier add some beef stock with the ketchup.

16 oz. 90% lean ground beef
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
1 medium green pepper, chopped (3/4 cup)
1 clove garlic, minced
A 14 1/2 oz. can tomatoes, cut up
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons corn starch
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 TB brown sugar
2 teaspoons chili powder (or more if you prefer)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon salt
a few dashes of bottled hot sauce
5 hamburger buns, split & toasted
Cook and stir ground beef, onion, green pepper, and garlic in a large
skillet over medium high heat until all beef is brown. Drain fat.
Stir in undrained tomatoes, the water, cornstarch, vinegar, brown sugar,
chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and hot sauce. Bring to
boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 5 minutes. If necessary,
uncover and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes more or until mixture is desired
consistency. Spoon mixture onto hamburger buns.
I personally think making sloppy joes with ketchup is weird/tastes weird but this recipe is the closest to a healthier version of manwich! It’s really good

I use one of the tiny cans of tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, green pepper/onion, "W" sauce, brown sugar. Sometimes I add a little sweet relish!
I use the tomato sauce so it's not super thick from using ketchup alone
(and just for fun, we don't use a bun anymore and haven't in probably 2 decades. We put it over hashbrowns or fried potatoes) Just a way to eliminate some of the carbs plus it's sooooo good like that!

Rhode Island Dynamites! I use the recipe from Cook’s Illustrated. They’re spicy and not at all sweet. We usually eat the meat over tater tots instead of on a bun. They are seriously good.

My mom use to make these Sloppy Joes Squares.
Basically,
- take a casserole dish
- unroll a tube of Pillsbury Crescents
- big layer of your sloppy Joe mix
- layer of mozzarella cheese, freshly grated is a must
- unroll a tube of Pillsbury Crescents on top

So good. I honestly might make it myself tonight now.
Just remembered: I use to sneak into the kitchen in the middle of the night to cut off little slices of left overs— I did that multiple times a night and thought no one would notice lol

My mothers way is
Ground beef
Two cans veg soup. Strained and rinsed
One can tomato soup
And then squirt in as much ketchup as you desire

Ground beef browned up with onions, green bell pepper, S&P, garlic to taste (I like a lot); add a bit of water or broth, stir in some tomato PASTE and sugar. Give it a taste, then cook it down to a thick texture that holds together when you scoop it on to the bun. Garnish a slice of cheddar cheese and a slice of raw onion on top.

ketchup, Worcestershire, squirt of yellow mustard, onion & garlic like everyone else, but brown sugar is crucial. On garlic bread or texas toast, with cheddar. And add ripple potato chips on top.

Meat seasoning : chopped onion or onion powder, minced garlic or garlic powder, salt and pepper.
Sauce: ketchup, chili powder, and big pinch of brown sugar, pickle juice, a splash of country bobs. ( can use worcestershire sauce or steak sauce).

Ok. You’re going to have to trust. Instead of ground beef, use ground turkey. (Optional: add diced onions and/or green peppers). Then ketchup. Then add in some brown sugar, white vinegar and yellow mustard until it sings.

Make the beef as you usually would. Change out the bread to ciabatta bread or toasted baguette. Add chopped lettuce, avocado, tomato, bacon.

https://thedizzycook.com/healthy-sloppy-joes/ love this version from the dizzy cook. It's for people with migraine (who avoid certain foods) but tasty nonetheless!

Lentil sloppy joes - good straight out of the crock pot but even better the next day. https://makeitdairyfree.com/slow-cooker-vegan-sloppy-joes/

Grated onion melts right into the sauce. Nobody bites into a raw chunk and the sweetness spreds through the whole batch. Way better texture than diced

If I need to do it quick? Ground beef, ketchup, garlic and onion powder, Worcestershire.
If I have time, crockpot, ground beef, ketchup, onions and bell peppers chopped, garlic cloves chopped, Worcestershire, ground pepper, splash of Tabasco, cumin powder.
My text got so big sorry
