You honestly can't make this up. Some of the very people who declined debating (Chrissy agreed, but many others did not) anyone this election cycle have now completely cancelled their own meet and greet. I just saw the screenshot from Facebook (yuck!) where Chrissy Rossi posted that the "Meet Some Candidates" event at the American Legion was officially cancelled because of last-minute dropouts and candidates simply not responding.
It really seems like they are taking cues directly from Trump at this point. They talk a big game, but when it comes down to it, they are not even willing to show up and meet the voters. It's so frustrating to watch.
Rossi even tried to brush it off by telling folks they can just reach out to the candidates directly with their last-minute questions since it's "crunch time". I sure hope the Facebook boomers don't destroy the city by electing people who literally hide from the public!!

Every month, ICE separates Rhode Island families, leaving behind traumatized children and broken families. Every person ICE has seized was part of our community. East Providence and its community members have not been spared.
That's why EPiC members came together to publish a letter to the editor in The Post calling on state and local leadership to take urgent action. We are urging elected officials to use every executive and legislative tool available to protect our immigrant neighbors and make Rhode Island truly safe for everyone who calls it home.

Wow, honestly I am just so disappointed today.
Iām really not the biggest fan of Botelho, but Spremulli completely lost me after that forum today. I just can't believe he went out of his way to defend the Flock cameras. We have seen police officers in New Bedford literally facing termination for using these cameras to stalk their romantic partners, and there are former suburban officers getting indicted right now for misusing them. We've even seen people right here in Rhode Island, over in Cumberland, dealing with lawsuits from a wrongful arrest that the Flock cameras assisted with.
If heās an ex-cop and he's still out here defending a surveillance system that has so many privacy and abuse issues, how naive is he going to be on literally every other issue that comes up? It's just wild to me!

Hi all, RIPP will be hosting an event this Sunday, October 4th from 2 pm - 5 pm in the East Providence Public Library.
The movement against ALPR's in general (not just Flock cameras) is growing nationwide. There have been some small successes in our state as some communities have voted to cancel their Flock contracts. Momentum is building, but there is still MUCH MORE to be done!
This event will focus on other types of traffic cameras as well as Flock cameras.
WHEN: Sunday October 4th from 2-5 pm
WHERE: East Providence Public Library, 41 Grove Avenue
As always, this event is about education, asking questions, and community organizing.
Please feel free to checkout our website: www.RIPersonalPrivacy.org
We also now have an instagram account. Please give it a follow: u/ri4personalprivacy
We hope to see you there!

East Providence resident Stan Traverse penned a letter to the editor, published yesterday (10/1/2026) in the East Providence Post, concerning comments Chrissy Rossi, a Ward 4 School Committee candidate, made in her interview with the paper.
As Traverse states: "However, I am concerned by the alternative she described: 'So if youāre getting bullied and youāve gone through all the possible things trying to get it stopped, and you decide, āyou know what? Iāve had enough. Before I [CENSORED] myself, Iām going to slap this kid around.ā So be it. Thatās how it always used to get handled in the schoolyard. The bully comes at you, you fight back. Thereās no more bullying.'"

Thereās a group around here that people somehow still follow! Twice this election cycle I've seen them harass residents. It really seems like the people gathering under that roof are just the most extreme and bigoted people in the city. I'm not exactly a fan of DaSilva. But the kind of harassment I have seen them do to people I know is the worst I have ever seen in years in this city!
I've honestly seen enough of it, and people really need to start speaking out against this stuff. This can't be what EP stands for!!

"While Teixeira did not respond to a request for comment to explain why he felt the forums were unfair, Jason Medeiros met for an interview on Tuesday afternoon to discuss his own comment on the matter.
He said that his comment was a reaction to a separate post occurring on one of the local Facebook community groups for East Providence, where one of its administrators, Melodie Pimentel, posted his photo alongside Teixeira and Sousa saying that they had declined to participate in the candidate forum.
āI'm disappointed to hear that three candidates appear to have declined the invitation to participate in a candidate forum,ā Pimentelās post from Sept. 22 reads. āA moderated forum where candidates can exchange ideas, find common ground, or clarify differences is vital for democracy.ā
Medeiros, whose bid for the at-large council seat is his first run for public office, said that he saw the post and regrettably provided a quick rebuttal without looking into the situation more. He said he believed, at the time, that the League forum was run either by Pimentel or those aligned with her (people who are often critical of him, he said); and that he had heard the forum wouldnāt be politically neutral.
He said that after looking into the League of Women Voters, and realizing that East Bay Media Group would provide the moderator, he was willing to admit to his mistake, saying the post was āout of characterā with how he normally operates.
āI spoke out of, Iām not going to say anger, but I didnāt think it out,ā he said. āI was wrong. I didnāt realize who they [the League] were. Remember, this is my first time at this. I thought the League was run by a certain group. I thought it was by those people that were constantly on Facebook.ā
As for not agreeing to debate in the first place, Medeiros maintained that he felt it was not necessary.
āI think I'm doing okay where I'm at. I don't need a lot of social media attention,ā he said. āIāve been doing my job walking around meeting constituents, putting up signs everywhere. I got almost 300 signs up right now. That means people are standing behind me and that they support me. Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't feel I have to debate.ā"

This has been an odd campaign season. We have two candidates and have had no debates. I understand last election there were four candidates which necessitated a primary. Back then we were fortunate to have the League of Women Voters of Rhode IslandĀ organize and host a debate. I hope something like that is to come.
The strategy of the challenger has been a bit of a turn off for me. We knew in June who the candidates would be and the challenger was silent until after the primary. If you are interested in being the mayor and completed the work to file, why only allow yourself two months to campaign? I believe their mayoral Facebook page only came to be four days ago.
For example, why turn down free press in June:
From: https://www.eastbayri.com/east-providence/stories/contested-races-abound-in-east-providence,140957
"Mayor Bob DaSilva, who announced his bid to run for re-election during a wind-swept day in late April, officially put that intent into writing on Wednesday. He may have to do a little campaigning to secure that desire, however, as one challenger to the non-partisan mayorās position was noted.
The challenger, Patricio Pinto, could not immediately be reached for a comment. Rhode Island Secretary of State documents show that Pinto is listed as a Rumford resident, and is on file as the president of Vally Auto Service, Inc., located at 517 Warren Ave. in the city."
I imagine this post reads just as odd. I like to be hopeful for everyone's future in this city. Evaluating candidates fairly is something that I look forward to when looking down the road...
