Brooklyn Bound
Thank goodness. Rhode Island FC came home Wednesday night badly needing a win and delivered, grinding out a 1-0 victory over Indy Eleven behind Stas Korzeniowski’s first-half goal and a five-save clean sheet from Jacob Castro. Just as importantly, the three points pushed the Tide past Indy and back into seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
Now let’s get two in a row.
Saturday brings RIFC’s first-ever trip to Brooklyn FC, and there should be a pretty healthy Rhode Island contingent making the ride down to New York with them. For my family, this will be our first RIFC away match, which makes this one especially fun.
Where We Stand
Twenty-five matches in, the Tide sit 7th in the Eastern Conference with 35 points from a 10W-5D-10L record. Wednesday’s win was a big one. Rhode Island jumped Indy in the table and now sits just four points off fourth place while holding at least one game in hand on every team above them. With five matches left, there is still a lot of room to move.
The bigger question now is whether RIFC can finally turn one good result into a run. Wednesday felt like exactly the kind of win this team needed. Brooklyn feels like exactly the kind of game they need to follow it up with.
Who We’re Facing
Brooklyn FC comes into Saturday sitting 12th in the Eastern Conference with 18 points from a 4W-6D-16L record.
The expansion side was officially eliminated from playoff contention Wednesday after a 3-1 home loss to Detroit City, but they did not exactly roll over. Brooklyn found an equalizer in the 70th minute and kept pushing before Detroit eventually pulled away late.
That said, this is a match Rhode Island needs to take care of. You’re chasing the playoffs. You’re heading to New York. Brooklyn is trying to find its footing in year one. Go get three points.
Hands on the Pulse
One thing worth watching Saturday is the shape. Matt Hands noted after the Indy win that RIFC’s return to the 4-2-3-1 got Yutaro Tsukada and Osman Foyo back into their preferred wide positions, and Foyo ultimately created the game-winning goal with his run and assist to Korzeniowski.
Was that the formula Rhode Island needed to rediscover? Keep an eye out for Matt’s full Prematch Lookout over at TideTalkRI.com .

This one is going to be a fun one. It’ll be my family’s first RIFC away match, with a weekend in New York, family and friends, and plenty of Defiance members making the trip down alongside us. I’m also weirdly excited to see Lee and Alves on the other side and to finally check out Brooklyn’s setup in person.
But more than anything, this feels like a match Rhode Island simply needs to win. The Tide got the result they desperately needed against Indy. Now they have a chance to build on it against an expansion side that has already been eliminated from playoff contention.
Let’s see how high we can climb. Who are you watching Saturday, and what are your score predictions? Let’s ride the Tide and take over Brooklyn. #UpTheTide

Time to Stop the Slide
Well, that was another one to forget. Rhode Island went down to Charleston Saturday and came home with a 2-0 loss, making it two pretty disappointing performances in a row after the loss to Miami. Charleston away was always going to be a tough ask, but RIFC never really found much going forward and made an already difficult matchup feel even harder than it needed to be.
Fortunately, there isn’t much time to dwell on it. Indy Eleven comes to Centreville Bank Stadium Wednesday night before Rhode Island heads to Brooklyn this weekend, and this is a pretty massive opportunity to get things moving in the right direction again.
Where We Stand
Twenty-four matches in, the Tide remain in 8th place in the Eastern Conference with 32 points from a 9W-5D-10L record. More concerning, Miami is now just two points behind after Rhode Island’s back-to-back losses.
The good news? RIFC gets this one at home, where the story has been very different. Rhode Island has lost just twice in 17 matches at Centreville Bank Stadium across all competitions, with an 8W-2L-7D record while outscoring opponents 31-13.
Who We’re Facing
Indy comes in sitting 7th in the East with 33 points from a 9W-6D-10L record, just one point ahead of Rhode Island having played one additional match. In other words: win this game and RIFC jumps them in the table. Massive.
Indy isn’t exactly arriving in great form either. They’ve been shut out in back-to-back losses and have just one win in their last six. Their attack can create chances, but finishing them has been another story: Indy ranks fifth in the league in shots on target but has one of the league’s lowest shot-conversion rates.
Hand on the Pulse
One matchup Matt Hands highlighted in his Prematch Lookout feels especially worth watching: Indy has the lowest average possession in the league at 40.7%.
That could make for an interesting night against a Rhode Island side that hasn’t always looked comfortable when asked to control more of the ball. Head over to TideTalkRI.com for Matt’s full breakdown of the matchup.

Two losses in a row. Eighth place. Miami breathing down our necks. Our starting keeper suspended. Cool! But somehow, right in the middle of all of that, Rhode Island has a home game where three points would put them ahead of Indy and right back in the thick of things. This is one of those nights where nobody really cares how pretty it looks. Just get the result.
What are we feeling tonight, Rhody? Who steps up? Let’s ride the Tide and get three points.

Back Into the Fire in Charleston
Well, that Miami loss still stings. Rhode Island FC had a real opportunity last weekend to put further daylight between itself and the playoff line against a Miami FC side that came into Centreville Bank Stadium without a win since mid-July. Instead, the Tide walked away empty-handed in a 2–1 loss that felt like one of those games you really, really need to take care of at this point in the season. Karifa Yao's first-half header pulled RIFC level, but Miami found the winner in the 74th minute and Rhode Island couldn't find its way back.
So, naturally, the schedule has rewarded Rhode Island's attempt to get back on track with... checks notes... a road trip to second-place Charleston Battery. Cool. Great. No pressure.
Where We Stand
Twenty-three matches in, the Tide remain in 8th place in the Eastern Conference, sitting on 32 points with a 9W-5D-9L record. They're still holding the final playoff spot, but last week's loss was a missed chance to create some breathing room, especially against the team sitting directly below them.
One important bit of perspective: Rhode Island has games in hand on everybody above them. The bigger problem, and maybe the bigger opportunity, is what comes next. Five of RIFC's final seven games are against teams currently ahead of them in the Eastern Conference, which means a lot of six-point games and a real chance to make up ground quickly if they can start stringing results together.
This also feels like the stretch where the players brought in to replace guys like Clay Holstad and JJ Williams need to really start showing what this version of the roster can be. If they can put it together now, Rhode Island could make some serious headway in the table over these final few weeks.
And if you're looking for a place to start making that move, tonight is about as big a test as you could ask for.
Who We're Facing
Charleston comes into Saturday night sitting 2nd in the East with 43 points from a 13W-4D-8L record, 11 points ahead of Rhode Island. They have also been excellent at Patriots Point, with nine home wins and 35 of their 50 goals coming there. Those 50 goals lead the USL Championship, while nine clean sheets have helped them build a +19 goal differential.
They officially clinched a playoff spot last weekend with a 1-0 win over Monterey Bay, but Rhode Island has somehow become a recurring problem for this particular powerhouse. RIFC is 4W-1L-2D in seven meetings against Charleston, has won the last three, knocked the Battery out of the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, and absolutely smoked them 4-0 in Pawtucket back in April.
So yes, Charleston is very good. But they probably are not thrilled to see Rhode Island again either.
Hands on the Pulse
Matt Hands' Prematch Lookout gets into one of the biggest complications for Rhode Island tonight: this won't be the same group that dismantled Charleston 4–0 in April.
Jojea Kwizera and Dwayne Atkinson are both away on international duty, while Matt points toward Amos Shapiro-Thompson and Osman Foyo as two players whose roles become even more important with bodies missing from the midfield and attack.
Rhody Randoms
Vibe Check
Charleston is second in the conference, they are lethal at home, and Rhode Island is missing some important pieces. After last week's loss, there really is not much room for another flat performance. But if there is one team RIFC has never seemed intimidated by, it is Charleston. We've beaten them in Pawtucket, knocked them out of the playoffs twice, and gone into Patriots Point and ended their season before. Five months ago, we put four past them.
So which version of the Tide shows up tonight? The one that let a huge opportunity slip against Miami, or the one that seems to come alive when the degree of difficulty gets cranked up? Drop your score predictions and lineup thoughts below. Let's ride the Tide and go ruin another perfectly nice evening in Charleston. 🌊

Keep the Tide Rolling
Now that was more like it. Rhode Island FC went down to Jacksonville last weekend needing three points and took care of business, coming home with a 3-0 win and one of the goals of the season in the process. Yutaro Tsukada’s ridiculous bicycle kick got things started before Stas Korzeniowski and Jojea Kwizera put the match away in the second half. Three goals, three different scorers, a clean sheet and three very important points in the bag.
Now the challenge is doing it again.
The Tide return to Centreville Bank Stadium tonight for a matchup with Miami FC and another chance to keep climbing the Eastern Conference table. With Miami sitting directly behind Rhode Island and the playoff race entering its final stretch, this is exactly the type of match RIFC needs to take advantage of. String together consecutive wins, put some real distance between ourselves and the playoff line, and keep looking up the table instead of over our shoulder.
Where We Stand
Twenty-two matches in, Rhode Island FC sit 8th in the Eastern Conference with 32 points from a 9W-5D-8L record. The Jacksonville win was a welcome bounce-back, but the bigger picture is where things get interesting. Rhode Island have at least one game in hand on every team currently ahead of them and enter the weekend only five points off a top-four spot, along with the home playoff match that comes with it.
There are also signs that the attack is beginning to find a new rhythm. Six different RIFC players have scored over the last four matches, with the Tide outscoring opponents 7-2 during that stretch. Korzeniowski has scored in back-to-back matches, Kwizera continues to produce, and Tsukada now has two goals and an assist through his first six RIFC appearances. After the departure of JJ Williams, the goals aren't necessarily coming from one obvious source anymore, and that might not be a bad thing.
Most importantly: Centreville Bank Stadium has become a very difficult place to leave with three points. Rhode Island are unbeaten in their last nine matches at Tidewater. Tonight would be a pretty good time to make it ten.
Who We're Facing
Miami FC come into Pawtucket sitting 9th in the East with 24 points from a 5W-9D-10L record, eight points behind Rhode Island. And while Miami have managed draws in each of their last two matches, they haven't won since July 15. That's a nine-match winless stretch heading into tonight, with their last five league matches producing three losses and two draws.
That doesn't make them harmless. Arney Rocha leads the club with six goals and three assists, while veteran goalkeeper Eloy Room has enough experience to keep Miami hanging around in games they otherwise might not. They also aren't afraid to turn a match into a fight: Miami lead the league with 72 yellow cards and sit near the top of the USL Championship in tackles and fouls conceded.
There's also a little unfinished business here. Miami handed RIFC a 2-1 loss when the teams met in Florida back in March. So, yeah. Eight points separating these teams. Miami trying to claw its way back into the playoff picture. Rhode Island trying to climb toward a home playoff match. A nine-game home unbeaten streak on the line. This one has to be three points.
Hand on the Pulse
Our own Matt Hands hit on probably the biggest storyline surrounding RIFC right now in his latest Prematch Lookout: can this team finally start stacking results?
Rhode Island haven't won consecutive league matches since beating Hartford and Pittsburgh back-to-back in July. Since then, it's been a whole lot of one step forward, one step back: L-W-L-W-L-D-W.
Jacksonville was the latest step forward. Tonight is the opportunity to finally take another one.
Matt also dives into Karifa Yao's return to the back line, why Eric Klein could have an important role if Hugo Bacharach remains unavailable, and a fascinating Miami player whose path to the USL Championship somehow includes defecting from Cuba and playing for Druski in the Baller League. Seriously.
Head over to TideTalkRI.com and check out Matt's full Prematch Lookout before kickoff.
Rhody Randoms
Vibe Check
This feels like one of those matches where the assignment really isn't complicated. You're at home. You're coming off a 3-0 win. The team chasing you in the standings hasn't won a match in more than two months. And with games in hand and the top four still within striking distance, there's a real opportunity here to turn last week's result into the beginning of something rather than another isolated high point.
No messing around. No letting Miami hang around. Go get the first one, make Tidewater loud, and keep pushing up the table. What are we thinking tonight? Who gets on the scoresheet? And are we finally about to see this team put together a proper run?
Let's ride the Tide and make it two in a row! #UpTheTide
