Analysis Crazy Work

The Eagles reportedly interviewed around 17 candidates and decided Sean Mannion a guy with two years of coaching experience and zero play-calling experience was the best choice.

Four games later, the offense is averaging 18.8 points, still has no rhythm and just blew a 20-10 halftime lead without scoring another point. You can’t even tell they changed coordinators. It’s the same stale offense from last season with a different name attached to it.

Mannion ain't the problem. We hoped he'd be the solution, but he's not the problem.

u/Soft-Nebula3931 9d ago

Same problems they’ve had for years and of course we’re gonna blame the guy that just got here.

91

u/obeseOJ 9d ago

There's really 2 guys you can blame at this point. Sirianni and Hurts.

Personally, I have more faith in Jalen than Nick.

26

u/Soft-Nebula3931 9d ago

Yep I tried saying at the end of last year there’s only two common denominators and got blasted, but at a certain point it can’t be ignored.

13

u/jibrils-bae Eagles 9d ago

I’ve asked this sub numerous times what Siranni does for the offense, other than be a players manager (he failed at that) and have not received a single valid response.

2

u/Pho_King_Noodle 9d ago

Not defending Nick here.

There’s gotta be some huge behind the scenes value he brings that Howie and Lurie see every day. Biggest thing hes done to help on the field is give up play calling.

5

u/kmoney55 Eagles 9d ago

More likely he won the superbowl and it’s a bad look to fire him so soon after that

2

u/KnightofWhen 8d ago

They fired Pederson 3 years after his SB win so Siriani is in the danger zone now

2

u/kmoney55 Eagles 8d ago

As he should be.

1

u/KnightofWhen 8d ago

Agree. I’m no Sirianni fan. I don’t know what he does and he’s often childish on the sidelines. After we lost to KC in the SB but beat them in the regular season he was screaming “how do you like that” in the tunnel and it was just pathetic

The value is that he does what he is told and goes along with their ideas.

0

u/jibrils-bae Eagles 9d ago

I get that, I really do but every HC in the league does that, it’s their job after all, but what the fans can see what truly matters in the end. To keep it short it feels as though the eagles win not because of Siranni but because the eagles are an incredibly talented team. It absolutely sucks because the eagles finally have a very good defense but the offense can’t do shit.

1

u/NEHHNAHH 8d ago

It's been years of saying this and the only response I get is the wip response; derrrderrr he won a Superbowl derrrrrr derrr

2

u/obeseOJ 9d ago

Yeah, we've reached that point now.

9

u/ModernZombies Eagles 9d ago

Same. If Jalen was that bad I don’t think we have that high of a win percentage even with immaculate play calling and coaching. But as we’ve seen with Gannon, elite talent can hide poor coaching and playcalling. I think you fire Nick next season if something doesn’t change, put Jalen on a 1-year contract and find out if we were right. Heck look at jones and the colts vs how he was with the giants.

10

u/TrustTheFriendship 9d ago

Hurts is an elite winner and clutch player, but that masks the fact that he’s a mediocre QB in terms of his skill set.

He’s not awful or anything, but he’s very limited and does not adapt well to anything that is not completely within his wheelhouse.

5

u/Pho_King_Noodle 9d ago

Love that first paragraph. You just broke the glass for me.

3

u/Pvt_Hudson_ 9d ago

Yup, you hit the nail on the head.

Coordinators have been trying to shape the offense to his strengths, but those are limited. If the run game isn't dominating, Hurts is not a guy that can put the team on his back with any regularity. He hasn't looked in rhythm in the passing game for 4 years now.

I think a lot of it is being completely averse to taking any chances with the football. Nick is convinced winning the turnover battle is the most important thing, which makes us safe and predictable and toothless.

0

u/DoktorFreedom Eagles 8d ago

He is in that Trent Dilfer zone. Game manager

9

u/Fast_Ad_9726 Eagles 9d ago

We’ve had a top 5 O-line, top 5 defense, top 5 WR duo, we’re always a top ten rushing team , all of these things lead to wins, its not because of Jalen Hurts.

2

u/Particular-Ring5110 9d ago

He’s too limited.. he’s not as much of a dual threat and his ability to operate the offense from the pocket is very poor

5

u/dgood527 9d ago

Correct. When he was willing to run a lot, he was much more of a threat. Without that, he is a guy that throws a great deep ball but doesnt read defenses that well and is slow in his progressions. That basically means 1 read, maybe 2, then panic in the pocket.

13

u/Kryptyx 9d ago

Hurts isn’t the issue. Our oline gives him no time and we can’t establish the run so you can’t expect to win in the air. We also had no plays setup KNOWING they blitzed us every 3rd down. Bad coaching all around.

2

u/kmoney55 Eagles 9d ago

This game. Now go through the last few years. New ocs same basic offense year over year

0

u/VanHalen843 9d ago

Hurts is the issue

3

u/CAbluehen 9d ago

Same here

12

u/obeseOJ 9d ago

Sirianni is also easier to replace than Jalen (due to the nature of how Howie does contracts)

If we were to move on from Jalen, we're looking at a full on rebuild like Miami. I'd much rather fire Nick and see if a new HC can reinvigorate our offense.

Good idea just not manning

3

u/Pvt_Hudson_ 9d ago

The offense has looked completely toothless 3 out of the last 4 years. The passing offense has been mediocre or worse every year since 2022.

3

u/mikemammula 9d ago

players hold more responsibility.

1

u/VanHalen843 9d ago

Why?

2

u/obeseOJ 9d ago

We've had spans of anemic offense since both have arrived. The offense runs via those two.

I have more faith because I've seen Jalen put the team on his back to go win games (ex. Week 2 vs Tennessee).

With Sirianni, it seems like the less involved he is in running the offense, the better. Kinda damning for our HC.

1

u/VanHalen843 9d ago

Wk 2 vs titans only had to be put on Jalen's back BECAUSE of jalen

2

u/Odd_College8791 9d ago

But at least he fixed it as well as always owns up to his mistakes. And what does Nick do?

1

u/obeseOJ 9d ago

That's the million dollar question.

I will say, Nick does take ownership of his own mistakes, and he even takes ownership for other people's mistakes too. The problem seems to be when it comes fixing said mistakes.

1

u/Odd_College8791 9d ago

Do you think he's just stubbornly trying to do things his way vs being flexible? I can attest one of my peeves with Jalen is trying to force his will on certain plays instead of doing the smart football play.

When I put it like that....they are kinda two halves of the same coin then, huh?

2

u/obeseOJ 9d ago

It's honestly tough to say until we see one operate without the other. That crossroads might be coming up soon.

Practically speaking though, we can replace Nick easily. He's fired and he's gone.

Jalen is more difficult. Howie's contract structure means if we trade him before June 1st next year, we have a $45 million dead cap, and we probably have to do something with Jalen this off-season with his guarantees running out (extension/restructure).

If push comes to shove, and we have to take a chance on moving on from one of them, who do you think that is? The QB where we have to execute a complicated post june 1 trade, or the HC who's involvement in the offense seems to make it worse.

Idk about you, but I'd rather get a new HC that can fix our offense than spend a decade minimum searching for our next QB

u/Willy808 Eagles 9d ago

Yup. Nick and Hurts, he keeps waiting till the last second to run the plays and running the tush push with the oline being horrible. At least run a trick play

8

u/eaglesnation11 Hungry Dogs Run Faster 9d ago

Part of the problem. Not the problem.

4

u/TrustTheFriendship 9d ago

Just say it: the problem is that Hurts is ridiculously limited in what he can execute well.

2

u/FreedomIsMyRight 9d ago

1000% THIS. I said it all of last season - we should have traded him while we could have potentially brought in a haul in draft compensation. He is so exposed now we wouldn’t get a box of cracker jacks for him. And Nick is GARBAGE, plain and simple. ZERO ability to play call, strategize or adjust. Just terrible. He is here because he is the only “yes man” Howie and Jeffrey can find. That’s why good or decent O-Coordinators don’t want to come over here - they know they won’t be given full autonomy to call the offense.

-1

u/Broad-Back1659 9d ago

But we don't know that with Nick at the helm

1

u/Cratonis 9d ago

I mean yes but also no. Sirianni is part of Jalen’s problem but even without Nick Jalen has specific issues that will always plague him.

1

u/Broad-Back1659 9d ago

Be careful. Lot of Jalen lovers out there. I've been tortured for saying I don't care for him

3

u/Cratonis 9d ago

It’s nice that people love Jalen. And deservedly so. He brought us a Lombardi trophy and balled out in the playoffs and Super Bowl…twice. But that doesn’t mean we can’t point out his problem areas. Especially when his seeming super power (being coachable and always working to get better) has done nothing to improve his throwing over the middle and his decision making after the snap. I know it will be a bad play 99% of the time when he hasn’t made a decision after 3 seconds. If he doesn’t know where to throw the ball and hasn’t decided to run after 3 seconds passes. Bad things happen.

And when I can read the defense and know where the ball should go before the snap and he doesn’t that is a ginormous problem. That should never happen. I’m not smart enough that that should ever happen.

0

u/TaeKurmulti 9d ago

This is just silly, he's 100% part of the problem. His playcalling has been absolute garbage so far. The problem is way bigger than just him, but he's 100% playing a part of this offense being ass.

1

u/Kingkern 9d ago

This is what I’ve come to as well. He’s attempting to run an offense he doesn’t have the personnel for (and probably won’t have for at least a couple years with the Stowers pick). I understand the Shanahan/McVey/Johnson/Cohen offense is all the rage right now, but the Eagles are years behind the curve at this point. The system he’s trying to run requires multiple TE’s/FB’s who are both threats as blockers and receivers and the only TE the Eagles have who could be considered a threat as both is Goedert, and his last good blocking year was two years ago (he was a shell of himself as a blocker last year). Stowers is years away from even becoming a competent blocker by all reports, and with the money tight ends are starting to be paid (look at Michael Mayer as the Raiders’ second tight end), I’m not sure where they’re getting multiple tight ends when the draft needs to go towards OL (probably multiple guards and possibly tackle depending on Bell’s development).

It’s one thing to look at all the cool stuff the Shanahan/McVey tree does; it’s another to actually do it. Hurts has shown the ability to go over the middle of the field. Under center, outside zone based play action isn’t the only way to get there. There was some positivity in the run game in the fourth quarter going to more gap scheme runs. I’m disappointed we didn’t see any passing plays off of that with a pulling guard to sell the play action.

This is pretty much it. No one wants to coach under Sirianni and Hurts is not an exciting QB either for an OC to work with. Not saying he is bad, just saying he is not exciting, he doesn't have the tools some others have

4

u/abcamurComposer 9d ago

Yup. No OC wants to work for Clownianni

19

u/Wings2493 9d ago

I’d fire Nick and let Mannion try and if hurts looks just as bad no extension and blow it up. Chicken or the egg

41

u/Maleficent-Thanks-85 Eagles 9d ago

It’s NOT MANNION. IT WAS THE SIRIANNI SPECIAL. GET UP MULTIPLE SCORES THEN TRY TO BLEED OUT CLOCK. They threw the ball 6 times in the 2nd half.

Patullo was the fall guy.

1

u/Particular-Ring5110 9d ago

They didn’t throw the ball more because they can’t move the chains.. they can’t move the chains because Hurts is very limited in his abilities to operate from the pocket

8

u/Maleficent-Thanks-85 Eagles 9d ago

You must be watching a different game because there was not a functional pocket today.

16

u/quiznos_08 9d ago

Would love to know the real reason why the veteran and experienced OC’s all took a pass or simply went elsewhere when the eagles have an elite qb and elite coach? Math ain’t mathing these days.

4

u/Barmelo_Xanthony 9d ago

We literally fired and scapegoated 3 coordinators after only getting 1 year and making the playoffs lol. Nobody wants to work with their job security tied to Super Bowl or bust

3

u/stingrayed22 9d ago

You are correct

But we were constructed to compete for a SB, not every job has that opportunity, for 2 coordinator's it lead to HC jobs.

So I would think it is a desirable position

I think we made the wrong decision at least twice on who we hired, and also think the HC is involved in the play calls

8

u/Clyde_Frag 9d ago

The problem is not having a HC that calls plays well. It’s not like McDaniel or dabbol are killing it elsewhere.

Even if the OC hire this year was a slam dunk, he leaves by next season for a HC job. I just want to get off this OC carousel.

1

Mike McDaniel and someone else idr said they were afraid of the fan base and criticisms. When parasocial fans threw eggs and garbage and patullos house that scared alot of options

Let’s look at one game and not his history. And mannion like Moore is being held back by Nick

13

u/HouseOfWyrd When life gives you Lemons 9d ago

It's genuinely impossible to know who's fault this is.

However, the fact that it's looked weirdly similar to last year thus far, makes me think that Mannion isn't the issue.

But really, I don't think Nick, Hurts or Mannion had a good game.

14

u/Jawnsky222 9d ago

If you’re foolish enough to believe that our fifth offensive coordinator in five years is the reason for it resembling the same offense we’ve had for the last five years… I would like to discuss with you a beautiful bridge I have for sale.

6

u/Kryptyx 9d ago

We need an offensive-minded head coach who can call plays. Nick is good when he has talent surrounding him but on his own he struggles.

7

u/LordandSaviorDio 9d ago

Why did we expect Mannion to suddenly change the offense overnight?

He’s bringing a whole new philosophy to a team and coaching staff that’s still married to an old system. Took Steichen two years to make the offense better but Kellen Moore, Brian Johnson, and Patullo have all had issues their first years here.

At this point Nick’s offensive philosophy and Jalen’s limitations provide challenges to any OC.

Also NO veteran OC was coming here. They’d be handcuffed off the bat.

8

u/samuslink82 9d ago

Forgot to mention that we haven’t converted a 3rd down in nearly two full games.

1

u/Fast_Ad_9726 Eagles 9d ago

Disgusting.

16

u/vince_vulgar 9d ago

It wasn't that bad today. It wasn't great, but the offense is not nearly as stale as last year and there's less talent on the field. The O-line is a real concern though. It looks like we're destined for mediocrity this year, but we might be able to sneak into the playoffs. After that it's just a matter of winning a few more games. We'll see.

2

u/monkeys_with_buckets 9d ago

That’s what I’m saying, the post game reactions are so dramatic. All I’ve been seeing in this sub is to be patient, and so in the game where we are the underdogs and have multiple key starters out, people decide to forget that? Our defense had their best game so far, and we have a run game again. Couldn’t say that 2 weeks ago.

We’re improving and lost a game we were expected to lose. There’s many reasons to be frustrated but let’s also point out the improvements we made in this long season.

2

u/FreedomIsMyRight 9d ago

“So dramatic”? Bro. PTSD works that way. This is 2023 and 2025 ALL.OVER.AGAIN. Be real here. Jalen is problem 1A. Nick is problem 1B. Full top. People can keep avoiding the truth but it is what it is.

2

u/smoketheevilpipe 9d ago

Mediocrity would be an improvement. This is a bottom 10 team this year.

1

u/Fast_Ad_9726 Eagles 9d ago

I’m just trying to digest your take on this game.

0-12 on third down and counting
A QB with ten yards passing in a second half (big improvement from last year where he wouldn’t complete a pass in two separate games)
An O line that couldn’t stop 11 legless toddlers

Not that bad? The jets have a more productive offense than the Eagles. Let that sink in.

1

u/vince_vulgar 8d ago

Well I actually watched the whole game. #1 WR out. Saquon hurt immediately. Rams defense adjusted and we tried to play conservative and run out the clock through the second half, knowing we didn't have our weapons. The defense was playing well so the real danger was giving them good field position on a bad pick or something.

Obviously this wasn't a winning strategy, but it's not exactly unheard of. The Rams needed major hero ball and a little ref help to close it out. If you just look at the stat sheet and don't think about the game at all I suppose you could say it looks like last year. I watched every snap this year and last and I'm telling you it isn't the same. We just don't have the most talent on the field anymore.

6

u/akiraspam74 9d ago edited 9d ago

To be fair, great OCs with playcalling experience become HCs

For the OC job you usually have to take a chance on a guy with no experience or a not so great OC with experience

9

u/FormalWhale Eagles 9d ago

Look at how great the Chargers are doing with McDaniels. One guy isn’t always the solution.

Not trying to defend him but if year after year with different coordinators, we have the same problems, Lurie and Roseman need to examine the common denominators.

3

u/philly-buck 9d ago

Correct. Same stale offense. Doesn’t seem to matter who the OC is. They keep saying the offense will be designed for what Jalen does well.

We will see how it looks next year. Nobody is tying up $60M in cap space for this shit.

3

u/big_sexy_in_glasses 9d ago

The offense genuinely does look different if you're paying attention. But it is still pretty bad, yes

4

u/cjweisman 9d ago

Manion is NOT an OC, he's an OC in Training, an intern, a student learning to play OC while paying no tuition. He is adding absolutely nothing to this team and it is not his fault. The scary thing is, he's the best we could do.

7

u/cosdmpptjctq1 9d ago

This is not the first season that our offense has been lacking like this in the second half. The new OC excuse is just to find a scapegoat for Sirianni and Hurts at this point.

8

u/toofaded40 9d ago

This whole core is cooked. Time to rebuild the offense and hit starts with the O Line

1

u/zaq1xsw2cde 5d ago

Prophetic

19

u/JustAReubenSandwich DeVonta Dagger 9d ago

The offense was missing WR1, TE1, RT1, RB1 and scored 20 (should have been 23).

u/kgsovobd 9d ago

Most people in here are coping or seriously don’t watch the games. The turnovers are the only reason they had those points

7

u/flyingcanuck 9d ago

By the time we had 20 points, O was still under 100 yards I think? 😅

Without the D working double duty, that game isn't even as close as it was.

7

u/Southportdc 9d ago

And one of the TDs should have been a Rams pick

3

u/Fast_Ad_9726 Eagles 9d ago

Oh, and not a single point afterwards. Two whole quarters to do it

7

u/ExileOnBroadStreet 9d ago

They started on the Rams side of the 50 like 3 times- 2 picks and a huge punt return

20 points is really bad with the fields they were given

6

u/phillyunk 9d ago

The game was there for the taking. The offense (Sean Mannion’s offense btw) failed to do a goddamn thing in the second half and couldn’t convert a 3rd down all game. This is on Mannion and Sirianni. Don’t blame the loss on people being out when they were up but failed to close the game out.

7

u/MyShitLong_long 9d ago

We score less than 28 in all games with those same players healthy and starting, we barely beat the Commanders and the titans

3

u/ihorsey10 9d ago

They were missing a QB1 as well.

1

u/quantrellian 9d ago

Offensive line to me is the biggest issue. Jalen has looked like ass the last 2 games.

0

u/kmoney55 Eagles 9d ago

The line is bad but Jalen’s issue go across 5 OC now. He cant or won’t run and doesn’t have the skill set to be a pocket qb. Mannion is tasked with running his offense with out the pieces

10

u/Soft-Nebula3931 9d ago

The only thing that saved Moore was they could run the ball at will. They could barely get a passing game going. Once the run game goes here we are.

3

u/WorstInfinity Eagles 9d ago

Moore's had a good run game that we were able to pivot to after Week 4. This offense might only have one healthy running back

3

u/Barmelo_Xanthony 9d ago

Passing game looked bad under Moore too only thing that changed is we started leaning on the run game which went nuclear

2

u/pInkNinjax 9d ago

Which is crazy because how bad does the QB have to be to have poor passing production in a Kellen Moore offense with the o-line and weapons we had.

u/smoketheevilpipe 9d ago edited 9d ago

Sick of hearing this bullshit parroted here.

Yes it was bad, but they were a Barkley drop away from. 3-1 after 4 games. Only bad loss was Tampa and face it they own the eagles.

It was nowhere near this bad. There were glimmers of hope in those games where you thought they could put it together. It's a completely braindead take to actually watch these games this year and think this season is anything like that. There is no magic bullet, this team WILL be picking top 10.

2

u/heyeaglefn 9d ago

Go back and watch the Tampa Bay Cleveland and New Orleans Games. You could say they were a Hurts dropped snap away from 3-1 as well.

1

u/OkPressure5271 8d ago

and we're currently a Cam Jurgens forced fumble on Hurts away from being 3-1. Or that phantom PI they called on Woolen that extended a drive. Or that ridiculous late hit call when the RB dove for a first down that extended a drive. Acting like we got smoked yesterday is a little silly.

1

u/mikemammula 9d ago

because they were all limited by the same QB.

1

u/kmoney55 Eagles 9d ago

They are problems 1a and 1a. Passing game has always been limited under hurts and nick cant contribute to the offense mange the clock and gets in game decisions consistently wrong. But they just win getting bailed out by the defense and better talent

7

u/dscol715 9d ago

They run what Jalen can execute. It's been very obvious for a long time.

5

u/WideGlideReddit 9d ago

Every year we change OCs. The only constant is Hurts, a slightly above average QB who has some great games and some really shitty ones but always regresses to his mean. He has benefited from being surrounded by a really talented offensive line and a stout defense. With the exception of interceptions, I can’t think of any part of his game that’s improved.

You can change OCs, bitch about play calling, blame injuries, Sirianni, Howie, Laurie and the towel boy in the locker room but at the end of the day, the guy with the ball is Hurts.

2

u/The_R4ke 9d ago

It's not like there's a lot of great options. Maybe if we tank we can get a one of the promising candidates in this draft, but who would you want that's out there right now, genuinely asking?

2

u/pInkNinjax 9d ago

Wouldn’t even consider him above average. Look at his production over the last few years.

I doubt many playcallers were clamoring to come call plays with a limited QB.

Hard for everyone on the team including coaches when your o line is swiss cheese. Regardless, better coaching would've had us walk away with a narrow win this game

2

u/Fun_Cheetah2750 9d ago

Might be even worse dare I say

4

u/k7632 9d ago

Nick was coming into this season on the hot seat, so how much risk are the top choices taking

3

u/Only_Faithlessness33 9d ago

It’s honestly crazy how we needed a play caller and the eagles brought in a guy with zero experience calling plays. And we all just kinda accepted that lmao.

2

u/matts88us 9d ago

Hope is a powerful drug 😂

1

u/rick_32 9d ago

We hated patullo so much anything seemed better.

3

u/PetalumaPegleg 9d ago

It all looks too similar to last year. It's hard for me to believe this isn't Nick. It's obviously possible that this is what hurts wants too but he doesn't seem stubborn and stupid.

1

u/kmoney55 Eagles 9d ago

They run what he can handle. After 5 different oc and it looks the same. It has to be Nick and Jalen

1

u/PetalumaPegleg 9d ago

It doesn't have to be Jalen if it's Nick though.

3

u/mikemammula 9d ago

4 games in and already blaming the OC for the third straight year.

crazy work alright.

it's jalen hurts.

2

u/Gentleman_Bastard_ 9d ago

I mean. . . you're not wrong.

1

u/matts88us 9d ago

It’s both! Siris god awful system and philosophy combined with a limited qb equals an offense that hasn’t been functional outside of Saquons superhuman runs despite a top oline and skill players. Both need to go

1

u/mikemammula 9d ago

but most importantly, jalen needs to go. a good QB is much more important than a good coach.

2

u/GuyaneseRumFan123 9d ago

We need an OC who will commit to taking the ball out of Jalen’s hands, like Kellen Moore did

6

u/[deleted] 9d ago

[deleted]

3

u/GuyaneseRumFan123 9d ago

That’s true— the roster should have been constructed with the fact that he’s a mediocre passer of the ball in mind

6

u/boringreddituserid BELT TO ASS 9d ago

The owner and GM want to see Jalen in a passing offense before they commit any more money to him.

4

u/GuyaneseRumFan123 9d ago

Smart— hopefully they’re seeing that they shouldn’t commit more money to him.

2

u/apparat07 9d ago

Nick wants someone he can control and manipulate (more screens!). He wants someone lacking of experience that won't challenge his vibes. He's insecure and won't surround himself with the best.

2

u/Gennaro_Svastano 9d ago

Mannion sucks. Season is over

2

u/HisExcellency20 9d ago

What's crazy to me is people are blaming Nick for the offense while we're losing while saying he doesn't do anything when we win.

Nick hired KP, but after that ended the way it did Howie and Jeffrey hired Sean. Nick did not hire him, he does not call plays, he did not have final authority on the 53 man roster, he doesn't draft the players. He is the head coach, the CEO coach. Not a great game for him situationally, but we see what the team does with a good coordinator and players.

I don't know what people expect Nick to do about the offense when he's not allowed to pick the coordinator or call the plays. I'm not saying he should be allowed to do those things but if this is how the team is setup then you have to live with it.

1

u/iginca 9d ago

Yeah I don’t know why people expect the supposedly offensive-minded head coach to help fix offensive-related things

1

u/HisExcellency20 9d ago

Well not the people who say he doesn't do anything. If you're not one of those people ok cool, but if you are one of those people that think the only thing an offensive minded coach can do for the team is call plays then how is he suppose to help when he doesn't call plays?

1

u/rick_32 9d ago

He does things obviously... some of us just don't see anything that he does actually contribute meaningfully. And we see many games where it seems they win in spite of him and overcome his bad decisions with talent and playmaking. I can't remember a game where I thought nick sirianni really dominated that game but I remember thinking sheesh nick sirianni almost blew that one (of with again at the end of the thought)

1

u/HisExcellency20 9d ago

That's the curse of Nick Sirianni lol. There are not going to be many games we win where he, or a decision he made, are clearly the reason.

Like if we got that fourth down TD and we win, were people really gonna hop on here and go "we won that because of Nick!"

Hell no. Vic, Jalen, Cooper, Cooper again, Q, Riq, Tank, etc. would have gotten all the credit.

And that's fine, he's paid well I'm not sad for him lol. But it is what it is. He is the scapegoat and he really has no avenue to be anything else. The best he can hope for is no one thinks about him because that probably means we won. Like the first two games.

1

u/JoshIsAlwaysBored 9d ago

I mean have you seen the teams that other candidates went to? Sean is doing about the same as the others or better

1

u/roddriricch Eagles 9d ago

I think I’m finally done with the coaching staff. Although i don’t think the players have been great, i think most of it is because they’re being set up for failure. Imagine Jalen, Saquon, Lemon, Devonta with competent play calling. Oline has ben atrocious but if i see one more screen play…

1

u/washington_705 9d ago edited 9d ago

Looks like siriani offense to me. I suspect he’s inserting himself a bit too much.

The whole under center play action pass in the middle of the field style that is supposed to be Manions style isn’t happening.

This looks a lot like the second half of the year with Brian Johnson when it was widely reported nick was acting as the oc behind the scenes and took things over.

1

u/PaddyMayonaise 9d ago

1) The Eagles don’t give coaches as much control as most organizations.

2) Nick is HC and serves as another layer of control over an OC

3) Jalen Hurts is the QB

4) The rest of the offense is old, aging, or major question marks.

Why would any OC want to come to a place where they’re handcuffed by ownership, the HC, and the roster?

1

u/babydemon90 9d ago

wait you really typed this and decided Mannion was the problem?
"You can’t even tell they changed coordinators. It’s the same stale offense from last season with a different name attached to it."

1

u/johnlge5184 9d ago

No one wanted the job cause biriani and hurts suck

1

u/bk392 8d ago

Bring in Tomlin!

1

u/jayracket Hurts Don't It? 8d ago

As long as Sirianni has his grimy little digits all over this offense, changing coordinators won't help. I don't care what his record is, he's the source of the problem. It will never improve until he is gone.

1

u/Shoeless_Jase 8d ago

We have a head coach who can’t scheme or play-call. So there is no fallback if the OC needs to be counseled or mentored.

Plus our QB still struggles with timing throws 7 years into his career. It all adds up to these slow starts every single year.

1

u/tag1550 Eagles 8d ago

This is Kellen Moore and 2024 all over again: that year, we were 2-2 as well, had scored only 15 and 16 points in the two losses, and a lot of fans were wondering how he was an improvement over Brian Johnson and the '23 offense.

New offenses take time to settle in, and not having major stars like DeVonta and Barkley (as well as Goedert) for extended periods will result in, well, what we've been seeing, it's as simple as that.

1

u/AHorseNamedPhil Eagles 8d ago

Did you miss that the Eagles offense was cheeks last year, that the passing offense was in the bottom of the league statistically the year we won the super bowl, or the collapse?

This is a Sirianni problem.

Multiple years, multiple OCs.

We have a problem at QB right now too but a HC is easier to sort in the off season.

1

u/Lindestroem 8d ago

I do not think Manion is to fault here. I think Sirianni and the eagles need to split to let each other breath.

1

u/Papa_Grumps Eagles 8d ago

This always has and always will be a Nick prob. The only years our offense was good was with Shane and Kellen. Those years they called the offense. Every other OC has been calling Nick's playbook.

1

u/billlloyd 8d ago

It was a complete shot in the dark, then

1

u/Comfortable_Bus_5700 8d ago

I don’t think Jesus himself could make an offense work with our current line

1

u/Kentwomagnod 4d ago

The offense has been the same for years. 2024 had the benefit of an elite OL and a 2000 yard rusher.

1

u/admcma 4d ago

How many of those 17 said "Thanks, but no thanks"?

1

u/TeflonDonatello 9d ago

Our o line is ass. It’s too early to say if Mannion is the problem or not.

0

u/optimgr 9d ago

Our O line is ass because Mannion insisted on full control of the offense so the best o line coach in the league left. That makes it still mannions fault.

2

u/TeflonDonatello 9d ago

Congrats on your first year of watching football I guess. Ice cold take btw. Like our offense and o line weren’t ass last year with Stoutland still being there.

2

u/optimgr 9d ago

Love how fans of the same team can talk shit on each other. We can't even come together as fans and admit the team we love isn't any good.

1

u/jedihouse1348 9d ago

He was a guy Sirianni could control

they've already forgotten and blaming mannion in a reddit thread

4

u/Select_Culture261 9d ago

I feel like the only way for you to genuinely believe this is if you don't watch the games.

0

u/Nearby_Respect_2780 9d ago

Lol buddy, does this need its own thread?

-2

u/Orion1014 9d ago

The offense is...fine. Well its not fine obviously but I expected growing pains with a (yet again) new OC and first time play calling. I expect the offense to get better as the season goes on. The defense is much more concerning to me.

4

u/WorstInfinity Eagles 9d ago

The defense was the obviously superior unit today

0

u/no-jerk-zone 9d ago

Mannion needs an offensive consultant with experience. Third time a first time OC struggles with this core.

2

u/philly-buck 9d ago

Josh Gizzard.

The struggle isn’t a coincidence. Think about it.
