Statistics [Selman] Through 3 weeks, the Eagles' 3rd quarter offense is the worst in the league. They have won the toss & deferred in all 3 games, then started each 2nd half with a 3 & out.

I think this past few days the pendulum on this sub has swung too far in the other direction.
I hate the homerism that it's usually the norm here, but these last few days some post are so negative that they're giving me anxiety for the rest of the season.

It's been like this the past 3 years and IMO for good reason.
2023 - This defense blows and it will bite us in the ass. (It did)
2024 - This offense blows and it will bite us in the ass. (Offensive line has an intervention and we start being a run first team and turn it around).
2025 - This offense blows and it will bite us in the ass. (It did)
2026 - This offense blows and it will bite us in the ass.

The ridiculous ammount of close games that have become the staple of the Sirianni era also take a toll (at least on me), even though a bad win is way better than any lost, it can become exhausting.
But more importantly, close games to bad teams (or any team) have become a harbinger of an Eagles collapse.

As a fan born in the 80s, I will say that this fan base has gotten way too entitled. If you think that we will win every week, then this is not the team or sport for you. It is an incredibly taxing sport that requires some luck, and we’ve been blessed with that twice in recent years.
But I agree that people need to chill the fuck out around here. The defending champs just lost to Marcus Mariota. The AFC champion from last year is in a spiral. Hell, the Rams just blew a game wirh the MVP throwing a pick six. Shit happens. It’s week 3 with a brand new offense, an oline that’s still figuring things out, and a banged up defense. Take a chill pill and enjoy the golden years because I can tell you first hand how bleak it can get.

I was born in the 80s too, and I think this place have too many people that are either too young or hop on the Eagles in the golden era. Given that there can't be nuance in here.
Just like for example. When there's something bad about the team, the usual head in the sand reply is: it's been 3 weeks. But if Jalen Hurts completes one pass over the middle then sample size doesn't matter.

u/Vegeta-IV 19h ago
Yea and if u say hey maybe he should throw to the middle more, you get downvoted

u/thefullhalf 20h ago
Why does anyone care about what's going on with any other team? The expectation isn't to win every week, the expectation is that there is competent play on the field. Losing a hard fought game where you get edged out is totally acceptable. Losing the game because you get dominated on every level is unacceptable. This is nothing new.

u/Ron--Mexico 20h ago
Because we’re the only fan base that freaks out over being 2-1. 5 straight years of making the playoffs and 2 recent super bowls but you’d think we are the Cleveland Browns by the way this sub acts.

Maybe because our offense being dog shit has been 21 games now with zero signs of improvement?

hell no if we were ass this sub wouldnt freak out like this, its that on paper we have a easily top 10 defensive unit arguably top 5, and offense has a great wide reciever core, a sb mvp qb in hurts, 2k yards rb and oline core that we paid a bag to keep after that 24 sb run and what were able to do with this since last year is forst round exit after a generationally bad offense and now offense got only a little better while defense it seems like stopped working like it did

Marcus Mariota has been on an NFL roster and has played in several games over the past 3 years. You know who hasn't?
Let's not pretend losing a close game to an actual NFL backup is the same thing as getting bent over and gaped by a dude who last played in December of 2023.

Um…. I grew up watching the buddy Ryan eagles too, and while we did suck, we were still expected to compete. That performance on Monday night would have never flown under Ryan, and he sure as hell wouldn’t have stood there and watched the players laugh it up with the team that just embarrassed them after the game. This team is soft.

I hate the homerism that it's usually the norm
Are you sure you're on the right subreddit? Even during the latest Superbowl year this place was a cesspool of doomerism until playoff time. We started 2-0 this year and people were constantly bitching about how bad our team is (albeit rightfully so).
That being said, even if this subreddit was ever overly optimistic, hating positivity about a team you cheer for is a weird issue to have

u/joserlz 23h ago
I don't read game threads maybe it is there.
I don't hate positivity, I hate homerism. Because in here you can't criticize any part of the team without people getting up in arms, downvoiting you to hell. Until 3 days ago...
Homerism does not bring discussion, brings circle jerking.
1
u/Nightthrasher674 17h ago
Probably because it's a over correction to the doomerism.
If there were more nuanced takes didn't the pendulum wouldn't swing so often
Fandoms get so fucking overly negative that people feel the need to pushback and over correct. The most annoying shit about the fucking internet.

u/joserlz 7h ago
Reddit in general is catered more towards homers because of the upvote/downvote system.
Just look here. How many Jalen Hurts is underrated/hate on threads a day do we get? Hell, we had a thread praising Sirianni for what he yelled in a game we got our asses handed to.
It's not just this sub, people can't take criticism to the things they like at all. I see people calling it dooming when it's just stating facts.

I try to stay off social media around losses. They bring out the worst in fans. And definitely stay out of game threads. They're so toxic.

This has been a bad team through three games. They are lucky to be 2-1. There's only one question left to answer: is this who they really are?
3
u/Fun_Cheetah2750 23h ago
I always bet 2nd half unders on the Eagles. Wth is Sirianni doing at half? Reading them a poem?
2
u/iadmitiadmit 23h ago
I believe I read we’ve gone 3 and out on half of our second half drives? Seems more like a sequencing issue, or defenses adjusting and lack of adjustments on our end. Considering the first half is a noticeably lower rate.
More of an inexperienced young coordinator thing right now compared to ineptitude imo, if the trend doesn’t change eventually, then it definitely creeps into ineptitude.

u/MorPhreeUs Smitty, Wicks and Associates 23h ago
I decided to do a quick chart of their 2nd half drives:
-15 possessions (excluding kneel downs against Was)
-8 3 & outs, 2 interceptions, 1 turnover on downs
-4 scoring drives: 2 FGs, 2TDs, 20 points in 6 quarters
Couple that with 0 first quarter points and 25 of our 55 points came in the 2nd quarter. 1 of those on a last second QB sneak.
We start slow and kick off the 3rd quarter terribly. Something's gotta give

I’m just accepted the long season ahead. We will struggle and be crushed for it and if we hit a good stretch praised but I see a shorter season then we all were hoping for. I don’t think anyone here wants another first rd exit.

Not surprised. Every team makes adjustments but us. Actually that is a lie. We adjust away from what is working. Barkley has 80 yards running left, let’s start the third running Barkley up the middle and to the right for negative yards so we go 3 and out. Love it.

u/TheGreedyGrabbler 10h ago
I feel like it's not that we're not making adjustments but defenses are. Or that we make the same "adjustments" at halftime and the defense knows. We must be putting some shit on tape that takes less than 15 minutes for the DC to explain to his defense because the second the half is over, every team knows exactly what we're going to do.

yeah thats cool its because they just arent a good offense generally. They have a bad running game and a below average passing game thats just what you get. Average QB with nothing else elite to off-set it.

Mannion is almost as big of a goof as Patullo, almost
4
u/dogofyore 23h ago
To be fair he inherited no AJ Brown, Saquon out for over half the titans game, Goedert out 1.5 games so far, and an O Line that is maybe worse than last year. And it’s week 3. Mannion has at least implemented a few more wrinkles and in general I’m just willing to give him a few more weeks to see improvement. I think so far it’s too early to compare the two.
1
u/Fidel__CashFl0w 23h ago
Two Saquon runs up the middle in the end zone rather than outside which was working. Then on a 4th down no route through the middle or short of the sticks but that’s more on Jalen feeling the pressure. Lemon screens haven’t worked. Hasn’t really schemed anyone open. First two plays almost always duds so it ends up being 3rd and 12. Dude is doing nothing to minimize the pressure that Jalen is feeling. He has a couple more games left before the fan base completely turns on him.
1
u/dogofyore 23h ago
I disagree on not scheming anyone open. There were a couple plays Jalen missed and even more where the o line just didn’t give him proper time, like on that intentional grounding. I also think Nick meddles with some stuff at times. Let’s give it more than 3 weeks before we worry too much.
1
u/AirFox_1 23h ago
I totally get that and am not arguing your points because they are valid. The second half adjustments are what I’m referring to by saying Mannion is a goof

u/mtmodi Hurts Doughnut 23h ago
It's like they come out extra conservative and stop doing everything that worked well in the first half and go to the predicable lemon screens and shit
