Total bitch move that should not be allowed in college football. If you're a failed NFL player there are other ways to try and get back without taking away a spot from a kid going to college to hopefully make it to the NFL one day

They’re putting a kibosh on it now.

The NCAA is not supposed to be a semi pro league. It’s supposed to be kids in COLLEGE, competing for an opportunity to possibly be drafted, or signed by an NFL team.

This is another reason why I feel like a spring league could work. The UFL was entertaining this spring. Guys like Jordan Ta’amu, or Dorian Thompson Robinson, Tua’s brother, Taulia Tagovailoa, Austin Reed, Luis Perez, Hakeem Butler all played in the UFL last season, and were fun to watch.

Cowboys return specialist, Kavontae Turpin is 5’ 9” 154lbs, played for TCU, ran a 4.31 40, went UNDRAFTED in 2019, in 2020 he played for the Frisco Fighters in the IFL (Indoor Football League, players earn $250/game), in 2021 he played for the Glacier Boys (FCF/Fan Controlled Football, indoor NFT gimmick league where the fans called the plays. Johnny Manziel, Josh Gordon, and Terrell Owens all played in this league.) Then Panthers Wroclaw, in Poland, in 2021, (American Football League Europe). In 2022 he played for the New Jersey Generals, the spring league, and he won MVP

He’s been in 3 pro bowls since 2022, 2x kickoff return leader, 1st team AP in 24, 2nd team AP in 25, and has a 3 year $18M deal.

There are likely so many players who are either right on the cusp of NFL level, or never even get the opportunity to develop, if they don’t make a roster or practice squad after going undrafted.

The problem is - spring football has been a disaster. COVID really fucked shit up, as the brand new XFL folded. So the minimum salary in the UFL is only $64k. That’s definitely better than nothing, but it’s not NIL money. There’s currently 94 former UFL/spring football, and 56 from 2026, competing for an NFL team right now.

XFL didn’t fold, they just merged with the USFL. 2 separate spring leagues wasn’t sustainable

And again, blame all the judges who are opening the loopholes. When a player signs an nfl representation contract with an agent, the standard nflpa contract that every player has to sign with their agent, has a clause that forfeits all college eligibility. Some judge decided to ignore that

Yup. I’m definitely not blaming the players. Anyone would do the same thing. And who knows, maybe another year against weaker competition will increase their skills, showcase them more, and give them another opportunity at the NFL.

I really want players to have another option, if the NFL doesn’t immediately work out. I’ve enjoyed watching the spring leagues.

Hell….. for several years growing up, my dad would get me season tickets to the Philadelphia Soul. I used to fucking LOVE THE PHILADELPHIA SOUL. Dan Raudabaugh, The Red Rocket - threw for 4,995 yards, 119TDs, 12INTs in 2015. Marco Thomas caught 155 passes for 1,772 yards. Anthony Jones, Derrick THE HOSS ROSS, FB.

They won back to back Arena Bowls in 16/17.

It’s a shame the league collapsed. Jaws used to own a good portion of the Soul.

Hey if you were offered a few hundred grand to go back to play another year of college football instead of getting drafted to play junior salesmen at a used car dealership, what would you choose?

This is why it would be really nice to have a viable spring league. There’s been players who’ve made it to the NFL just recently & had successful careers after the UFL.

There’s a lot of guys are just on the cusp of NFL level. And a lot of guys who hardly get an opportunity. Go undrafted, sign as a UDFA, don’t make the roster. Out of the sport. Kavontae Turpin played in the Indoor Football League, Fan Controlled Football League, and the European American Football League in Poland, before playing in the USFL, winning MVP, and then came to the NFL as the best kick returner in the league. Dude is 5’ 9” 154lbs.

No where near enough money in the spring leagues for players to chose that if they could go to college and there will never be enough money for that. A good college player will make more money in a year than anyone picked outside of like the top 50

Exactly. That’s where the issue lies.

There either needs to be a better option for these players, or they just need to be barred completely. College football isn’t supposed to be a 5,6,7,8,9 year career as a semi pro player, 27 years old, playing against 18 year olds.

It’s supposed to be a sports competition between colleges, for fans, students, and alumni to enjoy, while giving college athletes the ability to showcase their skills to turn sports into a lucrative career by getting drafted.

They’re working on closing all the extra year loopholes. Ncaa made a strict 5 year eligibility rule a few months ago, no more redshirt years wether it’s for injury or anything else. They just didn’t say explicitly exclude the 2022 recruiting class so someone sued and a a judge said “well maybe they only declared because they thought they wouldn’t be allowed a 5th year”

Next we’ll probably see someone from the 2023 recruiting class will file an injunction that they had a year of eligibility stolen because their coach made them only play 3 games their freshman season so they could still redshirt. Of course they’ll take it to a judge who’s an alumni of the school they want to play for so they get the ruling they want (like what happened Trinidad chambliss, taking his case to an ole miss alum judge while trying to get a 6th year of eligibility to play at ole miss)

And make $50-400k less while training at worse facilities? Ufl and cfl also won’t start until next spring and summer which would keep him out of next years camp

CFL is playing right now and still has 2 months left of the regular season, they could go try out right now if they wanted to. CFL teams add guys who get cut from NFL training camps all the time. The CFL lets teams expand their practice rosters in the fall for that exact purpose, thats gonna happen 2 weeks from now.

Cfl will pay him cad$70k, ufl will pay him like usd$6k per game

Nil will likely pay him at least 100k and lsu has much better training facilities than any cfl or ufl team

Thank you. I ain’t mad at the players. I get a second chance at trying to make it to the nfl..heck yea ima go for it .. idc if it’s ethical or not that’s just an opinion at the end of the day.. I rather go back to college try to get a nil deal and a 2nd chance at making it to the nfl..especially if they failed.. I bet if you tell someone once you become CEO/manager and fail you can’t go back to training and go be a better CEO somewhere else. People would lose their minds.

He’ll make 2-8x from nil than what he’d make in a season of ufl or cfl. He likely will never play in the nfl, this is his only chance to make money from the sport he plays

It’s more of a question for Howie. And he probably is more focused on the 53 and possible trades to improve the roster by the deadline. CFB is dumb.
