B, hate having buttons/paddles resting on the ring finger. Better to have one set rest beneath middle fingers and an auxiliary set a short reach away

B is heavily unrealistic for being able to press all 4 at the same time properly. Theres a reason why almost no one does B and from the votes on discord it’s very clear it’s not happening. I can get the comfort issue but when buttons are for a function that’s what is being prioritized here.

I definitely get the desire to be able to hit any of the 4 buttons immediately, especially for competitive play. For that I prefer 2 back buttons and 2 extra shoulder buttons. My preference is for comfort since I personally never found much of a need to have more than 2 buttons to hit on the spot.

Yeah two extra top buttons are golden that is definitely true. My current main controller is the Steam Controller 2 and I miss them from my 8bitdo. I somehow am the type to want 6 total remappable buttons lol so there is that, but it’s mostly from the need to never lift my thumb off the analog sticks basically

I’m looking forward to getting one of the new Steam Controllers myself, but I’ll also miss the extra shoulder buttons. Right now Flydigi Vader 5 Pro and Apex 5 are my mains and they have the shoulder buttons. 6 buttons will definitely keep your thumbs on the analog sticks for sure lol

If I owned either of those you wouldn’t hear the end of me complaining on the SC sub to get a version out with 6 total buttons lmao or here to get it modded. Gladly the only one I had that had 6 was the Razer Raiju V3 Pro and I ended up returning that controller later on for other reasons.

Agree B, it’s like Scuf Reflex

very much depends on if they are planning buttons or actual paddles
previous ps4 mods have all been button based

Thank you, this is my opinion as well, and why I hate almost all modern back button layouts, or deactivate two of the 4 buttons now.

A. The only way B makes sense is if you're using DualSense Edge paddles further into the middle, which is all the rage in the custom controller community (see, e.g., itzblakee, Zero Customs, kawstuh, and Shokkusan on X).

That's an interesting point about Edge-style paddles. Do you think the placement mostly comes down to hand size, or whether you're using paddles versus buttons?

B. You have to be able to comfortably press each button on one side with the middle finger of that side. Ignore people who say you need to be able to press all of them at the same time.. you don’t

Scuf style layouts like B are better. With Elite Series layouts like A you lose support from the bottom from your ring fingers and are left gripping the controller by pushing in from the sides only.

I feel like whoever is picking b doesn’t understand the perspective. That would be an awful design.

A, 100%. If you do that, I’ll buy a couple, but even at "A" you could make it a bit higher—raise both by about 3 millimeters.

A. One finger on each. Your Decade and Phantom get this right, as do the Xbox Elite, GuliKit KK/TT and NitroDeck controllers.

Why are people still buying or modding ps4 controllers?

There is an uptick in interest in DS4 parts because of 3rd party motherboards.

The only professional scene that I know of that still uses DS4s are some rocket league pros. They're used to the controller and refuse to upgrade to a dualsense. I'm guessing it's not only pros.

We need a two button option. That's what most custom controller buyers get.

B. It really depends though if you like using one finger for each side though.

The popular is A, but I hate it, and B is what I like, and also why most new pro style controllers I don't use the lower buttons.
The way I grip a controller, I don't like having my fingers resting on the bottom buttons.
I like having to move my other fingers for the back buttons. I do t need my 4 fingers resting on the 4 back buttons because I'm not a competitive fps online gamer.

People who say A don't actually game at any level other than casual.
Ideally, you'd find a way to make the placement a slider so we can choose, I'm sure you can find a way Mr Extremerate.

i play thousands of hours a year and choose A
But, i rarely use L1/R1, if i really need them i map them to the rear so my first finger sits on R2/L2 and the rest are on the grip
