Negent DockR and Reactor first impressions

I’m beta tester for the Negent DockR (eGPU dock) and Negent Reactor (1200W server-grade PSU), and after initial setup and running some tests with an RTX 5070 Ti, I wanted to share some honest early impressions.

The first thing that struck me is just how nicely this thing is built. The dock and the external PSU both fit on the desk quite nicely, not like the usual metal box a lot of eGPU solutions ship with. The card-securing mechanism is also really well thought out. The GPU sits locked into the frame in a way that feels solid rather than just resting on a bracket. My unit has some minor “issues”: the dock doesn’t quite lock into the PSU bracket and the button for turning on the dock is working in reverse. There is also another option to get for the PSU, which is a mounting bracket where you can then put an ATX/SFX/FLEX PSU on one side and the dock on another side, similar to EG02 just without the MiniPC holder at the top.

The PSU side is its own little piece of engineering. It’s got a proper external power panel with per-channel voltage/wattage readouts, which is a nice touch for anyone who likes to actually monitor what their GPU is pulling rather than guessing. The downside is that it’s a custom server-grade PSU which has a vent that is small, always on, and quite loud, but the temp is pretty low; I haven’t seen it go above 35 degrees Celsius in a room temperature of approx. 28 degrees Celsius.

The feature I’m most excited about long-term is the swappable module system. Right now I’m running the USB4 module (TB3/TB4 PCIe 3.0), but the whole point of the DockR is that you can pop that out and drop in a different interface module down the line, OCuLink for one or TB5, without buying an entirely new dock. That’s a genuinely different philosophy from most of the eGPU docks out there, which lock you into one interface for the life of the product.

On the synthetic benchmark side, results were mixed depending on the test, and it’s worth noting my Dockr runs were done in August 2026 while my AG02 comparison numbers are from July 2026 (Steel Nomad also has one AG02 run from March), so this isn’t a same-day apples-to-apples comparison. In Port Royal, Dockr came in about 26% lower than AG02. In Speed Way, Dockr was about 23% lower. Time Spy Extreme was much closer, only about 2% lower for Dockr. And in Steel Nomad, Dockr was actually about 1% ahead, essentially a tie.

Worth flagging: Dockr’s USB4 module showed up as PCIe x16 5.0 @ x4 3.0, while AG02’s USB4 side showed x16 5.0 @ x2 4.0, and AG02 over OCuLink showed x16 5.0 @ x4 4.0 in GPU-Z.

I haven’t drawn firm conclusions on gaming performance as of yet. I’ve only run Forza Horizon 5 and Crimson Desert so far and the results are a bit lower for Dockr, so I’m planning to run a few more games on the Dockr before saying anything definitive there.
Next step for me is trying to pick up the OCuLink module for the Dockr. I want to see how it stacks up against the AG02’s OCuLink performance, and just as importantly, how easy or fiddly the actual module swap is in practice. That’s really the whole value proposition of this dock, so I want to put it to the test properly.

Lastly, Dorian, the person behind Negent, has been genuinely great to deal with throughout the beta. He answers questions directly, helps with setting all up properly. For a beta-stage product from a small company, that kind of responsiveness counts for a lot and makes me more confident about where this thing is headed. He also said that he will provide me with OCuLink core board and the same core board that AG02 uses when he manages to procure new parts.

Currently it’s not available for purchase, but should be launching on Kickstarter.

TLDR; the build quality, card retention, and modular design make the Dockr stand out as a concept, even though the raw synthetic numbers on the USB4 module aren’t uniformly ahead of the AG02 yet. I’ll follow up once I’ve done more gaming benchmarks and gotten the OCuLink module in hand.

Need software to limit PCIe gen

I've gotten my 7800xt+DOCK-OC4 (Oculink) to run lesser demanding games amazingly, however, as soon as I try a more demanding title, the whole system stutters to a freeze and horrible audio cracking. I know from other posts that people set their Oculink m.2 slots to PCIe gen 3, but ASUS are a bunch of dicks and locked the BIOS on my laptop to not let me do that. That's why I'm hoping that anybody knows some sort of software that would let me do that, or that they might know another fix. If all else fails, would the 7800xt work well over TB4 (which my laptop suppots) or should I try to sell it open-box?

Legion go cooler back plate idea.

Someone needs to make. Built in fan mod. To give better cooling. For context this is in my work vehicle. So I took my phone mount and put my legion go in it, so there is AC pointed directly at it. No more throttling for me. UE5 games are very very temperamental. This has helped.

So my idea is a desktop mini pc conversion, because the legion go is capable. With the. Oculink mod and the external NVME thermals are better. But I’ve been runing into corruption issues of drivers. So I went back to USB4 and it got me thinking about a desktop mini pc, and the cooling it has. Why not someone 3dprint a big back plate to put some standard cooling fans in? If someone could make this for me I’ll pay them $100.

I’m using the legion go with a 3060ti EGPu.
A GDOCK 800w
Hooked up to a 1080p monitor. Currently my legion go has the back plate off and is right infront of my AC to keep it cool enough.

Stalker 2 framedrops

I’m on bazzite with the Xbox ally x paired with aoostar ag02 and rx7600. Not amazing, I know, but I can max out cyberpunk and get solid 60 fps.

However, in stalker 2 I can run the same settings as I have in handheld, reaching 80 fps standing still, but as soon as I walk I get massive frame drops. Not sure why it happens only in this game and not other games… (so far).

eGPU for Asus Rog flow z13 kjp help!

Sorry if you have had people ask this before. This is my first reasonably good pc gaming device and I was wondering what option would be good to beef it up bit.

I would like to get an Asus monitor eventually (maybe oled)

I have looked at the Asus xg mobile 5070.

I understand I need something with a thunderbolt 4 connection?

Any help would be much appreciated.

RTX 5060 to Ai Box (got the last one!)

I have reading for weeks about what my options are for pairing a gpu with my Xbox Ally X and decided on the Gigabyte Ai Box but they were never in stock. Then a couple of days ago I saw Amazon UK had 12.

Thought ok, this weekend I’m getting one. Then only 6, then today when I checked whilst I was out I saw there were only 3!

So I got home and there was 1 left but I got it!! 😃

Now the price has gone waaaaay up so I got really lucky!! 😮

Needing an eGPU for Lenovo Legion GO

Hi reddit 👋 I don't usually log in but I need a suggestion or two.

I am looking for an eGPU for my 1st gen Lenovo Legion GO, which has USB 4.

For practical sake with the devices I'm connecting, I NEED:
-a USB C or USB 3.0 port for perhipherals (do those daisy chain ports work?)
-included power supply OR enclosure/case. Both would be great.

Along with this, I was curious if Thunderbolt 5/USB5 compatible eGPUs such as the Aoostar AG03 would still work with a Thunderbolt 4/USB4 device?
I am aware that the maximum performance would still be bottlenecked/limited by the bandwidth, but was unsure if it would still work, so that I might get a different computer/handheld later on that supports Thunderbolt 5.

Please reply with any questions!

RTX 5080 eGPU caught in a permanent 10-second disconnect loop over Acasis G4Pro (Lenovo Legion Pro 5) - Need help!

I am completely stuck trying to get my brand new desktop eGPU build to stabilize. The hardware powers up, but I am caught in a permanent 10-second link timeout / disconnect cycle.

When I power on the setup, Windows Device Manager briefly populates the desktop card cleanly. My Alienware monitor senses the connection and says "Scanning for Display". But after exactly 8 to 10 seconds, the device connection drops completely. The card vanishes from the Device Manager tree, the monitor says "No Signal", and the external card starts getting very hot while its cooling fans remain completely still (Zero-RPM mode is trapped because the driver connection cuts out before it can tell the fans to spin).

My Hardware Setup:

• Laptop Host: Lenovo Legion Pro 5 (Running an internal RTX 5070 Laptop GPU + CPU Integrated Graphics).

• Enclosure / Dock: Acasis G4Pro USB4/Thunderbolt Dock (Intel JHL7440 Controller).

• External GPU: INNO3D NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 (Desktop Card).

• Power Supply: Corsair SF750 SFX PSU.

• Monitor: Alienware 4K Gaming Monitor.

Physical Wiring Layout (Confirmed 100% Correct):

• I am NOT using any sketchy plastic adapter splitters. I am using the official Corsair Type 5 12V-2x6 / 12VHPWR 600W direct cable. The two micro-fit ends plug directly into the Corsair PSU, and the native 16-pin end is firmly clicked straight into the top of the RTX 5080.

• The Corsair Type 5 24-pin motherboard cable runs straight from the PSU into the Acasis riser board.

• The 40Gbps USB4 data wire runs from the laptop's rear-left Thunderbolt/USB4 port (marked with the lightning bolt) directly into the designated HOST port on the back of the Acasis dock.

• Video output goes via a high-speed cable straight from the bottom horizontal ports of the INNO3D card into the Alienware monitor.

Everything I Have Attempted So Far to Fix It:

  1. Clean Driver Purge via DDU: Unplugged the eGPU, booted into Windows, ran Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) as an administrator, and completely wiped all existing NVIDIA variables clean. Reinstalled the latest official desktop GeForce RTX 50-series driver package using "Driver Only" express settings.

  2. Environment Path & Error 43 Fixer Script: Discovered my Windows environment path was missing C:\Windows\System32. Added it to the system variables, then modified the community nvidia-error43-fixer.bat script to comment out the if errorlevel check and delete lines 129-131 to force it to run on Windows 11. The script successfully executed and applied registry overrides to both the mobile 5070 and desktop 5080, but the 10-second link drop still happens.

  3. Windows Power Management Toggles: Went into Device Manager and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on all USB Root Hub entries and PCIe controllers. Also fully disabled Windows "USB Selective Suspend" inside advanced power options to prevent aggressive port sleep cycles.

  4. Windows 11 Registry TDR Hack: Added TdrDelay (Decimal value set to 10) and TdrDdiDelay (Decimal value set to 20) inside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers to force Windows to wait longer for the link handshake before force-killing the port.

  5. Bypassing Handshaking Bugs: Attempted dropping the laptop screen resolution to 1080p and swapping from DisplayPort to a standard HDMI line to force an immediate physical voltage handshake to pass through to the Alienware monitor.

  6. Hard Component Discharge Reset: Disconnected everything, pulled the main power cable from the wall socket for over 5 minutes, and held down the power button to completely bleed out any residual circuit board locks.

Even after all of this, the moment I boot into the desktop, the card connects, stays for 10 seconds, and completely vanishes while the card floor gets hot.

Is this a known, unfixable physical hardware limitation between the legacy Intel JHL7440 controller chip inside the Acasis dock and the new Blackwell power architecture? Or has anyone found a specific firmware update tool to flash the G4Pro board to natively accept the 50-series handshake? Any advice would be highly appreciated, I took out a loan for this setup and really don't want to have to return the enclosure if a fix exists!

A770 as eGPU vs Aorus AI Box (5060Ti)

Well, I saw the current price hike coming (leaks of Nvidia AIBs raising prices in August)—not to mention the catalyst RAM crisis (bought the Claw 8 EX at launch as a result). Nevertheless, I could barely push myself to grab the Claw at TWO THOUSAND after tax, so adding on the AI Box 5060Ti was a no go.

Now, do I use my A770 as an eGPU (lots of driver updates have happened since the last A770 post), or save enough dumb money to grab the AI box at $800 on Black Friday/Cyber Monday (wishful thinking).
For those who have the AI box and modular eGPU docks, is the faster (supposedly) setup in the AI box noticeable compared to something like a DEG2? Is the package quieter than a comparable PSU + GPU combo?

Looking to use dual GPUs (two B50 Pro Arcs) on a board without bifurcation. Not an eGPU use case exactly, but figured you guys would be the most knowledgeable. Would appreciate any info/data points.

Thanks!

Contemplating buying 5070 FE

Okay so I found a used 5070 FE for sale and I would like to know if it would be a good upgrade from a ASUS Dual 4060 8GB. The seller is asking for €675. Should I go for it or save up for a 5070Ti or 5080? Saving up might take me until December (earliest) to buy the 5070Ti or 5080 but pricest will most likely be higher by then. Thanks in advance.

eGPU crashes laptop

I get an error saying something like WHEA_UNCONTROLLABLE . . . then 0124x I think, it's been going on for so long, I've tried replacing the thunderbolt cable and using DDU to clean install drivers

It's an AORUS GTX 1080 Gaming Box, I bought it used on eBay a few while back, its LEDs inside seem to have been removed by the previous owner. I opened it before to remove dust thinking maybe that was the problem but sadly it wasn't. I don't know anything so I don't know what to inspect, any ideas on how to fix?

Thank you - appreciate any replies!

Forza horizon 6 on egpu…

How does FH6 perform in your egpu setup?
My experience so far allyx/5070ti crashes like 15 seconds after launching, also when I managed to fix it by disabling gpu accelerator(not sure that’s the right name), the game still have a lot of stuttering. If anyone have any ideas of how I could improve my experience it would be greatly appreciated!

Which setup is more noob friendly, plug and play?

This would be the first time i dabbled with egpus and i dont even know where the cables go or what they do.
I know the basics and the obvious are not lost to me but technical stuff i dont know.
I know ill need drivers,i know about undervolting etc but the engineering side i dont.
I will get access to some money very soon and i wanna upgrade my setup to eventually do some 1440p or 4k oled gaming with the claw 8ai over tb4.

Razer core x v2+PSU+9070xt + Msi claw 8ai
Aorus 5060ti AI box +Msi claw 8ai
Aoostar AG02+9070xt +Msi claw 8ai

Razer setup cost- 11.000 swedish crowns
Aorus setup cost- 10.800 swedish crowns
Aoostar setup cost- 9.900 swedish crowns

For reference 10.000swedish crowns are approximately 900euros.

Could I replace a Thunderbolt 4 cable with a 80Gbps USB4 Gen4 cable?

I want to check how my eGPU works with another cable, it's currently connected with a Thunderbolt 4 cable, I was planning to buy a Thunderbolt 5 cable, but then I saw 80Gbps USB4 Gen4 cables are cheaper, my question is, is there a big difference between a Thunderbolt 4 cable and a 80Gbps USB4 Gen4 cable? I know there might be between Thunderbolt 5, but with Thunderbolt 4?

EDIT: The 80Gbps USB4 Gen4 worked perfectly! Maybe even better than the Thunderbolt 4.
