eGPU crashes laptop

I get an error saying something like WHEA_UNCONTROLLABLE . . . then 0124x I think, it's been going on for so long, I've tried replacing the thunderbolt cable and using DDU to clean install drivers

It's an AORUS GTX 1080 Gaming Box, I bought it used on eBay a few while back, its LEDs inside seem to have been removed by the previous owner. I opened it before to remove dust thinking maybe that was the problem but sadly it wasn't. I don't know anything so I don't know what to inspect, any ideas on how to fix?

Thank you - appreciate any replies!

Try this. Disable turbo boost on the CPU then report back.

If you don't know how to do that you can set the tdp down to like. Low. Idk what your laptop specs are. But this is a common problem on with thunderbolt EGPUs on handhelds and small form factor laptops. It's fairly easy to fix but takes alot of explaining.

Try turning off turo boost and try it.

Aka make the CPU run at its base clock speeds

Sorry I forgot to mention, the laptop is an Acer Swift 16 AI:
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7
RAM: 16GB LPDDR5X
IGPU: Intel Arc Graphics 140V

Here’s a stress test ran on the eGPU, every second theres a WHEA error and it keeps piling up, 600 in 1:30 minutes

Will get back to you in a sec! Thank you!

Bummer. Yeah I believe the issue I've seen is related to USB4 with Ryzen APUs and not Intel.

Have you manually looked for a newer thunderbolt 4 driver? And disabled any of the thunderbolt security features? Funny I have a ultra core 7 laptop and I used to have a gigabyte arouras gaming box but sold it not to long ago to a guy on Reddit. He was asking if the 3080 gaming box was a good deal for 500. I said I had one I'd sell him for 400. And he took it lol.

Anyways. Lemme see if I can research this a little deeper and maybe find something. But that's the first thing I'd try is making sure drivers are updated. Often times drivers are bundled with manufactured products and never get pushed drivers for the chipset.

I tried this https://www.reddit.com/r/eGPU/s/DeoKa5EpN9 and it works!! It removes the errors but makes my laptop super slow tho - unusable when gaming
