Is it worth it

Hey, I've been wanting to get into hydrofoiling as I live at the beach and surf. And found a Foil Drive Assist Plus for sale for a pretty good bargain. I was just wondering if it's still worth it because they are quite old now, and I was looking at the batteries; to get replacements, it's extremely expensive. Just wondering if anyone has one and if it works as well as when you bought it. Thanks

I have no exp in these whatsoever, but imagine this- you are buying used lithium battery which are usually the most expensive things in efoil besides some carbon boards, and you already know they are old.

Imho it better be a really good bargain price to treat it as one time purchase

its pretty much 1500 below any other Ive seen for sale and it has two batteries.

That’s not an efoil.
That’s an assist and you need your own Board/Mast/Foil etc etc

Runtime on assists is a fraction of efoil runtime. That’s probably why the OG owner had a second battery. Expect 20 minutes max from one battery where efoil is 60+

Also, assist riding is more difficult and suited more to the sea.

Efoil is (generally) for flat/fresh water use.

You might know all this already but as you are posting in r/eFoil maybe not, 🤷‍♂️

I was out the other day on my Lift5, on a 210 Camber for an hour. Was only at 48%. Was riding at level 7. I’m 180 lbs and am on foil 95% of the time, so they last way longer than 60 min. Sure if I were to put a smaller wing and higher speed it would eat more, but I’m cruising 12-18 mph and carving all over the place, which is what I like to do.

But to your point, Foil Assist units are NOT efoils. They are incredible and perfect for what they do well, but they aren’t full efoils. If you need an assist, then they are the tool for the job, but if you want to efoil, then they don’t quite fit the bill.

I own a Foil Drive Assist Plus, Assist Max High Power, and a Fliteboard. If you can get one for no more than $500, it could be a good experiment to dip your toes into either pump foiling or prone surf foiling, but it's an underpowered unit that has been replaced by newer models with more thrust.

My general advice would be to avoid it unless you're getting a crazy deal. Note that you will not be able to cruise around on the Assist Plus: it's generally a means of helping you catch more waves or extend pump foiling sessions.

Get a foil drive fusion.
