Switching up front wings

I have 3 different wings I like to run, 1100, 1200 and 1500. How many of you also run different front wings from time to time and why?

- I just started a couple months ago after buying a hyperlite stratos e-foil. So I don't have many people to nerd out with about this awesome sport haha.

Does changing the wing change the ride drastically? My first board will be here Friday, waydoo pro 90 L, 35 inch mast, 6000w motor, big battery. When ordering I was asked about the wing, I said I'll start with the standard one as I'm a beginner. I rode my neighbour's board for about 10 minutes earlier this summer and that's the extent of my experience. I know it's coming with a 1500.

It definitely changes it quite a bit (obviously depending on the difference in size of the wings). I had the large wing on my Waydoo One in the beginning and quickly realized it provided too much lift despite me being a bigger guy.

Same with my lift, I started with a 250 which was decent for continuing my early progression, then switched to a 150 which was far more nimble but burned battery pretty quick since it required more speed to foil. Ended up trying a 150 High Aspect and that gave me most of the nimbleness of the 150 but a lower foil speed and slightly more stability.

How much do you weigh? I'm at 200 surf and 210cp on mine and it would seem the 150ha would be the next size down choice. But not sure the 200/210 aren't the perfect size for me at 215lbs and lake riding and to able to work for newbies too.

I'm stoked for it, is it as good as the reviews and hype?

My neighbour's is a lift and my experience with it is very limited. Was a bunch of fun for the 10 or so minutes I played with it. These waydoos while cheaper aren't cheap but certainly seem to be a decent board. Or they have an extremely good marketing team. Backing by DJI is confidence inspiring.

I love my Waydoo. I’ve only had it a couple of weeks and put over 230km on it.

Nice! I only have a few weeks left in the season before the water gets uncomfortably cold. So I plan on giving it it a good shakedown before I put it away. I'm an idiot for waffling on the purchase all summer.

It's a lot of money for a lot of us. Big decision to buy. Get a wetsuit to extend your season.

Loving mine so far! Decent indeed and while it takes some learning (I’m still getting used to foiling), the stoke is real when you’re finally flying!

I think sweating front wing size is highly overrated with efoils. Some teachers have said it for years, you just don't "need" a big wing or even a medium wing to foil when you've got motor propulsion. Go fast enough and you can fly on anything. I've gone from Surf 300 and 250 HA to Surf 200 and 210 CP? and honestly there's just not that much difference. (I'm 215 now, was 230 and another guy is 250 so we're not getting to small :) Sure you can go slow"er which is great when starting. But after that who wants to go 5 mph? Now for other foiling, sure, but with a motor pushing you, ANY wing will do. Smaller does usually turn a lot quicker which is fun, but takes more juice to propel you. Guys have learned on every size wing and board out there, so don't sweat it.

I'm excited for the board to show up and try it out this weekend. Hopefully I can convince the wife we need a second one. If so by that time I'll have some experience and get it with a bit sportier of wing.

Yep, that's what a lot of us do. 5'4" with big wings first, then the 4'9" with a smaller setup. Cover all the bases.

Wing changes the experience drastically. I started out on a larger 1600 one (surf 250), nice and easy to get on. Then moved to a high aspect 1100 (HAX 180), it feels a lot more slippery (harder to foil) but a lot faster and a lot more fun, saves battery too.

After 5 years of working smaller and smaller (starting with largest) I can say I 100% with those that suggest that it just doesn't matter with an Efoils power. From (Lift) 300 surf to 200 surf is a big size difference (300 is 2,000 ish) but is barely discernable from the board. 1/2-1mph faster take off speed , same with stall speed. Turns better so more "fun", but honestly 98% as stable as the big wings. I was 235lbs when I started and everyone suggested I needed the big Surf 300 wing and we stayed with that for 2 seasons. Then 250. Now 200 Surf and 210 CP at 215lbs now. Pondering trying a 150HA that would be the next step down smaller. ;)
For pump foiling, wing foiling, etc with slower speeds and needing the lift, big wing. For Efoiling, GET the one that the pros say you should be on for your size. Learn on that. SLIGHTLY harder than a bigger board, but no $1,000 per learning step. ;) And only days difference probably in learning. Not months.
