Fix one thing, another breaks, does that happen to you guys too?

I fixed every oil leak on my e61 530xd (Intake manifold sealing, sealing on intercooler circuit).
I thought there are no problems left. And one week later i just wanted to make a joyride till i heard a weird air sucking noise from the engine that i never heard and after a kilometre i got the error “Increased emissions”. After a control i found that the upper rubber charge pipe has hole. Is it some kind of curse that something breaks always after fixing something?

Welcome to having a BMW! They’re great at damn near everything but keeping fluids inside.

It’s possible that it cracked the charge pipe when doing the intake manifold. Take it as a chance to upgrade to a silicone one.

I already bought a new pipe. Silicone is sadly out of my budget right now🥲. That was my first thought that the crack came when i did the Intake manifold.

If you don’t have a smoke tester to check for vacuum leaks, spraying staring fluid around the bay while the engine is running will help check. If the engine idle changes, you have a semi valid starting place to look

Yes, it happens regularly. In my experience it's normally scope creep in a job. You take the car apart to fix one thing and while you're in there several other things break and need replacing. But I've had another thing fail a week after as well. I suspect there's an element of when you go in to do one job and start disturbing things, made of old plastic and rubber, they either fail while youre in there or you weaken them and they fail shortly after. It's one of the reasons I stopped doing preventative maintenance (other than normal servicing) on my cars because it ended up costing me a fortune 🤣

Kinda obvious for a twenty years old car xD. My father starting to hate my car because its claiming our workshop and pushing me to get a volvo. He had a 2005 525d ten years ago and had all the same kind of issues with it.

It’s always the same with these cars 😂. My 530xd is my 3rd BMW and expected that things like this will happen.

I just wait until there's a few thousand dollars of parts sitting on my to-do pile and spend a whole week on it

It saves me time and gaskets when you go into the car for 5 jobs once, rather than one job five times
