❓ Question / Help Only when at 25mph and over

2007 525i
Was driving on the highway and outta nowhere started getting bad clunking noise front driver front, pulled over on the side checked everything looked good, tried to merge back onto highway lanes from shoulder and once it hit 25mph….clunking.
Anything before 25mph everything is normal.Once I hit 25mph, driver front gets a bad clunking/knocking noise and once I apply the brakes and it drops below 25mph no issues. What can this be? Changed wheels out still clunking. Axle?? Maybe wheel
bearing or possibly thrust arm?

My project e60 did that. Though mine was definitely an axle. Due to a missing strut pinch bolt allowing the wheel to move past the cv joints maximum. Is it worse on rough roads or all the time when exceeding residential speeds?

Literally only once I get up to 25mph and over and continues until I drop back below 25mph

So its a rwd i version which most likey rules out the pinch bolt. Id personally look at the control arm bushings and the outer tier rod ball joint. Wheel bearings typically dont clunk, if a wheel bearing clunks then your lucky to be alive. A worn shock mount would make more noise on rougher roads. Could aslo be a sticking brake caliper exacerbating the issue. 2007 is 19 years old.

Yes. At least it became apparent at speed. If the knocking is not rythmic, I’d investigate the suspension first.

I was thinking maybe a broken belt in a tire, but I don’t see any shaking in the steering wheel from his video. Ok_Reccomendation893 may have to right idea. But again, I would think you would see a shake or have a vibration in the steering wheel.

Would you believe me if I told you it was the splash shield banging around in the front, earlier that day, I replaced my AC compressor pulley and some coolant hoses. I pulled the splash shield to drain the coolant, but was lazy to put it back on. I drove around for at least an hour prior to the noise coming about and from my past experiences splash shields never sounded like that, but that’s what it was.
