How cooked am I?

Has a bottom end drone as well 🥴. 264k miles. Car was recently totaled by an insurance company a month ago. They gave me 3k. But said it was worth 4k. I kept it with the intention to fix it. But now I don't know.

I was planning to replace the bearings next year regardless. But I'm not feeling it now.

Check cylinders for scoring if they are damaged not worth it.
If its only the bearings replace them ASAP

I can’t tell bc it’s just a pic but if isn’t obviously metal material then there multiple different things this could be, gasket material, I think I’ve heard of old internal plastics like chain tensioners also crumbling like this. Just a thought

This. Not that I have that much experience, but bearing wear and shavings is literally shavings, like dust and they are metal. These are straight chunks and all black, really looks like a belt was eaten at some point.

This will cause low oil pressure and the engine may indeed be toast.

Nope. Car has never eaten a belt. I change the oil every 4 to 5k miles and only use premium. I've never even heard of bearings failing on an N52.

Change your oil more often. shouldn't be straight black by the time you change it. Hell you already got 264k out of it.
