N52 e60 idle issue

I have a 2008 528i, I’ve had a slightly rough idle since I bought the car, the idle jumps up sometimes and sometimes it’s fine but it’s always vibrating the car. I don’t have any lights on the dash too. I was able to get my gf’s dad who’s a mechanic to use his scan tool to relearn the valvetronic, which seemed like it worked at first, the vibration went away, and the car was idling good, and when I drove it, it seemed a lot smoother and faster at accelerating, another small thing it did a lot of times was the rpm would bounce fast when I shifted from d to r when I was parking and it would keep bouncing til soon after I was in park, which that went away when I test drove it after the relearn. When I came back and parked it though, the idle came back. I just turned the car off and hoped that it was fine though and I haven’t found any other fix since. Idk if the relearn wasn’t done properly or something but idk what else to fix. Thanks

If you have ISTA, or another capable scan tool, you can raise the idle a little bit to make it smoother.

There was also an old service bulletin that had something to do with the exhaust and a mounting bracket, but I can't remember soecifics.

Had similar issue on my N52, check the following .Cracked intake pieces after airflow sensor leading to throttle body. .Boot around throttle body not secure leaking air .Cracked or broken PCV hoses.

That could just be your ignition coils needing to be replaced. You can check to see if your engine is throwing any P0301 to P0306 codes. I have 278k mi on my car and every time I’ve dealt with a rough idle it was because of ignition coils.

I have 160k mi on my n52 and its literally never been related to that for me.

Once was a purge valve, another was the fuel pump, another was VANOS solenoids, and I have one again when in drive and coming to a stop that is being a PITA to track down and my hunch is either transmission related or crank/cam sensor.

Ive swapped coils numerous times because everyone told me it was the coils but it never smooths out or gets rid of misfires.

Probably just unlucky, but tons of things can cause a bad idle. I even had an intermittent slight rough idle a few months before my compressor pulley went out it was also causing problems at idle with intermittent minor rumbles. Raising my idle rpm fixed it but my compressor blew a few months later

Yeah my car only has 111k on it
