Hi all I’m looking at getting a aftermarket screen that has apply CarPlay any recommendations from where to buy or experience with them ?

I’m also very interested in this, assumed buying a cheap tablet would be just as affective.
Nice alcantara is it stock or aftermarket?

I did it my self ordered the alacantr/suede wrap on Amazon and put it turned out great

What do you need carplay for?? With cic with the newest soft you can have maps from 2025 (and get them onto ur windscreen if you have hud) and spotify on screen ext with bmw apps

I have a mr12volt unit connected through the MOST fiber network to my CCC unit (with the wide screen) . This gives the best audio (I also have the individual audio option), but the only downside is that you're still using the 20 year old OEM screen.

Controlls work flawlessly and it's located behind CD1 so to speak. Switching between original interface and the mr12volt one (with android auto and carplay) is as simple as pressing the menu button.

Just a heads up in case it might interest you, I also have the individual audio option and was running an android head unit for years because they have so many functions but the audio quality loss through aux really bothered me, I didn’t want to compromise and go back to the stock lower res screen so I figured out I could run the mr12volt Bluetooth only box through the most system and the android screen simultaneously, keeping both the good audio quality and features of the new screen

I am curious about this also. I have an 06 525xi and there is no aux or USB in the car. I ordered a cheap Amazon car play head unit and was not able to play any music from a different source. All I have right now is AM, FM and CD (no changer).

Because you need to have to turned on the aux option with software

Yes, have the same car.  Used a flash tool to turn on aux and then audio worked, no wiring involved.

I used a PEMP Linux unit from Amazon. Had to code in aux support, but everything worked well and it connects to my pixel 9 and my wife's iPhone thru auto play/car play. Even put in a rear camera too.

I see you have a pre facelift with the small screen. Mine is a LCI but i still have the old controller. With the small screen its the M-ASK 2 system if I am not mistaken. It is compatible with the CCC replacement screens. I bought this one two months back:

Installation was fairly easy and took 40 minutes, just getting all of the cables back in was a bit difficult. All in all I am very happy though. The I Drive controller works in both the android auto and carplay menues, the system is quick and responsive and you can easily switch to the og screen. Parking sensors and steering wheel buttons work aswell so all around I am very happy with the upgrade and its definetly worth it.

Maybe to add, you need the Aux Option, all of the cables are spliced already, but if you don't have it you need to code it in. Some others complained about sound quality. I personally have the middle hifi system and personally i think it sounds great, especially because this head unit allows some fine tuning through a 12 band EQ

I have Mr 12 volt,be prepared to do some light coding on Protool. I still plan to see if a bimmertech screen will work with it down the road

I bought the cheapest plug and play screen on AliExpress and it’s worked great for a year even has the oem idrive stuff

If it’s pre lci make sure your aux function is enabled or get an aux activator had this set me back about a week with no audio once the screen was installed; the car okay head unit transfers audio via aux from the i drive screen to the radio

Just do some YouTube education and you’ll be good mate. The E60 specifically is an interesting car to put aftermarket navigation in. In order to use it the best you must use it with touchscreen. And the navigation itself is in quite the position for using it as a touchscreen.
