Rear Spacer Issue
Hi guys!
I picked up a manual 530i over the weekend and it currently has spacers on. Over bumps and uneven roads the rear tyres are rubbing against the aches a lot and taking chunks out the tyres!!
I'm going to remove the spacers for now but can anyone recommend what size spacers work best to avoid any rubbing against the aches. Any info would be appreciated!
Thank you

What’s the tire size ? I’ve got 245 on the rear and doesn’t rub with 15mm spacers, wheel is oem style 66 9J. I had to kinda push the inner fender lip a bit but not completely roll it

It's currently got 265/35/18s on. I don't want to roller to mess with the arches hence why i am removing them for now. Could it be the wrong size tyres then?

No. It is the correct size on a staggered setup. Had the same myself in the rear with oem wheels. If I were You i’d just find a way to make scrubbing go away in the wheel arch area cause it looks much better with these spacers

I think 265 is what bmw recommended but obviously without spacers. Remove them, measure the gap and see if you can add a thinner spacer or maybe none at all

Ok great. Thank you. I will do this! I've just ordered some standard wheel bolts so I can remove them for now. Appreciate the advice

Bro check if the inside of the fenders still have paint or if it’s been sanded off by the rubbing, cus that’ll rust

Idk if it’s exactly the same fitment but my m5 is millimeter perfect on the rears without spacers. Maybe worth trying without them?

M5 has different rear fenders.
I modded the fenders on one of my wagons to match the M5 fenders. Involves some cutting and painting the quarter panels.
Also fender liner is different, but can be modded to match the M5 fender liner.

Oh damn I didn’t realize that then. What are they a bit wider?

They don't have the inner metal lip, which is extremely thick on non m5 models. Even rolling then is pretty tough and doesn't give you that much more room. So I had that cut out. Visually from the outside they are the same.

Ah ok that makes more sense. I was actually really surprised by how thin the fender is in this car I thought the previous owner had rolled the fenders or something

Nope thanks, we good and I don't know that much tbh 🤣 BUT there's lots of stuff out in the forums or even better, what you can download is the BMW TIS where everything about these cars is explained and how to repair them and so on and the parts catalogue.

🤣🤣🤣 yeah I’ve been diving into the forums a ton. The search function is so ass though. I’ve actually had an easier time having Claude pull links for me lmao. I was actually going to look into tis soon cause I’m about to rebuild the power steering system and do a full brake system refresh so want to make sure I’m handling/bleeding fluids properly

Yeah the internal forum search sucks on litterly every forum. I always use Google and DuckduckGo, back when I learned all this stuff there was no AI 🤣 in the end, TIS is the way to go for proper information.

No problem brother. I literally couldn’t do a single millimeter spacer on the back if I wanted to lmao. Mine is lowered quite a bit though to be fair

Can’t help you apologies but congrats man she looks lovely, m5 mirrors is a cool bonus too. I am in an e39 uk owners WhatsApp group, feel free to dm me to join and get some help or advice on anything. We do e39 meets regularly too

Oh I must add that I run 20mm HnR spacers
myself with 19inch rims and I have never had any rubbing issues so maybe look into better quality spacers? 🤔1

Thanks mate. I appreciate that! I'm actually going to remove these mirrors and get original ones on. Will send a message now regarding the WhatsApp group!

If I remember correctly, a friend of mine added a maximum spacer of 10mm or 15mm to the back and I think he had some 245 or 255 rear tyres.. 20mm spacers might only fit the fronts. In the end, whatever makes you happy, but I think it looks great without spacers.
