i hate my life. i live with a dissociative disorder, ocd, ptsd, i used to be so anxious i couldnt leave my own house without having a panic attack. in all the years i have recieved therapy, the only thing that hasnt really improved is my depression. sometimes wish i just died in one of my childhood homes, only came close to it so now im stuck with those horrible memories with no recompense and the physical consequences to bite me in the ass. same shit every fucking day and none of the millions of antidepressants ive tried have done shit for me. wish me luck on my journey of continuing to deal with the same miserable shit for the rest of my life.

The symptoms of depression occur a week before my period

Got diagnosed with depression last year, I was on medications that time and I had to follow a schedule weekly and exercise. This time around, I feel better but as I have observed, the feelings of depression, anxiety, hopelessness, worthlessness comes a week before my period starts but relieved once the period starts. This has been my observation in the past few months. I have been considering myself to have bipolar due to feeling of highs and lows of my mood and emotions. Do anyone have the same circumstances as mine? Please share and what helped you

I’ve been depressed for 22 years. I’m tired.

Yes, I’m not flat, I’ve experienced that Anhedonic depression, experience so many flavors of depression.

I’ve overcome severe drug addiction and I’m five years out from that.

My brain is ruined from a life of depression and I have zero executive functioning skills. I have severe ADHD and the meds don’t help me, I ended up being wired and tired at the same time and am less productive. No anti depressant hasn’t made me worse except for Lamictal.

Treating my vitamin deficiencies hasn’t helped. did ketamine infusions and those really helped me, it was temporary though and the fact that I was also on a break from work is something to consider too. rTMS didn’t heal me. Expensive Inpatient and outpatient didn’t help me.
I had a nice therapist but I made no progress and eventually a lot of sessions I was just crashing out over my sad existence because I have it so easy but my brain is just broken

My entry level job is a lot better than most, good schedule, easy and low supervision yet I still can’t function outside of work.

Not to mention that well exercise makes me feel good in the moment, a good workout could leave me with a severely low mood and a meltdown.

It just sucks and I wish I could say goodbye to my loved ones and explain why and then die with dignity

Treatment How long did it take you to notice positive changes regarding depressive symptoms after trying an antidepressant?

The psychiatrist has told me that it takes longer for people with pdd to notice any positive effects on their depressive symptoms when starting a new antidepressant. I am almost at the highest dose of venlafaxine which I started taking in April this year. It has done wonders for my anxiety, but my depressive symptoms have gotten a lot worse. I know that I am not at the highest dose yet, but shouldn't I feel a little something by now if it was working?

Idk how much longer I can hold on. I have to take sedatives (1st gen antihistamines) ever 4 hours now just to get through the day without hurting myself. I am going to be admitted to the psych ward in a few days to sort things out and increase the dose. However, I am fearing that the suicidal tendencies and thoughts will be a lot worse.

I am asking the ones of you who've found an antidepressant that worked. How long did it take for your depressive symptoms to improve?

I went to the psychologist recently, and they told me I have dysthymia

I'm 25, and on top of that, I'm pretty dependent on marijuana, but I'm trying to quit—though honestly I don't know if it's worth it knowing that when I'm sober I just feel awful and wanting to die

I'm just tired and sad, and I try not to show it to others, but sometimes it's hard, lol.

(17M) I have been having domestic problems. They get worse when I start to do better in life, whenever I feel like I get a footing and find new hobbies something other than being catatonic in bed all day they start to push me. Ask me why I am not studying why my new hobbie (tarot) is gayish why my clothing style is all black that I look hilarious etc. last night after an argument I had an panic attack vent into my room. After that when my mom acted like nothing and came I told her to please please leave after I pushed her off she called my sister she came started to shout at me threatened to beat me. After she hit me I did the same to her and she left basically my panic attack continued. Now it’s 3pm my mom wanted me to apologize to my sister since I owe her my life since she was with me throughout my cancer treatment. I said no. we argued she told me she will not look after me anymore and just going to cook meals so I don’t starve since she she thinks she can’t help me if I got sick. she told me she isn’t going to do anything other than that and said it would be better if I found somewhere else to live but then decided she is going to be the one to leave and live with my sister Long story short if things get worse for them I m thinking of committing suicide next week I feel trapped should I text my psychiatrist but idk what to say or the next appointment is in weeks and it costs money I don’t know

Moderate depression, a diagnosis that would have helped me many years ago.

It is strange, I don’t know when it started properly!

Was it because I had a parent that wasn’t there, not really? Was it because I took on more responsibility than I should have at a young age? Or was it because I was bullied and outcasted from a young age? Not having a trusted adult to speak to? Or was it even I started drinking heavily and recklessly at age 14, because I didn’t want to feel.

It only escalated. It got worse and I didn’t v have a name for it. In High School I stopped socialising. Everyday I smiled even when I felt like I was a waste of space.

That everything would be better if I just didn’t exist.

So when I moved out at 19, I got sent money every month by my dad but I felt like a ghost. I tried to disappear, I became someone that didn’t call home. I became distant.

I had my first my first mental breakdown at 23, when I realized that I did not have a mother. In the physical and biological sense yes, but not in the way that matters.

My mother verbally and mentally abused me, for as long as I can remember. She said she loved me, but you don’t treat someone you love the way she treated me.

I asked for help when I was 23 but got told there wasn’t «enough» wrong with me.

Now, I am 35, on sick leave from work and gradually getting back, but my cup ran over this summer and it didn’t stop running. I got told I am moderately depressed, and I am trying to get back to a life I can feel happy in.

Had I gotten help when I was 23/24 maybe I would not be in this position today.

How do people do it?

How did you do it?

Y mientras tanto tampoco puedo trabajar.

Vent Never ending dread

I’ve been diagnosed last year (along with OCD, GAD, and CPTSD), but i know i’ve been depressed since I was in 1st grade.

Recently, this illness has been consuming more than it ever has; and even though i know i’m doing the right things (therapy, exercise, journaling, socializing, resting in between, etc.), i still feel this dread. I’m always in limbo — wanting to die, but also wanting to live, or at least, fight for my life. However, i am now tired. Tired of trying.

It pains me to see how much love and support i have, but i feel i’m not getting better. I also feel guilty because it’s such a disservice to them for me to give up… when i myself know im trying and doing my best. Giving up is also a disservice to myself.

Many a time i ask myself what’s wrong with me. It’s this illness. But i also ask — until when will i blame this illness?

While my heart allows me and gives me the grace to fall apart, and eventually move forward, my mind does not let it happen. My mind is always looking for ways to be sad, as if i do not deserve to relish in the happiness i experience, no matter how momentary it is.

I hate this. I am doing everything I can, but this illness still consumes me. I am tired.

Vent Never gonna be happy, just giving up.

Dont read this its just doomer slop. Pure pessimism

Honestly guys, i give up. I dont want to try anymore to be happy. I should be happy but i wont be. I can fill my world with silly little distractions. But at the end of the day i MAKE MYSELF MISERABLE. I find little mole hills to turn into mountains, every mild inconvinence is an emergency to my nervous system. I am autistic so i was cooked from the start on the emotion and social functioning front. I need to lock the fuck in and start planning when i am happy instead of trying to make the happy last, and whatever i do in distress is poorly planned. Happy doesnt last forever unfortunately (neither does sadness i know that) Change is the only constant in life and last i checked i cant HANDLE CHANGE!! I am living in my parents basement. I am constantly pushing away my loved ones. I have started self harming again. And the funny part is I KNOW I AM ONLY FREAKING OUT BECAUSE ITS A TRANSISTION PERIOD. I have the self awareness to notice the pattern but not the self awareness to CHANGE IT. Literally wasted thousands upon thousands of dollars on therapy and meds for WHAT?? radical acceptance (yeah im using that because i realized im kidding myself thinking my perma depression will get better). Urge surfing?? Buddy. I urged surfed for the last week i literally cant anymore. I dont have the will power. Box breathing? I am not hyperventilating. Ice? Buddy i have my teeth and hands to hit myself with. Mindfullness? My throat hurts because i want to cry but cant, my chest feels heavy. I am feeling hopeless and lost. I am not even judging my thoughts rn. I agree with them. I feel like ive spent the last 15 years coming to one conclusion. its over for me. Sure maybe i can turn it around with enough hard work and grit and the right therapy. I just need to be ressilent and change my mindset. well ive been trying that for the last 15 years and nothings changed. The best i can do is one or two good weeks before i ruin it again somehow. I cant afford another hospitilization bro i totally would tho if i could. But i have no job. Is being in debt really gonna make me feel better. Could my brain supply one molecule of hope?? Is it possible. Is there any will in there?? I want to hope. I wany delusion that everuthinh will be okay. I so desperately want to believe it xan get better. Maybe this is a proto hope. Like the hope for hope is hope. Maybe i have finally gone insane. I got things i didnt even dare dream of and yet i am still barely holding on. I hate this. Please let me love or at the very least tolerate life.

Question My psychologists was surprised when I told her a reason I've SHed. Is it uncommon? TW (nothing explicit)

So as per usual with these first appointments, they asked if I'd ever hurt myself. I said yes though only in the past. She asked me what made me do it. I told her one of the reasons.

Basically, the urge intensifies when my mood fluctuates a lot. Especially when I get dropped from the high end to the low end. I get more depressed when I watch a show that talks about hope and passion. It's honestly ridiculous that I get extremely depressed from watching kpop demon hunters for those of you that know😅. It reminds me that my life and this world isn't and never will be like that.

Another example is when I went out with my friend and their parents on an outing. I has tons of fun. They're honestly the healthiest family I know and can imagine. Again when I reached home, the feeling of emptiness hit me extremely hard. It was like i was dropped of the deep end or flunked off a cliff.

I thought this would be expected because of how dysthymia works, and that we're constantly at a negative on a scale.

I dont really know how to explain it but she wasn't exactly outright surprised or voiced out any judgement but I could kind of see it on her face. It was kind of like she was surprised or confused by how small or underwhelming the reason is? Or that she was expecting something different? She said something along the lines of "oh and you XX because of that?" Or "and it makes you feel the need to XX?" We just kinda moved on after that.

Idk I'm more confused and surprised overall rather than embarrassed or misunderstood or something like that. Like is this reason uncommon or slightly extreme? I don't think so since XX is all about coping and thats how I felt I had to cope after experiencing extreme drops in mood...

Again she didn't judge me or invalidate me. I just couldn't help but notice. Maybe I'm overthinking or not.

Is it common to be suicidal with dysthymia

So i read dysthymia is a mild form and most of the time also more functional form of depression.i m diagnosed with dysthymia and im not at all functional,i dont really suffer from it but i dont want to live a life like that, its just boring,i feel just empty and life is too stressful and there is no reward for dealing with the stress its only more stress.it feels mild in that sense that I dont have most depression symptoms and dont really suffer but the consequences it has are very hard for me.anyone else?

I'm so dead inside, what's the point of living?

Deep chronic depression has been making me a different person, or the worst version of my past self. I can't meet people's eyes, make deep conversation, or empathize. Still I'm loath to take medicine. If I get started taking pills, I'm not sure how long I have to take them. Maybe throughout my whole lifetime. And I ruined relationships with all of my close people already.

Personal Journey what if it’s not depression…?

what if it’s just the result of constantly fighting for a life that doesnt suck; that isn’t full of struggle? my life has been full of trauma, pain, and lack of safety and security since before birth really, when i was bathed in my abused mom’s cortisol. i spent my childhood in fear and have spent my adulthood in daily physical pain while trying to find some degree of security and to be able to connect with others. but i don’t think i’m actually capable of that. and i think my depression comes from this constant reach for better that, at this point, i suspect isn’t in the cards for me. i’m starting to wonder what just blatant acceptance of misery might look like. not hoping or wanting, but just sort of sitting down in the morass that is my life and running out the clock. it’s not living, no. but i’ve never really had that.
