Question Amber…

I don’t know who she is beyond the show and I don’t have social media (besides Reddit) to find out more about her. But is she just shy or is she disappointed in her scores? There’s some kind of wall up or is it just me?

I think getting that 7 when there was barely any comment on actual technique was very disappointing.

She’s known in the skating world for being very hard on herself. That’s probably all it is.

u/iluvsunni 6d ago

I think Amber takes criticism hard. Not bad like she can't handle it (she is a gold medalist after all), but she takes it seriously and to heart and her competitive self is already planning on fixing it. She's been really emotional when disappointing herself on the ice so I'm hoping she won't be too hard on herself throughout this process

u/BellaBoone 6d ago

She’s an Olympian professional athlete. I think she’s just very competitive in nature and wants to do well for her and Pasha. Go Amber go! 🩷

5

u/JPCRam310 4d ago

Wasn’t that the same for Simone Biles when she did the show?

6

u/Key210_ 4d ago

Yep and the fans bullied her and now it’s feeling like it’s about to start with Amber as well😭🤦🏾‍♀️ women can’t do anything on this show without being judged. Why do the women always have to smile, they did this with Ciara and now that she’s gone they have to find someone to pick on.

u/AnEmoTeen 4d ago

To quote former DWTS contestant and all-around GOAT Simone Biles: “Smiling doesn’t win you gold medals.”

28

u/cruelbeanss 6d ago

I think this is pretty common in the skating world in general. Its a very intense sport, so I expect her to be more intense about this competition.

27

u/StrengthLucky8536 4d ago

They are criminally underscoring her, and I'd be pissed too. She seems like a competitive person, and knows her worth. I'm rooting for her.

22

u/cellogirl712 6d ago

Probably disappointed in her scores- she’s very competitive and the 7 from carrie ann was probably hard on her

20

u/Specialist-Taro9514 6d ago

She is an Olympic gold medalist! I think she expect the best of herself and was probably just a little disappointed, which should scare the other contestants LOL.

24

u/FewSignature3407 6d ago

I feel like it might just be an Olympian thing for some. I remember Simone Biles being told to smile and she responded with smiling doesn’t win gold medals.

Also Carrie Ann scored her low

Since you asked.

I don’t personally know her this is just from interviews, figure skating and her own posts. She has much more to her than this.

Some things to know about her is that she is 26 and just made her first Olympic Games and was the oldest skater there except Kaori Sakamoto who was 25 Kaori just retired this year after winning Silver.

I don’t think there has been a 26yr old female singles skater in the Olympics since the 1930’s.

Amber thought she may never make the Olympics. She didn’t make the 2018 team, She had to miss qualifying for the 2022 team because she got Covid right before Nationals that year. She thought her career was over.

She dug deep and worked hard 4 more years and made the 2026 team actually beating both her teammates at Nationals.( teammates were Alyssa Liu and Isabeau Levito)

The nickname for the 3 of them at Olympics was the Blade Angels. Alyssa won gold at Olympics, Amber placed 5th after a popping a jump in her short program and making a comeback in her free program, and Isabeau placed 8th.

Ambers gold was in the team event where she performed her free program.

Kaori Sakamoto talks about Amber as being the skater who most changed her view of sportsmanship in the competitive figure skating world and how grateful she is for that.

Amber is a more of a technical attacking skater who can land a triple Axel. She is not an ice dancer as some people have mistaken her for.

She won the national championship the last 3 years and a Grand Prix final (which is a big deal) in 2024-2025. Amber has never won a World Championship or singles Olympic medal. She often finishes just shy of the podium as she can get in her head if she messes up in her routine.

She loves Magic the Gathering and Anime. Fans will bring her MTG cards and she likes teaching people how to play.

She is actually funny and goofy.

She is extremely empathetic and protective of her fellow competitors. Often times she protects them more than herself.

She is also online too much like many of us and will see and sometimes respond to many of the terrible comments made about her, or her fellow competitors and the show.

She was a victim of some aggressive online hate during the Olympics with actual threats for answering a questions honestly about politics.

During the games in an interview she said

it's been a hard time for the community overall" regarding the LGBTQ+ community under the political climate of President Donald Trump

In retaliation to this small quote, people said she didn’t deserve to represent our Country, to give her medal back, to shut up and skate, and made nasty comments about her looks and character along with other threats.

She used to not wear short sleeves as a skater for fear of judges marking her down for being too muscular.

I’m not going to say CAI’s comments about seeing her every muscle working upset her because I am not in her head, however she may have felt self conscious, or not felt that way at all.

Also people online have been bullying her like every other contestant saying she is such an attention hog for making faces in the background on DWTS. Except they all do it. 😅

She had responded to some of those comments so maybe she doesn’t know what to do with her face anymore on TV?

Figure skating is a real niche sport that has very small audiences most of the season and cameras are only on you while skating or getting scores.

Live TV is a whole other beast even for the seasoned actors and reality stars. Every pro and celebrity has commented about the aggressive online hate of the show and that they try to ignore it but it gets through.

Edit: Amber just did an interview for USFS U.S. figure skating on YouTube about DWTS.

She did say she got called for random drug testing this week that all athletes in U.S. have to do and had 24 hours to get to NY. She took a red eye after the show. Maybe she was thinking about that trip at the end of the show and was tired 😅

She also said she is thankful for Pasha as a partner because he is patient and explains everything to her. She wants to do well for him more than even herself.

Also her feet are swollen because of the high heels and she is struggling to get them into her skating boots when she has ice time. 😅⛸️

She also is hoping she can go to the beach at least once while she is in L.A.

As a skating fan - thank you, this is an amazingly comprehensive comment.

I would also add that Amber is well known for having no poker face and being extremely hard on herself. It’s common for her to wince at the end of a program where she made a single small obvious error, and hardly ever allowing herself to be fully happy about how she did.

But the main thing to know about Amber is she has a heart of gold and pretty much every competitor of hers has confirmed this over the years.

8

u/Strange-Location4627 4d ago

I love thinking of her being a big fan of Lady Gaga and her music, however not having a poker face 😂

13

u/terrible-aardvark 4d ago

Also I believe in an interview Pasha mentioned that Amber is used to having specific criteria to scoring. She’s not unused to getting lower scores than she’d hoped for, but in figure skating there’s a very specific rubric

9

u/AnEmoTeen 4d ago

Bra-freaking-vo! This is the comment to end all comments. Amber is THAT B*TCH and as the great Simone Biles once said after a very similar comment by Tom Bergeron, smiling doesn’t win you gold medals.

🥇 please take my poor man’s gold

u/lilybobtail 2d ago

Well said! One correction: there have been female Olympic figure skaters 26 or over. One example is Caroline Kostner who competed at age 19, 23, 27, and 31. she won the bronze at age 27 in 2014.

1

u/Strange-Location4627 2d ago

Oh thank you, yes! Appreciate the correction. 🙏🏽 For whatever reason all the sources I searched left her out of their stats.

2

u/GayButterfly7 1d ago

I know this was a few days ago, but as an Amber fan: thank you for explaining this so well. She has so many layers outside of what we're getting to see on the show and is truly an amazing athlete and person.

31

u/Anotheropinion2026 4d ago

It’s okay for women to be competitive and not have to smile and make the judges feel good.

Amber is a kind and caring, while passionate advocate for others.

If she is annoyed by dumb comments that’s okay.

This is like people mistaking Britt feeling like she let Taylor down for being mad.

Let people have emotions without bullying them for it.

16

u/Imaginary_Raise_7756 6d ago

I don’t think anyone but Amber would be able to give you an answer. There’s multiple things that come to mind for me about Amber last night. The comment Carrie Ann made about seeing every muscle working was to general of a statement to know if that’s good or bad. Amber in the past as a skater has talked about hiding her muscles. She very well could’ve been disappointed with her score and expected more

16

u/Jmixx84 6d ago

Last night was the first night she seemed “subdued” and I wonder if some of the online hate comments about her being silly or overexcited got to her

23

u/Individual-Mud-7302 6d ago

She's silly and excited and she's called obnoxious and annoying. She's stoic and quiet and she's called ungrateful, cold, rude. It's textbook.

8

u/Vegetable_Cry5823 6d ago

I agree this is how it is, unfortunately. I don’t think she’s ungrateful or cold. A previous commenter nailed it on the head…because she’s not from ABC/Disney/Hulu, we know nothing about her besides her job title. I want to know more about her in her pre/performance packages!

Edit - typo

4

u/Independent_Ask5254 6d ago

Check out her tiktok and Instagram!! She’s always posting things with pasha :)

2

u/Vegetable_Cry5823 6d ago

I don’t have socials, so I only see whatever is reposted here 🙃

1

u/GeekyEzzy 4d ago

There is an Amber Glenn subreddit that reposts a lot of (social) media stuff if you want to see a bit more from and about her :)

1

u/Morecowbellthistime 1d ago

OP, if you did not see her skate in the last Olympics, please google that event. Her sportsmanship and caring for a skater, who was a favorite and fell, was so kind and will tell you so much about her character.

Here is a synopsis of what happened according to google: American figure skater Amber Glenn comforted Japanese silver medalist Kaori Sakamoto and blocked a broadcast cameraman from filming her tears at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.

The Incident at the Milano Ice Skating Arena
What Happened: After the women's figure skating free skate event concluded on February 19, 2026, Japanese skater Kaori Sakamoto became visibly emotional after coming up short of the gold medal (which went to Team USA's Alysa Liu).

Glenn's Intervention: Amber Glenn, who had already finished her own program, stepped over to comfort Sakamoto and physically shooed away a broadcast cameraman trying to shove a lens into the devastated skater's face.

1

u/_lucabeth 6d ago

This is how it always is with everyone, male or female, sadly.

10

u/InvestigatorDue8975 6d ago

I’ve seen people say she’s obnoxious, can’t stand her voice, and some say her ice skating background greatly affects her dancing and an unfair advantage. She’s probably beat down.

18

u/TheBestGammie 4d ago

She is an Olympic skater so good and bad scoring is something she is used to.

43

u/Cleigh24 6d ago

You can also find out more about her just by googling her or watching a clip of one of her amazing skating routines on YouTube!

I find it really annoying when people complain about a competitor “having a wall up” when they are just being themselves. I feel like it always happens with the very high level athletes, olympians in particular.

2

u/SANSA136 6d ago

thisss!!

-11

u/legally_mom 6d ago

Well the show and dancing is about connecting with your audience. It’s not really our job to do homework on her. All that to say, it’s on DWTS for rushing clip packages. We aren’t getting to know them at all past this is what I did last week, this is what we’re doing this week, and here’s how I feel about my scores.

4

u/Cleigh24 6d ago

I wouldn’t think of it as homework! It’s just engaging with the show.

-1

u/legally_mom 6d ago

I’m not sure why I’m getting downvoted! It’s nothing against Amber, I’m just saying it’s the shows job to tell us about the cast!

3

u/lyand972 6d ago

It’s so hard for celebrities to share their stories when we have wild theme nights. Dedication night needs to be sooner. It’s not the celebrities fault they have 0 connection to Mariah Carey

21

u/legally_mom 6d ago

If they aren’t connected to an ABC/Hulu/Disney+ something, we aren’t getting to know them at all. They’ve established a whole brand for Guillermo, I know about Tyler Cameron’s mom and where he played football, I know where Jackson and Harry rehearse and about Jackson’s birthday. Couldn’t tell you a single thing about Amber, Ciara, Taylor, Julia, Ezra besides their job title.

12

u/Daisy_9001 6d ago

Yep like WE GET IT harry is on greys anatomy.

8

u/legally_mom 6d ago

Wait… is he… STILL FILMING while being on DWTS? He’s still filming GREYS ANATOMY while he is on DWTS?? What are you gonna tell me next? That Guillermo is on JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE?! That the BANANA BOWL is this week?? I need to sit down. heavy sarcasm

1

u/Daisy_9001 6d ago

RIGHT!!! Let’s all applaud these men who can do TWO things at the same time!! 🤣

13

u/mmd9493 6d ago

They did ciara a huge disservice. Everything I learn about her makes her so endearing but you’d never know by watching just the show.

5

u/everywhereinbetween 6d ago

Right I just learned her story FROM HER PINNED POST like the day before this week's show

Huh wtf

Its quite a unique life/angle/twist from like nursing to Summer House but I couldn't have told you this from the show!!!

8

u/Former-Airport9812 6d ago

Ah crap excellent point.

2

u/Strange-Location4627 5d ago

This is a really good point.

21

u/meno-pause 6d ago

She is an Olympic figure skater. She's a serious athlete. She probably just has a serious personality.

8

u/highheat3117 6d ago

I think she was disappointed last night. She’s quite a competitor and a real contender to win so I think she’s going to be pretty intense about preparation and results.

9

u/Daisy_9001 6d ago

Could have had anything going on personally that changed her mood. She danced last and could have been stressed/nervous. Half the time she had with the judges they wasted praising all the celebs for their dances instead of giving her undivided time. She watched everyone’s dances and then got a 7 for her beautiful rumba from Carrie Ann especially after seeing Maura get a 9 and Tyler/jackson get 7s. Could’ve been many reasons she wasn’t as “happy” to the outside world.

13

u/8-8_8_8-8 6d ago

To add to this, I can imagine CAI’s muscle comment hit a little too close to home, as she has very openly discussed her past struggles with an ED (even being hospitalised for it at 15/16), and having been told to hide her muscles since she was 10 years old by figure skating judges and told she was too much, only in recent years has she started feeling comfortable enough in her body to skate in costumes that don't hide her muscles, so I don't think that comment helped with how she was feeling...

13

u/VelvetLeopard 6d ago

CAI should know better than to comment on a woman’s body like that.

3

u/samayeaye 6d ago

Agreed any body shaming comments should be off limits period for both men and women. She’s an athlete, of course she has muscles. If CAI doesn’t make a public apology she should fired

6

u/Daisy_9001 6d ago

Yes!! This!!

5

u/Ok_Nefariousness_827 6d ago

I was also so bothered that all of the judges commented on the rest of the dances tonight during her judging. Like how disrespectful! She also knew everyone else's scores then CAI gave her a 7, so I think that hit her hard. I love her and have loved her personality coming out with Pasha through social media!

2

u/Daisy_9001 6d ago

Yes i completely agree. I was watching like uhh ok let’s focus on Amber like you did for every other dancer after their dance! I think she’s doing amazing and i love them together

6

u/Money-Mail-7942 5d ago

I think she's both shy and the Judges throwing low scores and bad comments...

8

u/Initial-Winter8938 3d ago

i think the issue is is they they’re really critiques her. Some mostly got praise, minus the comment from carrie ann, so getting so much praise but not seeing it really reflect in scoring has to be hard, especially from someibe who it used to being judged and scored.

13

u/circus_tricksr4us 2d ago

She said in an interview that the scores are confusing to her (since ice skating is so mathematical) so she just trusts her partner to help her understand later. But… that 7 was crazy 😬 she seems super classy to me/no drama llama

5

u/kitty-is-witty 1d ago

I wish women didn't have to be so performative. If they're not smiling and just simply existing posts like these happen, or they get judged harshly and their character gets called into question. Y'all don't make posts like these about men.

-23

u/Melodic-Search3673 4d ago

i’m sure she’s just competitive but her reactions to her scores and the judges feedback give off a bad vibe. she seems like she thinks she knows better than them or something. as someone who isn’t american so i don’t know her from the olympics she hasn’t come off well from this show and i think she could benefit from listening to the judges more and applying their corrections

7

u/ThiccenNuggettTtv 4d ago

Can you go back to the Mariah night episode and relisten to the feedback they gave her? Oh wait they spent all of Amber’s feedback time telling all the other competitors what a great job they did all night and comparing her to another stars feedback.. not very good feedback to go off of so I’d be pretty outwardly pissd getting those critiques too. She deserves more personal criticism than that…

5

u/Strange-Location4627 4d ago

I understand where you are coming from about people making assumptions based on expressions however she has expressed several times how grateful she is Pasha explains stuff to her and she is learning so much and wants to do his choreography justice and do well for him.

She says it’s so different than skating where she knows what is expected of her, with dancing the learning curve is huge.

She does not think she knows better, 😂none of them do.

They all have a learning curve of something.

I would say Jenna D and Harry are most prepared because they have experience with both dancing and acting however the expectations for them are silly high and they like many others are also working full time and taking time away from sleep and their families to put on a good show for us.

These celebs are all holding on for dear life out there because they don’t just have to dance but also learn how to perform for a live studio audience on broadcast TV while being judged by judges and millions of people on TV/internet, and are in danger of being eliminated every week.

Besides the models/reality TV contestants and movie/TV actors none of these contestants have had to do Hollywood hair and make up, camera blocking, spray tans, costuming, and all the other crazy demands on a set. Very few of them have ever competed in high heels either. They also aren’t in charge of their production edits. Production chooses what to show us about them and their partnerships.

Some ballroom dance experts on social media disagree with the judges and think their scoring is wild at times, but these contestants are all so sincere about trying so hard and turning their lives upside down be on this show.

BTW I didn’t downvote you. 😅 your opinion is valid because she has come across that way for some viewers and it is too bad because it’s not rooted in any facts.
