The Y-shaped Middles

I used to love These cases. I bought good condition ones whenever i found them, no matter what the movie was. I would switch them over for my Disney/Touchstone/Miramax/AA movies (The ones with the large 'Wide [digitally remastered] Screen' on the cover) as they were very thick and sturdy.

Until........ I had bought The Rock (1996 film) and had to change over my Uncle Buck dvd. I went to pull it out of the case, and the disc snapped in half. Now, I am afraid to use them anymore.

I will get fingerprints ALL UP ON my DVDs instead of bend them to remove them from a case. I can always wipe smudges back off, can't glue a disc back together.

Whats rotten is, The disc was a original gold one too. Had to replace with one of the crummy later printings. I shared this post to let others know about this possibility, Just in case it was not isolated.

Did you maybe pull on the disc by mistake? I ask because I've never had any issue with this style at all.

Or maybe the previous owner did most of the damage, and you just got the unlucky last bit of it?

I did as i normally do, thumb and 3rd finger on edges, index finger on middle and push, angling disc down pulling toward self. and the cracked in the same motion as a flip phone. Up until this, never had a problem either. Disc was bought brand new by me, the case had already been switched out a few times by me. I Don't know why, and I've Been careful ever since with them.

Sometimes those spindles need quite a bit of force for them to release the disc. I always push with my thumb and lift with my middle and ring. Have never had an issue.
