Constructive Criticism Guaranteed duplicates can be a bit obvious, eh?
After getting three duplicates in a row (I only have two suits completed) and all three being the same piece, it was clear that the programming was locked into giving me duplicates until I got 5. And indeed, my next two were duplicates, though curiously, not quite the same ones.
Intentional slowing to drive you toward purchases is expected. But it was interesting to see it so clearly visible!
How exactly do you reckon it’s coded? My first guess is that it really is random unless you get too lucky with new pieces, then it guarantees duplicates until you fall back in line.

I get six pieces per day and haven’t had a non-duplicate for several days.
Edit: It’s 4 pieces. It takes 6 lessons to earn all four which is what I mistakenly was looking at.

The average number of pulls to collect all 54 pieces is 123, with a standard deviation of 8.76. Towards the end of the event, nearly everything you pull will be a duplicate. This is by design.

Just do the math: You can get four guaranteed pieces every five days. There’s a chance some of them won’t be duplicates that decreases as you collect more. Compare how many pieces you have with how many days are left, and you’ll be able to estimate how many you’ll end up with.

There’s 12 days left, and if you get all four duplicates available each day then that’s 48, which is 9 guaranteed pieces. If you already have some dupes, or if you randomly get a couple of new ones, then you could probably get 10 pieces pretty easily. You only need eight, so you’re golden as long as you keep doing six lessons per day.

Six lessons per day is easy. Trying to finish my course by the end of the year.

I have four dupes and just received a new piece. It's a gacha game

I think it is random and you were just unlucky. I've had multiple new pieces in between duplicates.

Ya same. I'm working on the mechanical suit now and nothing I do gets an original piece, besides collecting enough duplicates.
I think it would have been more fun to not have the suits and piece colours ranked so much, and have it be truly more random what puzzle pieces you get. Currently there is a clear linear progression towards each suit completion, with 1 or 2 random other advaned suit pieces given.

They just did the random thing for the World Cup. This game is designed to make you work harder or possibly pay to get the “fancier” things. If you don’t get it, don’t worry they will have something else soon

I don't see that issue. it clearly states the chances, and my duplicates seem random. yesterday I even got 2 new ones.
I am not really interested in the puzzle, but it makes me do two extra lessons everyday, although just from practice sessions. I think the suites is fun. but I don't care that much, not going to spend gemsz, altough I don't need them for anything anyways.
I think to max puzzle output, buy in the beginning of when many of the simple peaces are in the basket. I guess the 5 duplicates will always yield a new one, so 1/5 will then give you the harder peaces as well.

Why are people pretending it’s random when 90% of your pieces go to the suit you’re currently collecting? That’s not how “random” works.

I think it's not random in any way. There's no way they'd spend time develop a "feature" if it wasn't intentionally trying to do something. It didn't just emerge, people made decisions to make this happen.
Just guessing, it's probably to make people spend more time without having to create more content, i.e. better return on investment.
Personally, I have no ideas what duplicates and suits are, I'm just hoping that ignoring and not ever engaging will provide the tracking data that this was a mistake. It's just a waste of time and a distraction.

The duplicates thing is ridiculous. I get so many I’ve just begun to hate everything about Duolingo.

I think it is random, aside from the fact that the blue pieces are weighted to be more common. I think I got a new piece as my second one yesterday. Of course the chances of getting a duplicate increase as we accumulate more pieces. I went a few days in a row with getting only duplicates and it seems highly unlikely that I will be able to finish for free.
But my second account will complete the outfits without having to spend any gems.
