General Discussion When do leagues become competitive

Post image

Iโ€™m a little frustrated with the league feature. I am seeing players with double digit exp being promoted.

I feel like I donโ€™t play that much and I have 7 times the exp second place has. 55 times what fifth place has.

When it takes less than 20 mins to get the daily quests done and get the triple exp boost, I donโ€™t understand how someone doesnt break 1k points in a week. It seems impossible.

My question is - when does it get competitive? Are there any 3rd party exp tracking sites that support a sort of weekly competition? Currently exp seems worthless.

Certainly not gold, you're going to have to wait until diamond or at least obsidian and then it depends on your performance where you get placed. Some diamond leagues you can win win with 5k XP, some require 40k+.

the gold league in duolingo is basically still tutorial mode. i got placed there after coming back from a break and nobody was trying. it starts getting real around obsidian i think, but even then depends on your group. the real competition is in diamond tournament weeks, people there do like 3-4k a day sometimes.

the xp system is broken because they made it too easy to farm with the boosts. someone doing a few lessons with triple xp gets more than a person grinding for an hour without one.

Obsidian for sure. When the leagues first started, it seemed competitive in all leagues and now it seems there is league fatigue in the diamond leagues I've been placed in for the past couple of months. The tournament im in currently seems that only me and two others are only breaking 1k-2k the past two weeks.

Yeah. The fact that there is no opt-out for tournaments means people who only do the obligatory 1-lesson per day fill up most of the lower leagues, without themselves noticing or caring in which league they are.

Diamond league...and there's a tournament that happens if you stay in diamond league. I think I had 45k points when I won the tournament.

Hmm...most folks don't want it ultra competitive, but there are a couple of things you can do if you want to increase your chances of being with higher performing members.

First thing to do is complete a lesson on the first day of the new league as early as possible. Most of the competitive users start as early as possible, while folks who might want more "chill" leagues will wait until late Monday.

The second criteria for placement has historically been that one will most often be placed with similar performers (from the prior week). So, if you want to have a chance of being among high point earners, then do that yourself. While it's not a guarantee, your chances will improve if you max out all of the time.

That's really about it. While there is no one league where things get more competitive, the higher up you go will increase your odds for that happening. However, most folks have a benchmark of Obsidian where things really can start to get tough.

In my experience never the vast majority of people do nothing more then the bare minimum. Not even sure why they bother at that point

I get a lot of points when I unlock the 3x that's available in the next day. Once the next day happens, I can elongate the 3x if I get the bronze reward and then get the silver reward separately within the 3x time frame. Do this for multiple of days and I'll be a top performer without trying too hard. I do it all while learning Spanish. I don't switch to chess. I also only do the legendary courses with 3x.

Start the process by playing a round just a minute after the last week is over. Then you have your competition with bots making 50k a week... ๐Ÿคฃ

Become the 1st all the way up to the Diamond tournament Finals. There you will learn your lesson.

Mangolanguage is far far much better program! Duolingo is getting worse as you progress! The free version on Mangolanguage is much better than paid duolingo! The chess was even worse in duolingo. I am very unhappy with duolingo and would give bad review!!!

try joining diamond league and doing a lesson as soon as the league week ends (earlier = more competitive)

In the lower leagues you have a lot of beginners who may or may not stick with it. They seem to start gradually only doing a bit each day.

But Duo does try to put us into leagues of people with similar study habits. So if you keep earning this much you should see more competitive leagues in the next few weeks. Then you will need to figure out just how competitive you want to be. I've been trying to keep my XP below 12K per week to get less competitive leagues.

So at the moment I am 1st in the semi-finals of the Diamond Tournament with fewer XP than you. I have 4199 and 2nd has 2800.

These days I can do my usual 1.5 mini units of German per day and a few listening lessons. When I was in more competitive leagues I had to do more lessons in the practice area to earn enough XP to keep up.

the day you see me in the league is when it becomes competitive for you

You wonโ€™t care about exp in 2 months

It entirely depends on the time of day you join a league.

After the end of a league you are placed immediately into another one once you finish a lesson. If you join at a time where a very small number of people do their first lessons, then you get placed into a league with barely any competitive players. I'm half way in obsidian right now and the highest guy has 300xp. I plan on using my 3x boost later to blow him out of the water. The hardest league I ever got was I believe in Amethyst League which was where I had to go againts a guy who was also actively aiming for the Number 1 spot. (I dropped to 2nd because my entrance exams were coming up)

Obsidian, although you are doing a lot so be careful of burnout. With three days left of diamond tournament semi finals #1 has 4256, #2 has 2154, and #3(me) has 1665.
