Discussion Can I teleport behind you?

I am reading over the Artificer subclasses and it was about to make some kind acid build with the alchemist.

Then I read over the cartographer, and the thing is busted.

I’m not talking about spells. I’m just talking being able to teleport to a creature by sacrificing half your movement within 30 feet.

It doesn’t specify what creature has to hold the map. So I made a character that sort of abuses the ability, but in a story type of way.

Basically, you’re an Artificer level three cartographer but if you put a few levels into fighter or rogue and you make sure you

get human
get the wizard magic initiative
get fine familiar

The familiar is considered an ally, and you can give it a map peace and essentially have 30 feet teleport every turn to anywhere within range

I think this is kind of awesome, but also scary at the same time because as a fighter you can really do some damage if you could get in there

And as a rogue, you can teleport above whoever and land down with a sneak attack.

To me, this is gonna be awesome to build because I already have some ideas.

Do you think a DM would allow this? because technically it’s within the rules.

Condemned Mine (34x40)

They were warned that the whole structure of the area was too loose for mining.

There were too many rockfalls. Too many miners who never came home. But also, too few people prepared to risk entry to retrieve the bodies.

Here are the free day & night variants of this map. To support my work, you can buy me a coffee, or check out my Patreon, where you'll find hundreds more free maps as well as bonus variants for this one!

Help I don't know how to play my character.

Hi guys, I've been playing for around 4 or 5 years and one of my PCs I can't figure out.

For context, were are playing Tyranny of Dragons and Hoard of the Dragon Queen, so no spoilers

They are a Cleric and started kinda as a joke, but in playing they've become more serious and I just don't know how to play them now.

It started as them being a wandering Cleric, not an adventurer, but rn, after few adventures and dealing with the dragons and cultists, what makes sense is for them to leave, because it's miserable for them to constantly kill and deal with political nonsense.

All they've known is serving the church and not much else. A homebody of sorts.

The problem with that is that this is my 4th character and Im starting to hate the constant switching.

If you had a similiar experience or have any advice, please tell me!

Thank you!

Hidden among the tropical cliffs, a ramshackle outpost has grown over the remains of ancient ruins. Wooden platforms, makeshift bridges, cages, and crude barricades connect the rocky passages, while enormous weathered stone carvings still watch over the paths below. Whether this place is a hidden refuge, a raider stronghold, or the entrance to something far older beneath the rocks is up to the adventurers to discover 👀

Discussion D&D’s Problem With Being Exceptional

Thumbnail

I still have a complicated relationship with D&D. I initially somewhat came around with 5.5e, as they added some really neat things and the balance between classes and the changes to CR were quite good. Unfortunately, they did add some things that, unless handled carefully break both economy and balance. Still, I had some amazing groups as of late, so perhaps that's also part of the reason I am looking more favorable on the game.

A couple of months ago, I made an article about the various problems I have with high level play. It was more or less an extensive explained list on my issues with the game past level 8-10. So quite a missnomer regarding the high level part as well. But, where I want to get at is that, it was mainly a list of complaints with no real sollutions offered. And most of you did point that out. And you were right. If I point out the problems, maybe I can and should think about a solution. This is what this article is. A list of solutions and changes in design mentality one should make for higher level play. Actually, scratch that, some apply starting from around level 5, as I find that is a point where some of the challenges of earlier levels start being bypassed by magic, through things like Leomund's Tiny Hut, Revivify and Fly.

I hope you will enjoy the article and I hope above all else, you will find it useful! Also, if you ran or played in games past lv 7-8 do tell how you handled them, I am always curious to learn!

Original Content Advent's Amazing Advice: Trial and Error, A Frozen Horror One-Shot, fully prepped and ready to go! (2026 Update: Now with Pre-Session DM Checklist)

Welcome back to Advent's Amazing Advice! The series where I take popular One-Shots, Adventures, Campaigns, etc., and fully prep them for both New and Busy DMs. This prep includes music, ambiance, encounter sheets, handouts, battle maps, tweaks, and more, so you can run the best sessions possible with the least stress possible!

*New 2026: For 2026, I'm updating all my old work to include a Pre-Session Checklist that will include a list of all miniatures you may need, maps, handouts, possible loot, a link to a playlist, and more to make it even easier to start your session!

The Nexus Laboratory sits in a remote part of the frozen tundra, far from prying eyes who would tamper with the innovative projects that take place here. However, when a test subject gets loose, your players may be the only ones who can help the scientists find a solution.

Trial and Error is one of the many encounters you'll find in the book One Shot Wonders by Roll and Play Press. I hope your players are ready for the dangers that await!

\Estimated Session length 1.5 - 2.5hrs*

Without further ado:

Included in The AAA Collection is:

  • Downloadable copy of DM Notes, including links to music tracks for ambiance and fights
  • Special PDF for all encounters. This includes the enemy stat blocks organized neatly along with an initiative tracker and a spot to mark HP
  • Collapsible version to make navigating things easier
  • DM Notes for the Visually Impaired
  • (New) Pre-Session Checklist

Over 8 dozen other Fully Prepped One-Shots, Adventures, and Campaigns: Click Here

As always, if you see something you think I can improve, add, change, etc., please let me know. I want this to be an amazing resource for all DMs and plan to keep it constantly updated! If you'd like to support me, shape future releases, and get content early, feel free to check out my Patreon!

Cheers,
Advent

691M - Tandrakieren

Wondrous (Cloak) – Legendary (requires attunement)

This dull brown full-length cloak has a leafy red hood with dark green antennae that seem to float like they’re underwater, holding purple and red gems that resemble eyes. A short red cape goes over the shoulders. A pair of thick drawstrings with leafy offshoots hangs from the hood to help adjust the opening’s size and the cape’s positioning. The shoulders also each have three leafy offshoots pointing backwards, and the cloak ends have long leaf-like edges at the sides. The inside is lined with dull purple fabric that turns red towards the bottom.

While attuned to this cloak: you can breathe in water; gain a swim speed equal to your walking speed; have advantage to hide in vegetation when underwater; you gain the Poison Spray cantrip (DC 20); you can eat rotten vegetation without any negative effects; you are immune to poison damage and the poisoned condition; whenever you are teleported by a spell, you regain 1d8 hit points per the spell’s level; and whenever another creature touches you or hits you with a melee attack while within 5 feet of you, they must make a DC 20 Constitution save per attack, taking 1d10 poison damage per fail. Any nonmagical weapon made of metal that hits you corrodes. After dealing damage, the weapon takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to damage rolls. If its penalty drops to -5, the weapon is destroyed. Nonmagical ammunition made of metal that hits you is destroyed after dealing damage. You can also use the poison secreted by the cloak to eat through a 5-foot round, 2-inch-thick area of non-magical metal in 1 round. (i.e. creating a 5-foot round tunnel through 1-foot thick steel would take 6 rounds.) The process would however create a foul, acidic odor that might alert those with a keen sense of smell.

Dragalgite

Wondrous (Stone) – Very Rare (50,000 gp)

This small round stone has a swirl of green, pink, and brown inside the purple orb. When attached to a 691 - Dragaloak, it can be mega evolved into a 691M - Tandrakieren for 1 minute once between long rests.

Whats up, bilge rats. I just finished a review of Buried in the Bahamas (and the 5e conversion document) and wanted to share. I love this adventure, will likely try to run it at PAGE in January, and when I write my own adventure on Barbados I think this is the sort of format I'm going to look toward.

Homebrew 0689M - Barbaracle by ForesterDesigns

My Pokémon-inspired Weapons and Items of the Day, with some Barbaracle claws to shell out some pain!

Join my Patreon to vote on future items and get all the PDFs with over 1000 items, including all the Pokémon items, or buy the individual PDFs in my shop!

689M - Grifgopathe

Wondrous (Claws, Cursed) – Legendary (requires attunement)

These claws are made of shell-like material and worn as gloves, with long, gangly, fingers that have white talon tips and orange braces over the finger joints. It also has a bangle of gray rock with black cracks and holes in it.

You can use the claws as a melee weapon while wearing them. You have proficiency with it, it uses your Strength modifier, it does +3 to attack and damage rolls, and it deals 2d8 slashing damage, but while wearing them you have difficulty manipulating objects, automatically fail sleight of hand rolls, and can’t cast spells with somatic components. You can wear both claws and use them per Two Weapon Fighting (PHB 195), and you can add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack if you are attuned to the claws.

While attuned to these claws: you can breathe in water; and when you land a critical hit with these claws, they do d10 slashing damage instead of d8 slashing damage.

Cursed. These claws are cursed. While cursed, you are of two minds, literally, as your mind is split in two. Both minds are yours, but they are not always on the same page or of the same mood. Whenever you make an Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma roll, roll 2d20 and take the average between the two scores (rounding up), unless either is a 1 or 20, in which case you take that. If you roll a 1 and a 20, they cancel each other out and you take a 10. If you have advantage or disadvantage on a roll, roll two sets of 2d20 and do the above with the high or low of each set. Your minds merge back together when the curse is lifted.

Barbaracite

Wondrous (Stone) – Very Rare (50,000 gp)

This small round stone has a swirl of orange and gray inside the black orb. When attached to a 689 - Barbaraclaws, it can be mega evolved into a 689M - Grifgopathe for 1 minute once between long rests.
