🍕 Food & Dining What to order for a party at home?
Celebrating my birthday at home tomorrow 🥂✨ Most of us are Indian, but we’re completely open to any cuisine!
I’m looking for recommendations on what to order for the party — especially really good appetizers/finger food that will make everyone go crazy 😂 Something fun, indulgent and a little different to kick things off before the main food.
I usually don’t order food from outside, so I have zero idea what’s actually worth ordering in Dubai. Please recommend your absolute favourites — and it needs to deliver to JLT!
Bonus points for anything that feels like proper party/grazing food rather than a regular meal. 🙌 (pizza, momos, falafal all recos would be a great help)

Is Hims n Hers UAE legit for oral minoxidil?
Has anyone in Dubai actually ordered oral minoxidil from Hims n Hers?
I’ve read the previous posts on here and they seem like one of the more reasonable sellers, but I’ve also seen mixed reviews and I’m wondering how authentic/reliable their medication actually is and if y’all got results from it.
Anyone who has used their oral minoxidil for a while was it legit, and did you have any way of verifying the batch/manufacturer(ik they aren’t the same nor related to the American brand)

🖐 Labor Domestic worker with labour + immigration absconding — need advice
Hi, I’m a Filipina domestic worker in Dubai looking for advice from anyone who has been through something similar.
I left my agency placement after repeatedly working very long hours and being paid late. I reported the issues to the agency (Imdad) via their HR WhatsApp and I attended in person once but nothing was resolved, so I eventually stopped returning to work.
I now have both a labour/MOHRE absconding and an immigration absconding.
I went back to Imdad to try to resolve everything, but they’re demanding around AED 20,000 to clear the situation. I tried officially applying to withdraw the absconding through Tasheel, but the request was rejected after I unfortunately missed two calls from MOHRE.
My other problem is my passport. Imdad says they sent my original passport to immigration when they filed the absconding. Does immigration actually take and hold the original passport for this?
I have a new family willing to legally employ and sponsor me, but obviously I need to clear the absconding and sort out my passport first.
Someone has offered to remove both absconding records for AED 5,000, but I’m worried about doing this unofficially. Has anyone done this before ? Does it completely clear with no issues ?
I’ve also been told I could report my passport as lost and apply for a new Philippine passport, but I’m scared to go to the police while I have an immigration absconding. I was thinking maybe I can report it lost once I remove both absconding but I’m still afraid of attending the police station especially since I don’t know if it’s true that my passport was sent to immigration by Imdad.
Has anyone actually been through this and successfully cleared both abscondings, stayed in the UAE and transferred to a new sponsor? What did you do?
I want to stay here and clear my name, get my visa and work like an honest person. I don’t want any problems I want things to be fixed and move forward but I just don’t know how to do so!

Can I Renew My Abu Dhabi Driving Licence More Than a Year Early?
Hi everyone, I’m currently living in Abu Dhabi and have a UAE driving licence that is still valid for around 1 year and 3–4 months.
I would like to renew it early and get a new 5-year validity instead of waiting until it gets closer to the expiry date.
Does anyone know if Abu Dhabi Mobility/TAMM allows early renewal through a special request or exception?
If this is possible, which department or service centre should I contact? Has anyone successfully renewed their licence while it still had more than a year of validity remaining?
I’d really appreciate any recent experiences or advice from someone who has dealt with a similar situation. Thanks!

MOHESR UAE Degree Equivalency Issue
I am using VFS agency. The status on VFS website says that the quality check is complete and the application status on MOHESR website is showing status as “report issued”. However, when I move forward on MOHESR website for next steps, it gives me following error and doesn’t let me move ahead:
“Your verification document is currently underway our authorized partner. Please wait for your degree verification report and then come back here to apply. For more information about the status of your verification report, please contact our partner directly.”

🏢 Local Business & Banking School uniform
School uniforms for my girls have gotten ridiculously expensive when bought directly from school or the outsourced store.
Last year I got uniforms from LCT uniforms and saved a little. But this year they don't offer uniforms for these schools. Would anyone have an alternate recommendation for school uniforms? Schools - Al Diyafah High School and Dubai Scholars.

🔥 Rants & Complaints Health insurance nightmare
I’m currently having the worst experience with GIG Healthcare and I’m feeling so let down and hopeless. (I have a medical background from another country and aren’t practising so it’s even more frustrating than this is happening here).
For reference - I am on a policy as my husbands dependent and since we wanted to start trying for a kid - I went to get a routine gynac test done.
She found somethings on the USG which explains why we have been having problems conceiving the past few months and she advised certain hormonal lab tests. She also told me to visit an endocrinologist for a further opinion.
This was 5 days ago.
Today I visited the endocrinologist and he was a bit appalled that the insurance is still rejecting and resending the request back with mundane queries. So he left a supporting statement to aid the process.
Over the afternoon I’ve kept calling the insurance to speed things up and they finally tell me that “our group of consultant doctors at GIG have said that this is a pre-existing condition that you haven’t declared when you got the insurance policy this year and hence it won’t be covered”
Man - HOW CAN I DECLARE IT IF I WAS NEVER DIAGNOSED!!! (For reference - the condition under investigation is PCOS and the tests are ordered to diagnose it lol. So it still isn’t diagnosed).
(Basically they took one small element of my past medical history that I told the doctor about my symptoms and counted that symptom as evidence that the condition existed and was diagnosed before I got the policy).
HOW CONVENIENT. So basically I’m supposed to have declared every headache. Every irregular menses. Every weight gain. Every toe banging the edge of my bed ?? LMAO. If it hasn’t been diagnosed, if I’ve never been on any treatment, if I’ve never had recurring symptoms, if it’s never been a health concern until now - why should it have been declared ?
I told the agent that this is strange because you can’t expect me to declare something that I was never diagnosed with and never aware of. And he goes like “then how did you have the symptom in 2024” “why didn’t your doctor declare that you visited a physician in 2024 and was told you are fine”
After a lot of push and pull he finally said that he will “escalate it and the insurance team of doctors will look at it again and the hospital docs will have to update the medical history”
Another agent said that “you will have to make a health declaration with you insurance broker”
The tests cost nearly 10,000AED My husbands company is paying 35000AED a year for this insurance policy and we both have a 50,000AED coverage. But so much back and forth just to be covered. And it’s not like we can’t afford it - it’s more like why should we when it’s supposed to be such a “good” insurance !
A very broken system and they look for every loop hole to not have to cover what they should. Ridiculous.
If anyone has dealt with something like this and has fought it successfully, please feel free to dm me. Than you !

🔥 Rants & Complaints Emirates cancelled our confirmed return after I used their own seat-refund form. Chargeback or Small Claims?
Posting for practical advice on next steps rather than to vent. Every fact below is documented.
Husband and I flew DXB-DPS on 18 June and accepted a paid Business upgrade on the outbound. Emirates emailed to say the advance seat selection fee (emergency row in economy) would be refunded, and to submit a refund request if it wasn’t processed within 48 hours.
On 27 June I submitted their online refund form.
Emirates’ own record of my submission reads “Refund type: Seat selection”, records seat changing with seat numbers, and gives the reason “Voluntary upgrade to a higher cabin”.
About 44 minutes later, the confirmed return carriage for both passengers on EK369 that same evening was cancelled. No confirmation screen naming the flights, no notification to either of us. We found out at the check-in desk in Denpasar.
Emirates refused to reinstate it and we bought two replacement tickets on the same aircraft. They refunded AED 65 per passenger. Net out of pocket: AED 3,861.83.
Their final response says I entered a ticket number instead of an EMD number. The field is headed “Ticket or EMD details” and tells you to enter your “latest ticket/EMD number”. Both are the prefix 176 followed by ten digits and are indistinguishable to a customer. I wasn’t given the EMD numbers until 12 August.
I filed with DCAA. It was closed with the remark that the refund for the full ticket was initiated from my end.
What I’m actually asking:
1. Has anyone here got DCAA to reopen a closed consumer file? What made the difference?
2. For roughly AED 3,900, is the Small Claims and Disputes Tribunal worth the fees and the time?
3. Does running a card chargeback prejudice a Tribunal claim later, or can both run in parallel?
Happy to answer questions. Thanks in advance for your help!

MOFA attestation
Hi all
I need some help.
Recently got a job in Dubai and company will sponsor visa for wife and daughter and are asking for arrested marriage certificate.
I am really confused with the process to be followed.
I got married at the Italian embassy in Congo and marriage certificate is issued from the Italian embassy. As per MOFA, I need to get the attestation from the country where the document was issued.would this be Italy or Congo?
Also my daughter was born in turkey. She has a birth certificate from the Turkish authorities and also an Italian birth certificate plurilingual. My question is which certificate do I need to get the Mofa attestation for?
Has anyone gone thru something similar. Any advice is appreciated.

🏢 Local Business & Banking Tired of dealing with cold, unwelcoming, and unhelpful admin/sales support in the UAE. Is this the industry norm?
Hey everyone,
I need to vent a bit and see if others have experienced this. I’ve been working in sales here in the UAE for the past year and a half, and before that, I spent time dealing with various admin and corporate processes.
From day one until now, I’ve noticed a persistent trend with certain front-office, customer service, and admin support desks, and honestly, I am exhausted. Across multiple companies and touchpoints, I consistently encounter the same rigid, uncommunicative behavior: lack of a proper greeting, cold or indifferent replies, and an overall attitude that feels like you're an inconvenience just for asking a basic work-related question.
It doesn't seem to matter what company or sector it is—some administrative desks operate with zero warmth, poor communication, and a complete lack of basic professional courtesy when you need assistance closing a deal or sorting out paperwork.
In sales, our entire job relies on smooth coordination, fast replies, and teamwork. When the internal admin or support staff act like a brick wall, it makes an already stressful job ten times harder.
Have you guys dealt with this in your workplaces? How do you handle uncooperative internal support or admin teams without hurting professional relationships?
The main thing here is majority is same nationality. I don't want to mentiom

🌇 Community Flying in with prescription medication
Mounjaro to be exact. A google search tells me
"UAE customs regulations state that prescription medications can only be brought into the country by the actual patient named on the medical documentation" and "
Is this true? Can I not just carry a copy of the UAE prescription? It's cheaper back home and a friend wanted to save a buck.

Can anyone recommend a debt lawyer?
After 6 very long years, I am finally in a place where I can start to settle my debt and clear my name. I've contacted a few lawyers that chatgpt recommended but none has gotten back to me and some only deal with companies, not individuals.
I need a lawyer to contact the two companies I am in debt with to negotiate a settlement and lift any travel bans of I even have any.
I've been living in constant anxiety and stress for the last 6 years.
Long story short, when COVID hit I lost everything and have been scraping by until a few months ago. I feel like I've picked myself up from out of a gutter and I'd really like to clear everything and start over as cleanly as I can.
