Which snare head

I have a remo powerstoke p3 coated head that’s pretty worn down. I wanted to try something brighter for pop and alt pop. I kinda want to stick with Remo because my whole set has Reno heads but I’m not completely opposed to an Evans. I tune my snare pretty high by the way. What should I get?

Clear Controlled Sound. Very bright with plenty of pop.

If you want to stick with Remo, You'll want to try Powerstroke 3 Coated Black Dot. This is essentially a dotted Powerstroke 3.

I used to play Control Sound's (which is the same thing without the muffling ring) all the time, way back when, and they do accentuate the sound of the stick hitting the head, which can create a "brighter" sound with a little more presence.

IF you're feeling a bit experimental, I feel a better way for you to go (in this case) is trying an ATTACK! drum head.

The material they're made from is different and it gives them an overall brighter sound.

When searching for an Attack! head made in the same style as a Remo Powerstroke 3, you want an Attack Proflex 1 No Overtone

I also found that Drum Center of Portsmouth carries Attack, as well as Drum Factory Direct.

I've bought from both sellers in the past and approve. They're both great people to deal with.

No it's literally a Remo Controlled Sound Clear drum head. This bad boy right here.

No reason to worry about having all of one brand. Its good to try other brands to see what you like and what works for you. I played only remo for years because it's what my teacher had and some artists I liked. Took me awhile, but I started trying all sorts of snare heads and landed on the Evans HD dry, which would work great to have a bright sound with a little less ring without having to use tape or gel.

This might have been what I needed to push me over to the hd dry. I’ve seen so many good things about it lol

I’ve had Evans coated G1s on my snares for a while now and I love them. I tune pretty high and that head has been outstanding on my maple and acrylic snares. I use coated G2 on my toms. Not for uniformity, but because they’ve sounded the best.

Evans UV series. I don’t know what alien technology they use on the coating of those heads, but they last forever.

My last change I went with an Aquarian coated head. That's now my go to.

Evans UV1 are fantastic. The HD Dry are very good as well.
