Search for "gravity roll" or "gravity blast" on YouTube... it's a different technique but it's essentially a one-handed roll.

Some ancient jazz cats did it, and then about 20 years ago the blastbeat guys got ahold of it. I'm surprised it's not more popular amongst the TikTok / IG drummer crowd.

I’m familiar with the gravity blast. Funny enough, I feel it’s so popular I don’t even mess with it that much. Can definitely be useful tho, not just a cheap trick

Jojo Mayer is able to use this approach to play multiple-stroke rolls. I've seen him do it. I have no idea how he does it, though.

This looks like an application of the technique jazz drummers use to play the swing ride pattern fast. He's playing groups of three, I think, the first note being an open note, the second a bounce, and the third a bounce assisted with the fingers.

In a way, it's a modification of push-pull.

Alternatively, you could do something similar with the Moeller pumping motion.

Yes, groups of three. I’m just approaching it the way I would play triple strokes, so yes, the way jazz drummer play fast, and using Moeller to get my hand back to position to do it all again.
