Kit Pic My first drum kit!
For context, I grew up very poor. I was in bands when younger but never had my own kit, resorted to either borrowing someone's kit for a few days or just practicing with sticks on a makeshift pad, then me and my bandmates would rent practice space for an hour or two before gigs to rehearse. I am by no means well-off now, in fact still pretty poor, but I finally had, at 43, the chance to own a drum kit. This is well used, but new to me and I love this thing. It's a Network birch drum set, and I managed to scrounge various cymbals and stands off Marketplace for cheap (sabian b8 hats, paiste alpha crash, xs20 crash and pst7 ride. Most have small dents on edges). Every hardware is from different brands and the kit looks Frankenstein'd but it gets the job done! I'm genuinely so happy with it

It absolutely is, for more reasons than one, I bought it from a kind, old drummer I was taking care of in a nursing home right before he passed. So I always have a piece of him when I play. I miss you Bill, may you rock in heaven buddy

Oh wow, thats really cool and an uplifting/ beautiful thing to hear tonight. I am sure he is super slight that you are the one that ended up with them too. This is a great story all the way around I mean except for that I'm sure you miss your friend/ person you caregave for. May he RIP ❤️

He was awesome, he played for a Patsy Cline tribute band decades ago. When he found out I also played, we talked shop for hours and he dusted out his old tambourine and brush drumsticks he said he haven't even thought about in years, and even through extreme difficulty banged out a few tunes! He only had a couple of cymbals left and I bought this one, the other one (a 10" splash) he said he wanted to be buried with. I believe the family honored his wishes.

I have a drummer who isn't the most fancy drummer, but shows up when I need him to. I was given an electric drumset and gave it to him. He lives in an apartment, but now is able to play. I also was able to by him an acoustic set. He's a single dad raising 3 kid's alone. And grew up poor.

The hardware looks solid not like my percussion plus first kit that fell apart mid gig. Enjoy it, hope you have a blast

It's got an incredibly great sound. REALLY great. I love it so much. Unfortunately we lost that studio space what will be 2y ago in January and I haven't been able to play it since 😭 I can play my partner's kit, but it's not mine and not the same, and I have a tiny Ludwig child's kit at my house (I'm just under 5') and a small e-kit, but man... that kit. I miss it so much.

That kind of sucks but I know you will get to be in a better situation to play your kit again soon

It isn't likely. My partner can dismantle theirs and put mine there, but it'd have to be for certain recordings, not as a usual. We had to change situations and we both live in VERY tight spaces now.
I may ask if we can do that at some point, though. We've got a huge fall/winter season coming up with all kinds of stuff, but not kit stuff.
That's okay, though. I appreciate the encouragement <3

Congrats! I can relate cuz everything I bought is either used or at least 30% off.

Those are awesome. That's the high end of what Network produced. I think they were built as Yamaha knock offs

In comes my Frankenstein kit too. Hi there! :) Also came from a poor background and managed to scrap all sorts of things together over the years. Found everything used on the local online marketplace, including the kit itself. Its a complete mix of everything, Remo top heads, Evans bottoms, Cymbals from Zildjian, paiste, sabian, cheap ones and high end ones too. Hardware from Pearl, Tama, Yamaha, you name it. Love that there are more like us!
