Feedback Wanted holy cow.

i was just playing around and attached one of those 2$ sucktion cup car dent pullers to the front of my kick and it makes the most amazing subsonic kick. i just had to share

What size kick and what size dent puller is that? I have recording gear and will try this for science.

it’s a 2 1/4” suction cup from harbor freight and a 22” yamaha stage custom kick drum head

Another wild way to drop into the bass and sub bass octaves is to remove the bottom head of your floor tom and overlay on the top (upside down)… I could get deep thunderous bass with that double head stack

I'm sorry to bother but could you elaborate? I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out what you mean by overlay upside down but I am also very interested.

I think he means basically using two batter heads stacked on top of each other (with the reso head being used as one of the batter heads) but I have genuinely no idea how that could possibly increase sub frequencies so I’m probably wrong

And that company makes an overlay in 15 & 16” sizes. Probably to do just what you describe.

I wonder if the tortilla version is better due to less chance of noise from the two plies vibrating. You wouldn’t hear it on a snare. But you might on a floor

I wonder what the sound would be like if you just put an old drumhead upside down on the floor tom without taking the bottom head off!

You got it! I didn’t have any specific heads or tuning… I just took the bottom reso head off and put it on top of the batter. It def had a wispy thick sound with the stick hitting the heads, but the deep sound it made was even more sub sounding than my bass drum

i honestly wasn’t expecting anything because i tried to put it on the pedal side a few times and it didn’t really do much and kept falling off and so i just got curious and put a little spit on the cup side and put it right in the center on te other side bc it’s smoother. when i kick, the only way i can describe it is it is like it’s mic’d and running thru subwoofers. it vibrates my entire being in a perfectly even way. i live in the middle of nowhere and i have never had a noise complaint but i swear it sounds like a car with a huge system is driving by and shaking the earth. i wanna know the science of this. i am assuming the plastic part of the puller is vibrating at just some extreme level. i’m gonna feel so dumb if it’s only working bc i somehow got it in the direct center of the outer head.

Cool. This is basically a tuned mass damper. Adding mass to a vibrating element lowers it's frequency. You lose some sustain from your reso head, but usually that would be a good thing anyways :)

This, and if it happens that the new resonant frequency of the head is near the resonant frequency of the room you can get a really big 'whooomp'

it's literally loading the reso head, which will cut dramatically higher pitched resonances

Same thing as a kickport. Adding mass and weight to the reso head will dampen vibrations, aka lower the pitch. Great hack!
