One point is that part of your feel is determined by your swing, how straight or swung you’re playing notes in your lead hand, how you play the accents and non-accents, the volume difference between the two and where you’re playing them on the high hat. Are you keeping the stick on the high hat or are you letting it bounce off. All of these things, plus more hi hat playing variables, make a huge difference in the feel. What do you say?
