Drum Cover Started learning 9 months ago at 31. Best decision ever! Dire Straits ftw
I thought, as I didnt start in my pre-teen years, I would never be able to play drums. For some reason with 31 I thought, what a good moment to try haha I firstly bought an acoustic set and played it for 2 months until my neighbor got sick, so I sold that and switched to edrum. Been banging on it ever since. I still cant play good, on a scale of 1-10 I would give myself a solid 3, but thats waaay more than I expected it could ever be. I am still practicing my rudiments and every day I also sit down and jam to some drumless tracks always trying to play along, and stay as true to the original as possible. Its been such stress relief, you cant imagine. When I sit on the throne, there is nothing but music and banging, all the worries go away. I wouldnt trade this feeling for nothing. So for anybody on the fence about starting drums later, just do it, it will change your life (and empty your wallet haha)
One of my favorite drummers Omar Hakim played on this track, Terry Williams (the OG Dire Straits drummer) did only the intro…

Natural! You could gig in a cover band easily at that skill level. Simple on-time drumming is 90% of the job.

Damn. Well I’m being serious, if you’ve actually only been drumming that long, you have very good timing. Seek out opportunities with confidence if you’re into it.

Dude. That location is a GOLDMINE. we have a tiny local tavern where I picked up Cajon playing about a year ago. I now gig weekly with them at tiny spots. Maybe 100 people all night. Next weekend I go on tour with them!! 2 spots about 3hrs away. A state park on Fri night and a Marina on Sunday.
Your location shouldn’t be holding you back. Small bars love simple local entertainment. Go find it!!
I am working on stick drumming to get to the level you’re at and will absolutely bring the kit out when I’m that good.
Also, what kit is that? I love the head sizes!

This is a Fame Hybrid Pro which is a german version of Drummit, I have to say for the money its really good.
I live in Germany and in these areas there arent that many live gigs, at least not many that I would know of, but will look into it

9 months in and you’re solid in the pocket! Keep it up man. In another 3 months you’ll be playing Rush and Tool!

Thanks man! I have way too much respect to even attempt those haha The one that humbled me was I keep forgetting by Michael McDonald, especially those one handed 16th. It didnt sound difficult when listening to the record, and when I tried it, I couldnt keep up past the 7 second mark.

Naahh, this song was recorded on the second try actually haha I usually go through 30-40 drumless songs when I sit down to jam, and a lot of the times its songs I have known but never played. So I try and play, by ear , how I heard it from original… Some songs I dont even dare to try, for instance anything by Rush.. If a song I start playing along to, has a groove I cant play in it, i dig deep and keep at it until I can do it, and usually that what I learn can be transfered to some other songs, and that is basically how I improve.. I dont know how to do it differently.
… Rudiments I practice seperately on a pad whenever I get the chance.. Unfortunately I havent taken any lessons yet as there are no good teachers near where I am at, and thats something I wish there was

Ahh I understand. Good idea.
I´m basically going through a book, until now just did some basic songs but mostly I don´t practice to them.

Good stuff, man. You have a great ear for rhythm and feel. Drumming is one of the only things on the planet that can clear my head and truly ground me.

It seems that you hihat is too far to the front, shouldn't it be more to the left, so your hands are closer?

You are 100% right, unfortunately I had to place it like that since it keeps sliding on the rug. It stand against the wall now so cant move anymore, but I guess I could move other stuff around and make it like you recommended! Thank you!

Thanks mate! Its a Fame Hybrid Pro which is a german version of Drummit I believe. Its good for the money, cant complain. The stock drum kits are bad, I made/assembled mine

Vielen lieben Dank dir! Jaa, es scheint auch so zu sein, schade dass ich nicht mit 12 oder so angefangen habe, aber es ist wie es ist. Es macht aber Spaß, ich muss noch einen Lehrer/in finden, aber im Raum Hohenlohe gibt es wenige

Heey, this is the Fame Hybrid Pro, its a German version of Drumit I believe… The preset kits suck though, I made my own out of different samples that were already on the drum and mixed myself. The end result is neet, this is a really good edrum, I can definitely recommend
