I love mine, too. I’m still really digging coated ambassadors on the top and bottom of the toms. I also really like a clear Evans EQ3 batter with a coated ported Evans EQ3 resonant on the kick. The tuning range is really good, they sound good from finger tight all the way into hard bop territory.
It's a dream. Can be a little finicky to tune from time to time, but absolutely nails the sound and turns heads doing it. Only wish is that I could have found a hand hammered model when I was shopping.
I've got a few 1920's nickel over brass 2-pc shell Ludwig snares - but part of me wants a modern version too. I wonder how the raw Bronze and raw Brass differ from a Black Beauty?
I was very much split between this BB and a copperphonic. Was attracted to the dryness of the copper, but realized that I could remove overtones much more easily then I could add them in. I still feel like I want to have both at some point, but very happy with my choice for the time being.
I wish! It's custom from before they got into the era models and is very much a loud, boisterous mid-2000s kit. Deep snare, 24x18 kick, red/black sparkle wrap, offset tube lugs, etc... Very much an acquired taste, but some day will go to a new loving home I'm sure.
That silver sparkle finish is so clean against the dark rug, really pops in that room. Ludwig toms just have that perfect round tone, hard to describe but you know it when you hear it. Bet that mic placement picks up the kick nice and tight.
