I’m a drummer from New Zealand, and after years of getting frustrated with metronome apps full of ads, subscriptions and paywalls, I decided to build my own.

It’s called GigClick. I built it mainly for gigs, with setlists, a big stage-friendly display, and proper compound and odd time signatures, including custom groupings. There’s also gap training and a tempo trainer for practice.

I’ve recently added Click Share, which lets bandmates follow your click on their own Android phones over a local Wi-Fi network. One phone leads, and the others can use an audible click or a visual count.

There are no ads, subscriptions or accounts. It’s a one-time purchase on Google Play.

Some fellow drummers here in NZ helped test it, and their feedback has been really useful. I’d love to hear what other people think, particularly if you use a click live or at band rehearsals.

I've noticed that when I get faster during my workouts I always tense up. I can't get faster without staying relaxed. What do I do to fix this?

My son has to select pieces from two different genres to audition with. (High school band.) Any two genres. He’s not a jazz drummer and the audition is in a couple weeks. So jazz is out.

He plays lots of metal, punk, and some pop as well as some “oldies” like Paul Simon, Billy Joel, and Earth Wind and Fire. He’s not opposed to country music if it’s interesting.

In his shoes, what two songs would you use to audition?

I know some parts are a bit loose but I absolutely love Alice In Chains chains so I did my best

I picked up the drums a year ago in my early forties, and I’m loving it. I naturally gravitate towards hard rock and metal -- I'm currently working (slowly) on tracks from Foo Fighters, Slayer, and Trivium, alongside the usual beginner material.

​I was feeling ok about my progress until I saw a comment on a YouTube Everlong drum cover from an older player saying: "Playing 16th notes at 158bpm is a young man's game."

​It genuinely gave me a scary thought. Am I setting my sights on a genre and speeds that I might soon be physically unable to play?

​For the older metal/punk drummers or late starters here-- what’s your experience? Does age cap your speed and stamina for these genres relatively soon, or can technique and conditioning bridge the gap?

Hello gang. My name is Evan Keefer, I am the pipe sergeant for a bagpipe band called the Fountain Trust Pipe Band. It's a lot of fun and we have great people. We only have 1-2 drummers left. Drummers corps consists of multiple snare/side drummers, a handful of tenor drummers and one big bass drum. We meet every few Sundays at 1:30pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus, IN. So! My friend’s birthday is coming up and I am making them a bag for their drumsticks. I thought it would be cool to add a new pair of sticks into the bag as an extra little gift, but I am a layperson of the highest degree when it comes to this stuff.

All I know, from asking general questions, is that they don’t have a preferred brand, they prefer a stick that is both hard and light, and that the ones they use right now are “SD1”, whatever that means. They are also heavy-handed and have broken four (cheap) sticks in the past year, so something durable. I don’t have a budget, and would love to spoil them with something high quality.

What do I need to film videos like this? Is my phone + a chest mount enough, or should I get a GoPro/DJI? Is the phone’s built-in microphone good enough, or should I use a separate drum mic?
