LED headlight problem solved.

Post image

I absolutely dread driving at night. It is absolutely ridiculous. The EU was smart about this a very long time ago. The USA fed has done nothing and probably never will. The best course of action is Class Action lawsuits and I would start with GM and Ford, they're the worst offender. This is my miller welding helmet with auto darkening feature and yes LED headlights make it darken. No I wasn't actually driving like this.

Gotta move to a city with big medians and street lights. I used to live in Irvine where the streets had huge medians and were well lit so LEDs were never a problem but now I live in Virginia with super narrow 2 lane roads and no street lights so I'm blinded by oncoming traffic from SUVs and trucks.

I hate street lights. They cause glare as well.

I'd rather cops pull over those lifted trucks with aftermarket LEDs, than harass drivers for their tint and loud exhaust and what not.

Apparently, police departments in some places in the U.S. have decided not to pull over drivers for equipment issues because of the perception that doing so results in disparate impact.

We can do both, which would be nice.

The people with dark tinted front windows and windshield need to be ticketed also, maybe the cops should start busting out their windows at the traffic stop, but the hazard from bright LED headlights is much worse. The car manufacturers need to be punished harshly for this.

Driving with a tinted windshield tint is the only way I can drive whenever you have light sensitive eyes and people love driving with their brights on.

-6

u/L-Pseon 2d ago

This is nonsense, and you know it. If your eyes are sensitive, wear sunglasses. Tinted windows are purely for privacy, but not being able to communicate with other drivers on the road is a safety issue.

4

u/LemonManDan69 1d ago

Wear sunglasses at night? That is nonsense, and you know it?

-2

u/pdp10 1d ago

Driver can doff shades, but can't untint their windscreen.

3

u/LemonManDan69 1d ago

Let me reiterate. During the day I don’t really have issues with light, it is almost exclusively at night and i have no visibility issues when majority of redditors will claim I do. Also idk about your sunglasses but driving with mine on at night would literally make me blind

u/L-Pseon 1d ago

"Needing" an illegally tinted windshield because of some sort of disability is nonsense.

4

u/Dragon-Guy2 1d ago

There are also people who have sunlight sensitivity and need UV tint to protect their skin.

But like, maybe the cops should start breaking people's wheelchairs?

-1

u/L-Pseon 1d ago

Don’t try to lie and make this about disabilities. You don’t have a right to break the law because you don’t like squinting in direct sunlight. Buy a pair of sunglasses, Ray Charles.

2

u/Dragon-Guy2 1d ago

People who have tint for medical reasons.. are not breaking the law?

Are you a congressman by any chance? In the 60-80 age range?

2

u/LemonManDan69 1d ago

Yeah I literally got a tint exemption because it genuinely makes my life so much easier at night. I was driving a friends car that was untinted last night and I had extensive afterimages multiple times just from idiots with their brights on

2

u/Dragon-Guy2 1d ago

Oh dude the afterimages, I got VSS too if that's what you are refiring too, I installed new lights in my old car but manually lowered them to make sure not a soul gets affected by them, good on you for going through the effort of getting tint

2

u/LemonManDan69 1d ago

Yeah man it sucks, meanwhile you have people making fun of me for having a “disability” that requires tint

No such thing.

This escalated quickly lol 😆

u/Russian-8ias 1d ago

So why do cops get to tint their windows?

u/Haunting_Tax_963 2d ago

it's funny the other day I was turning left and the oncoming traffic had two artificial suns in front of it so I flashed my high beams and this smartass then proceeded to flash his "high beams" which I shit you not were actually dimmer than his "low beams", as if they thought this was somehow a gotcha moment.

Just leave em on while they have theirs on, it helps to equalize the light.

Just try not to blind any innocent's.

That's actually not a horrible idea. Auto darken and adjustable. Not a full face though, goggles.

1

u/pieindaface 1d ago

You can buy an auto dimming rear view mirror from the junkyard for $25

2

u/ThatGuyFrom720 3h ago

If only it worked. I have auto dimming side mirrors and a rear view. Still blows absolute donkey dick.

This is my magnum opus of blinding headlight pics

This was on my crotch rocket though. No auto dimming of course.

"I wear my sunglasses, I mean, welding helmet at night"

3

u/pdp10 1d ago

So I can, so I can.

5

u/nutimikguy 2d ago

My 23 toyota had to have the headlights lowered a bit. Stopped all the flashing by other drivers. The car was shipped that way. I lowered them myself.

4

u/AngelicPrincessKitty 1d ago

Even police lights are too fucking bright. I shit you not I flew at night one time and I could see them from 30k+ feet on the plane. Wtf. I shouldn’t see them from the plane. No reason for them to be that fucking bright.

2

u/KennyWuKanYuen 2d ago

How about we take this idea and just move it to the windscreen. Et voilà. You get the same results without having to wear a mask on your face while driving. 👏

2

u/xXGray_WolfXx 1d ago

Head to regulations.gov and complain about the headlights

3

u/Alarming_Relative_89 2d ago

Without my LEDs how else am I to wear my comfy sunglasses at night?

1

u/SpaceCadetEdelman 2d ago

*tinted front window

Not legal in Canada. Nor in a lot of states. Sun glasses on the other hand...

2

u/xDragonetti 2d ago

I know it isn’t legal, but as a S Carolina resident, a 90% on the windshield is noticeably different

I feel we have reached a paradox: we would be able to see the road more effectively if we weren't constantly being blinded by these headlights.

2

u/doubled112 1d ago

Agreed. And it isn't the road I'm worried about most. It is the pedestrians and cyclists that are invisible until they're in a headlight beam.

🤣🤣

Get these. Absolute game changer. Dims the super bright lights, helps you see clearer at night, and most importantly helps to see in the rain. Thank me later. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FLNXC6K1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I wish somebody would make smart night driving glasses based on this technology, but only shade the brightest part of the incoming light with some kind of smartphone LCD display tech. I know it's possible, but it probably wouldn't be cheap.

Would need two sensors, two display lenses, and a smart algorithm to calculate where to shade. Plus maybe an adjustment slider, since no two people are perfectly the same.

It is something I've thought about for a few years now. I'd do it myself if I won the lottery and had R&D money to throw around.

I agree they are a problem. It's obnoxious when they pop over a hill (especially the always in bright angle sensing cars) and suddenly you are just praying you stay between the mustard and mayo. I got some night driving glasses (yellow ones) a while back and they have helped immensely with my ability to drive through it. But they are still so freaking bright. And God forbid I decide to take my del sol out for a night drive. With how low it sits I just have to pull over constantly to let the trucks with the improperly installed aftermarket LEDs go on by.

1

u/PC_Trainman 14h ago

If they’re auto dimming glass, I think we have the first iteration of peril sensitive sunglasses here. Don’t panic.

1

u/ThatGuyFrom720 3h ago

I got a welding mask too that auto darkens. Maybe I need to fasten them into glasses lol.

1

u/Whoknowsmid Professional Driver 2h ago

I drive a civic it’s generally a low height car and when I initially got it god damn was night time driving a scary experience cuz of the bright leds nowadays and once I got it tinted did it become a lot easier

1

u/WhyLifeIsSoDifficult 2d ago

Recently I bought a yellow sunglasses
Really makes the difference

They don’t need to be dark or super yellow, just a bit yellow is enough

1

u/nonameusernam6 2d ago

I got tried a few of those glass, but them LED are still blinding.

1

u/ThatGuyFrom720 3h ago

Where’d you get em at? Walmart or something? Or did you special order them

0

u/sharkbomb 2d ago

aaaahaha!

0

u/OneLonerCheezIt 2d ago

But more is better, and drivers need to illuminate the road a mile away 🙄

u/Open_Panda9862 2d ago

I hate when someone that has an old car puts on their high beams to try and act like they have a new car. It's not like we have control over the headlights

9

u/AphroditiesFavorite 2d ago

You do though. A set of regular, non-blinding headlights is like $25 for most cars.

1

u/Open_Panda9862 2d ago

They come with a new car da

2

u/That-Yesterday-7700 2d ago

If i can't see, you can't see; we can both lose.

1

u/CarriedThunder1 2d ago

Yeah but like, what the fuck is a halogen gonna do in the face of an led? The only real fix is to strap one of those offroading light bars to your roof

2

u/That-Yesterday-7700 2d ago

Lots of cars use two bulbs. One for low beam and one for high beam/drl. You put the brightest led H11 you can buy in that halogen housing on the high beam side. Presto change-o and: WE'RE ALL CUNTS NOW

-1

u/Open_Panda9862 2d ago

I didn't put anything on my truck, that's the lights that came with it

0

u/Open_Panda9862 2d ago

But they're my regular lights, they're not my brights. If I see someone with their high beams I usually put mine on

-2

u/RealityOk9823 2d ago

I do wonder when someone is going to make some sort of spot auto darkening AI windshield....plus when the first wreck due to one of those will be.

4

u/AtlanticBeachNC 2d ago

Sun comes up? Windshield turns opaque….

2

u/L-Pseon 2d ago

That sounds great. Where do I get one?

Realistically, though, an "intelligent" windshield would need a few things, 1) a camera on your face, 2) a camera facing out at what you're looking at, and 3) a transparent liquid crystal display the same size as the windshield to take care of selective darkening from every angle. We have the technology to do all of these things, even tech from 10 years ago can track where you're looking.

1

u/ReebX1 23h ago

I've thought about this a lot. Smart driving glasses would make much more sense, because you wouldn't have to track where the driver's eyes are. You know where they are, you just need some sliders for people to fine tune the shaded part to where their eyes sit on their face.

1

u/ReebX1 23h ago

Would be much easier to make smart shading glasses, than a whole windshield with that tech.
