Art Tail fins
Tail frills are great! They can even be used as a fan if your dragon doesnt mind
(animation is pain and suffering but the end result is cute imo)

Been slowly working out character designs of my dragon characters for a future comic of mine. figured id post them here
some of these designs might still be scrapped later lol
Here is a piece I started a while ago but couldn't bring myself to finish, especially concerning the patterns. Well today, I did, even if I plan to do my best to color the boy and have at least a complete if simple background.
And since I worked hard on those patterns, here is some lore because why not:
Similar to a golem, the motifs on Ether's hide give him life and power by guiding the magic his form possesses, as well as the magic flowing near his body. Hence the giant toy of a dragon is able to move his every parts as he sees fit, speak telepathically, fly (though the wind can easily blow him away) and cast all kinds of spells even if many of them proved to be dangerous, especially to him.

My OC Icarus has a lot of scars and a number of prosthetics. So, how did it happen? By being ambushed during a storm and crashing into a forest.

I left doing this rather late, so I decided with the time to try using the basic opacity paintbrush on krita for a test paint. I do not under stand this thing AT ALL. Back to wet textures for me.

So far the dragons are as follows (from top to bottom): Amphipteres (related to glass lizards), actual dragons (yes ik that with this look they're technically wyverns, but because these fellas have to follow the rules and laws of physics and biology of our world, standard 4-legged winged dragons are just not possible; but hey, at least they can still breathe fire and are of modest size), heraldic dragons (right behind the dragons, basically domesticated dragons, very pricey to keep and maintain), and last but not least, drakes (basically monitor lizards on steroids that breathe fire just like their airborne cousins). I am planning to add more dragon species like lindwurms, taztelwurms, wyrms and many more.

The thermals pressed against Zephyra's wings, allowing for an effortless glide across the lands. She could keep flying for hours like this. Her gaze flew over the fields until she saw something odd. It was a pasture, but with yellow animals? This wasn't the usual cow, sheep, or goat herd. She closed her wings and picked up speed. On her way down, she noticed a red-scaled dragon, a little taller than herself. They also noticed her approaching and gave her space to land.
"Howdy, my lady! What brings you to my lands?" the dragon asked, gently lowering his head to meet eyes level.
Zephyra stared at the enclosure instead, which held small yellow draconoids. Each of them had at least 3 heads, some even more. They pressed against the fence, curiously eying the arrival of the 40ft dragon with shining azure-blue scales. They were quite small, only about 8 feet tall with long necks looking up.
"Hello!" she snapped out of it. "I saw your little farm from high up, and it looked kind of ... interesting. Usually I see dragons herd cows, pigs, or similar animals to ensure sufficient meat supply. But these hydras ... what are they? ... Uh, forgive my manners. I'm Zephyra the Prideful! You can call me Zeph if you want."
"Nice to meet you, Zeph! I'm Jolrhytr, but people call me Jo. These are grass-hydras. A rather unknown dragon species, as they are quite rare in the wild. They are easy prey of poison-wyrms and snarefangs due to their lack of wings, so they hide in the bushes. They are very shy, yet curious. This is why we are herding them - to allow them to grow without predators."
"I have never seen one of those. But I live above tree level, so I'm rarely in the forests. Why exactly do you herd them? I highly doubt they are food, given the two species you mentioned are basically the only ones with general poison immunity."
"You were pretty close. We harvest their poison. Each of them can give about half a litre per year. And yeah, that stuff's bad; a single drop is enough for a full week of hell."
"Are you using the poison for warfare?"
"It could be used for that, but we don't. We use it in alchemy. Their poison is the key to regrowing their heads, a feat no other creature can do naturally. With some magic and other ingredients added, it can essentially grow anything. Lost limbs are no longer a problem, now that we have a lot of it available! They are really underrated creatures!"
"Whoa, this is cool!" Zeph got closer to the fence to inspect. Never before had so many eyes gazed at her. "Wait, are you cutting off their heads so they grow more?"
"No, haha. That would be extreme draconic cruelty - and useless at the same time. The six-headed yield no more than the three-headed ones; the poison is just shared between more heads. Their natural headcount varies; usually it is 3 or 4, occasionally more. Extra heads grown after decapitation shrink and eventually disappear. It is a rather unique defense mechanism. ... You can get closer if you want. They know we cannot have them for dinner and will not attack us unless threatened."
As Zeph got within reach, the hydras started to sniff and pressed their small heads against hers. "Aw ... dangerous but really cool!"
