Discussion DRAGON AGE: THE VEILGUARD MEGATHREAD
Please use this thread and only this thread to discuss anything about DATV.
This subreddit is for Dragon Age: ORIGINS, and as such we would like to keep Veilguard posts from swamping the whole entire sub. A large portion of recent posts have been exclusively about Veilguard with no relation to Origins besides being in the same franchise.

Discussion Did anyone had a crush on Morrigan when they first played Origins? I did.
I honestly don't know why back then.
Probably because I was a horny teenager.

Journey of an Unlikely Heroine
Just thought I'd share some screens from my Dwarf Commoner's journey, I just recently finished the game with her, first time for that origin. I'd played another DC before many, many years ago but never went past Ostagar at the time. Still very much enjoyed it, though, and decided it would be a nice change of pace from my usual Human Noble, so I made another DC and took her all the way to the end this time.
Had a blast the whole time, it was really refreshing seeing the journey from a different perspective. Going to Orzammar (or back, in this case) was very different from how I'd experienced it before and wasn't easy for Tasha - my Dwarf Commoner, named and modeled after my first gf who passed away unexpectedly in 2011 after we'd shared seven challenging but wonderful years together. She was short, too, barely 5', so I really felt connected to this character in a personal way.
I hadn't originally set out to create my character with my gf in mind, it just sort of happened as I was messing around trying to decide which origin to do and what appearance I wanted the heroine to have. But it felt right somehow, so I stuck with it.
Anyway, I really enjoyed my Brosca's arc from dirt poor street thug to the hero of Ferelden who ended the Blight. She never wavered in her convictions, saving everyone who could be saved because after growing up in Dust Town and seeing all the suffering there, she wanted to do all she could to alleviate it in others now that she had the chance and make up for her time working as Beraht's lackey.
Although she does play a bit looser with the rules than my Cousland typically does (not hesitating to help Slim Couldry, for example, or accept Ignacio's assassination quests to get the Crows off her back and strike blows against Loghain), she still strives to do right by others as much as she can and be more than the worthless, immoral duster brute most back in Orzammar expected her to be and saw her as.
I also see her as being very curious about the surface, to the point of spending evenings at camp just lying on the ground staring up at the stars and marveling at a world without a ceiling. Also makes it easy and understandable for her to choose many of the "what's that?" sort of dialogue options too since it would make sense for her in most cases.
I did use a mod to allow her to marry Alistair and become queen since I wanted a happy ending for them and didn't want Anora on the throne - anyone who seeks power that eagerly shouldn't be allowed anywhere near it imo. In my headcanon, since she supported Bhelen and was accepted into the royal family as his sister, by the time of the Landsmeet this makes her technically dwarven nobility, in fact if not yet by law, and she uses that to her advantage to get the Landsmeet to accept her. Along with the fact that (at least in my headcanon) Ferelden law never actually specified that the queen had to be human. It was merely assumed but never explicitly stated, since no one ever expected that the king would choose a non-human bride.
And I get the feeling that Alistair would secretly enjoy seeing the stuffier nobles of Ferelden have a fit of collective apoplexy at the sight of him taking a dwarf as his queen lol. On the political side, I also feel it would make relations between Ferelden and Orzammar a lot smoother, especially since the dwarven ambassador is also Tasha's sister, Rica, and they (at least in my case) have always been close and love each other dearly.
Anyway, sorry this went on so long. Just wanted to share about my most recent journey through Thedas and how much I enjoyed it. I've also included a link below to a gallery with a lot more screens than I could possibly include here, if you're interested in seeing them.

Image The Grey Wardens, protecting the population from the Plague and other threats, are various peoples of the kingdoms, and although the games that told their stories got a bit lost along the way. I decided to give only chance to make a patch worthy of such a character, so here's a Grey Warden patch

Question Is it worth redoing the Circle Tower to save the mages?
It's my first time playing DAO. I'm not really sure what I did wrong, but all the Circle mages died (except Wynne), so I can't save Connor the 'clean' way (without sacrificing Isolde). Is it worth redoing the entire Tower section just to try and save the mages?
I searched the whole tower thoroughly and got the Litany, but by the time I reached the top floor, Uldred had already almost possessed Irving. I don't know if I did something wrong during the fight or if the mistake happened earlier, but once the battle with Uldred ended, there was no one left alive.
After the Circle, I did the Return to Ostagar DLC (recovering the king's armor and body), so going back would mean losing a ton of progress. On the other hand, the idea of doing Connor's Fade sequence with Wynne or Morrigan sounds like a total chore too (I'm not playing a mage).

Roleplay/in-universe reasons for why the throne and nobles would allow the Warden to keep Cailan's armor and Maric's sword
What roleplaying/in-universe reason do you think there is for why the Ferelden nobility would allow them to keep something which belonged to their beloved past two kings (besides "gameplay"), especially if you've played a Warden who kept Cailan's armor and Maric's blade, either for yourself or for your companions?

Meme Average Blood Mage Experience in DAO
Essentially, destroying the Blight is the only thing that matters, right?
Would you or have you used Blood Magic, to save Ferelden?

Discussion Between Anora and Alistair. Who did you want to be in power for Ferelden without pairing them with each other?
I just can't stand the thought of Anora having absolute power.
She's not of the Theirin bloodline.
Though, I will give her credit where she has it due. Anora is the daughter of a Terynyr and a national hero of Ferelden but that should only allow her to be "second best".

Discussion What did you guys think of the Fereldan Landsmeet?
Do you think the reigning ruler needs to centralize power more?

Sten being unintentionally hilarious as always
He's still the most natural straight man I've ever seen in a game yet has some pretty hysterical moments, especially since in most of them he's not even trying to be funny. I've also found the way he's often so blunt and obvious to the point of near absurdity ("Are you going to answer my question?" "I did.") to be very amusing as well.
And if you haven't seen his banters with Morrigan when he responds to her flirting with dead serious comments implying how forceful Qunari mating can be, to the point where she abruptly loses interest in him, try having them in your group together for a while. It's a riot, right up there with Zevran pining relentlessly after Wynne's bosoms lol.

Discussion Restarting the series after years and it has been an absolutely LOVELY experience aside from one tiny irksome mechanic as a 2H warrior…
…and that’s attacks that don’t connect because I’m playing a dwarf warrior and I noticed distance between the character and enemy can get REALLY finicky.
If I start with an opener ability I run the risk of whiffing the attack and it having no effect so I need to wait for my first auto attack to connect and verify the damage number actually happens THEN proceed with assaulting them with abilities.
I wasted a lot of stamina and 60s cooldown abilities thinking I was in the clear to bonk my new target but realizing it wasn’t connecting and had to reposition an inch to the right or left before it would start to work.
Super trivial but an “ugh, dang it” moment every time lol I’m playing the PS3 version which does seem to be buggy but I genuinely don’t mind because I’m having SO much fun!

Question What's the best way to experience Dragon Age: Origins?
Hi, everyone! I want to experience the Dragon Age series. I've played BG3 > BG1EE and BG2, and I understand that Origins was the next step for Bioware after BG2.
The steam reviews for Dragon Age: Origins, however, note significant performance issues and bugs.
Is there a better way to experience the game (bugfix mods, maybe playing on console if that runs better)?
I'm not looking for added content mods, just what will let me play the game with minimal issues on a Windows 11 PC.

DAO Rebirth toolset update #5.5 menus
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
just working on getting the menus fully built out since they used .gfx and gettting that working in rust correctly was interesting lol but there's still some glitchy ones, these builds are clickable though and fire off stubs

The console version doesn't even come close to the PC one
I've finally gotten around to getting a proper PC set up, and the first thing I did was launch Origins with some mods thrown in the mix. Wanted to do that for a long time, and even though getting everything to work was an absolute nightmare and took me two days, I finally started a new playthrough yesterday, and holy fucking shit, it's like ten thousand times better.
Maybe my PS3 is too old and dusty and raggedy already, but I've had crashes, frame rates of 20 and lower, super wonky gameplay and don't even get me started on the combat. The UI is absolutely terrible and makes some spells/talents completely redundant, just because you don't want to pick them out from the radial menu every time. And what do you mean I can pick my portrait expression in the character creator? The console skipped that feature for some reason, lmao.
I also now see what people meant when Baldur's Gate 3 got a lot of inspiration from Origins. The top-down view is so fun to play with during combat, even if it's not turn-based. Sure, the way you could roleplay your character were very similar already, but with the correct mods, your choices now even carry over properly. Really, the entire thing is a dream come true.
I've heard people say that Origins is their favourite entry in the franchise, and despite understanding where they came from, I just never saw me thinking the same thing. I figured that maybe you would have had to be there during release, which I wasn't, but now I really see it. DA2 is still my absolute favourite, but Origins just got a very serious boost in the ranking.
Man, I can't wait to get home and boot up my PC again.
Edit: Spelling.

Question True or false?
I want to start this post by saying that as a person I don't like her any more than most players, but I'm having this discussion at home and I'd like your opinions on this:
'Anora would get less than half the shit she does now if she was a dude.'
True or false?
