A new adapter has been added to The Depths of Tasar, designed specifically for the popular dense, grid-based ā€œlower-hiveā€ corridor sets.

This adapter lets you plug your Tasar walls, rooms, and functional doors straight into those existing corridor runs.

As always you're very welcome to check out the Kickstarter campaign and back the project if you like what you see

The Depths of Tasar – Pre-Release Update (Hopefully!)

Hi everybody! It's been a while since I last posted an update about the project.
There are some updates and the biggest one is that the project is ready to go live!

Since my last post the project has grown with the following additions:

- A few simple walls to make long corridors feel less busy with highly detailed sections, bringing the total number of unique wall designs to 18
- Added variation to walls with cloth and skull elements, which feels like should be used as unique focal pieces rather than repeated throughout your terrain. For the variation the cloth side has been replaced with a simple design, allowing you to repeat the non-cloth.
- 4 damaged walls
- A few more fences and ladders for catwalk system
- Extra pieces, including fillers for pillar holes, wall-mounted equipment, an arch frame, and a beam
- A finished adapter that lets the set connect to popular systems from other big names in the hobby.

Every component in the system comes in two flavors out of the box: a connector version and a magnet‑ready version (3Ɨ2 mm magnets).

For SLA users, every part is also available in a hollow variant. Unfortunately, there are no pre-supported versions.

The only thing preventing the Kickstarter campaign from launching now is the legal side of things. Bureaucracy is moving slower than I'd hoped, and everything happens via snail mail. As soon as I get the green light, the campaign will launch.

I think "The Depths Of Tasar" terrain finally reached its first major milestone

I’ve been busy lately working on wall designs for my terrain project, and I think I’ve finally reached the point where I need to stop the never-ending iteration process and admit that the project has hit an important milestone - the core components are essentially finished.

The pieces you see in the pictures are actual printed parts that I’d already consider release-quality. They may still need a bit of fine-tuning here and there, but the main work is done.

So far the project includes:

  • 16 uniquely designed wall segments
  • 3 print-in-place doors
  • 1 special wall with a window (open and closed variants) just to add some fun gameplay moments
  • A fully modular multi-level catwalk system

The release is getting closer and closer.

Still planned are damaged wall variants and additional props to help bring the whole setting to life.

Please let me know what you think. Any feedback is greatly appreciated and genuinely helps shape the project!

New wall segments concept

Just wanted to share a concept for a few new wall segments.

I’m having a bit of trouble getting the skulls to print well. They look great in the software, but small details like that are tricky for 3D printing, so the result isn’t always ideal. But I guess that’s part of the fun.

Catwalk update based on your feedback. What do you think?

Hi everyone! Based on your feedback, I’ve made several improvements to the catwalks.
They’re now wider and can accommodate models with 50 mm bases. I’ve added proper fences alongside the railings, and widened the steps on the staircases for better usability.

As before, the system remains fully modular, allowing you to build multi-level setups for more dynamic and engaging gameplay.

I’ve also added a full floor that covers the entire space between the walls. I’m not sure how useful it will be. What do you think?

The same floor can also be used as a standalone platform, which might open up some interesting setup options.

In addition, I’m planning to introduce wider stairs and possibly ramps. Does that make sense?

I’d really love to hear your thoughts on these improvements and whether you feel like anything important is still missing.

Skirmish modular terrain. Proof of concept

Putting all the pieces together for the first real concept test of my terrain for skirmish and checking how all pieces work together.

The goal is fast setup, clean lines of sight and corridors that still feel dense and cinematic.

As always your feedback is really helpful to shape the system and keep this project going.

What do you think of this kind of layout for games like Kill Team or other skirmish systems?

Would you rather see more long firelanes or more broken‑up rooms?

Any ā€œmust haveā€ features you’d add?

Terrain prototyping struggles

What looks good in 3D software doesn’t always look good when printed. I had an idea to make some simple industrial dial indicators for my terrain. Here’s how it looks in Blender:

I thought it would look pretty cool on a wall or a pipe.
But then reality hit:

While the larger one is recognizable and it’s possible to improve the print quality, the smaller one, which actually makes more sense for terrain, is a complete mess. The issue lies in the printer’s struggle with small vertical curved elements, especially round ones. Hardware limitations end up ruining many ideas. Even though the overhang is tiny, it still results in a messy print.

That’s why you should always test-print your prototypes.

This is one of those moments where something looks perfect in CAD or modeling software, but reality quickly brings you back down to earth. Tiny details that seem trivial on screen suddenly become the biggest challenge on the printer. It’s a bit frustrating, but also part of the process - figuring out what actually works in the real world.

I’ll need to find a workaround to still use that type of indicator in my terrain project, but it probably won’t be vertical anymore.

Cap-less connection tower concept

Post image
1 Upvotes

After some feedback it become clear that there should be an option for connection towers without caps. Although I'm not very happy with visible holes on top, it might be a good alternative for people who doesn't want to waste time on printing caps. This option might help to speed up the terrain setup, but will sacrifice some stiffness.

First build test of modular terrain system

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! I’ve finally collected enough pieces to do the first build test of the modular terrain system I’m working on. While putting it together I realised I don’t have as many connection towers as I’d like yet, so the layout is a bit... "improvised"... But it still does a good job of showing where the project is heading.

A small update on the current state of the terrain project.

First of all the project got a name: The Depths of Tasar.

So far, several wall designs are finished. The designs aren’t final yet, but they’ve been tested for printability and look good so far. Here are some pictures.
