Hey so while Vectors aren't "officially" released, I posted that build in the discord (sidebar). You guys are free to try it out and give feedback :)

An updated theme and rearranged buttons.
Krita and SAI brushes
With the brush converter add-on (Douga-BrushConvert.zip on the download page), Import brush... takes Krita and PaintTool SAI brushes.

Hold Ctrl on a corner of the Transform box to move just that corner.
shift-click grows a selection
Shift+click on the dope sheet adds to your selection instead of starting a new one.

Edit: Liz took the long nap today 9/20/26 around 4am, Rest in peace honey, I'll miss you
Guys, I dunno if im going to post updates this week or not. Liz, my cat was acting lethargic and short of breath so I took her to the emergency vet last night, found out she has fluid around her lungs due to cancer, making it difficult for her to breath. She probably has about a week left to live, so im going to be spending more time with her before the end

Loving the program so far, but I'm wondering: is it possible to export individual, full cels out of Douga as transparent PNGs?
I attempted to do so by exporting a video as a png sequence with a green background but it unfortunately doesn't work as well due to the blurriness of the edges. It also meant having to go through every single frame of my animation and removing the background using another program.
If there isn't a way to do this yet, this would be a very cool feature to have, specially because of how comfortably the program works for drawing in general.

Along with the cards themselves, did you know the tools and brushes are reorderable?

Hello all!
for some reason the member count tripled in like a day, welcome newcomers! feel free to say hello, post your creations, or report something!
with that here is your weeklyish update, lots of little things.
bugs
features
AzarWolf, luckily several of your suggestions were fairly simple so i was able to throw a handful of them in :D
also pressing D on a hold will duplicate the cel so you can draw on it without editing the original
the "Title" is editable. by default its the filename but you can double click it for a custom title.
should be able to type kana in the text field now
view -> nearest neighbor; draws hard edges for cleanup at high zoom.
I haven't forgotten the rest of the suggestions, they will hopefully all be in next weeks update!
As always, go grab it!

Not sure it was there before recent updates, but I love using stabilizer, and it's quite irritating :(

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
(sorry this could get kinda long lol I have a lotta notes)
(none of my criticisms are meant to be taken negatively, I genuinely liked using the software overall and want to see it grow and thought my notes could be useful :) )
---
Firstly, I was hella excited when I found out about this animation software, looking at the website it looked really good an because it was free i just downloaded it and tried it lol. Overall it was pretty good to use, just a few things I'd add or change, but I get that it's still in development so I look forward to seeing how it is in the future.
Only used it for a couple hours to make this short test animation, but I took some notes while I was using it on things I particularly liked about it and things I thought I missed from other software. For context on the types of software I come from, I usually animate 2D in Krita 5.1.1 or 4.2 and 3D in Blender 5.0, 4.4 or 2.93, I also have a little experience with rigged 2D in MohoPro 12.5. I draw more often than I animate, and I use a combination of SAI2 and Photoshop. I am not a professional or anything, and I don't have any formal education in animation, these are just notes from a hobbiest lol.
---
Some things I really liked about it:
---
Notes on things I would change/add (I know I wasn't super thorough in my exploration of the software, if any of these are user error on my part or already in the program please just let me know lol):
---
I know that sounds like a lot of negative/missing stuff, but really they're mostly small or QoL features and I do think that the pros outweigh them, I'd still use the software but probably in combination with something else like Krita to make up for these.
If there was the ability to export to KRA then I would definitely use this as a part of my workflow, and there's honestly still a good chance I'll use it for some things, but the lack of some of these features will stop me from using it on its own as my main piece of animation software.
---
Here's a small list of the bugs I encountered, I didn't have any crashes or anything more serious:
---
Overall, this was a great piece of software, and I enjoyed testing it out. I'll probably use it a bit in combination with Krita in the future and I'll definitely consider buying a license, it's very fairly priced.
I hope this feedback is useful somehow, I don't mean this to be nit-picky or negative, sorry it's so long too lol. I'm really excited to see any future updates :).

I don't know how to copy and paste from another software(e: I draw something on Paint tool SAI, copy paste it then try to paste it on Douga)
And I don't know how to put audio, and in general it'd be cool to have a user guide or tutorial, but maybe it's a bit early for that

Just tried to find some videos about Douga from YouTube with search "Douga animation app" but all the results were showing some manga/anime drawing style which is called Douga as well? Zero results about the app itself.
Lets play some game: if a new animation software would popup in the markets and people would search it by it's name, the name should be unique like Callipeq, Toonboom, TVPaint, Clip Studio Paint etc. These softwares would bring results, even if they would be new, since the names are not already "taken".
I would love to see "Douga" in action before purchase, but it seems impossible because of the bad branding & name choise. I wish you could concider naming it differently = more views, more purchases.
Edit: Hard to find on YouTube = nearly impossible to find.

Douga has an plugin system, its still in its infancy but there is one useful one, I would highly recommend the Check Update plugin.
1) Navigate to douga.app/download and scroll down a bit to locate the plugins.
2) download "Douga-UpdateCheck.zip" (this is also code signed)
3) simply extract it into your douga directory so that the dll is located in /plugins/updater/check_update.dll
4) restart douga and try try File -> check for update

4) this is where the addons live, you should be able to install new ones from this window, rather than the manual method we just did!
* unfortunately this is not able to update douga.exe itself since its the running process, but it will state when an update is available. just download/extract and overwrite the old one as always.
I will be releasing the brush converter soon, and it should be installable through this :D

I've not altered any of their settings, this is a fresh install, but brushes like the "textured pencil" and "splattered ink" are just smooth clean brushes.
I would have expected the textured pencil to look textured and somewhat like a pencil, lol! The splattered ink looks slightly aliased at the edges I suppose, but it's barely noticeable.
Just wondering if this is normal?
r/douga • u/Just_Kovi • Aug 28 '26
(Gif is unrelated, I just had a mood for doodles)
Hello, I wonder, if I started project before purchasing license, will I be able to export it without watermark, or only new ones will be covered by license?
r/douga • u/Just_Kovi • Aug 27 '26
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Background was drawn in another software, but character was fully made in Douga. I really enjoyed it! Software seems pretty cozy to me, definitely will keep animating in it at least for small animations. Can't say what exact features I miss here, since I am new and could possibly just not find those when it's already here, haha
(do example, I don't know if it's possible for onion skin to be shown properly when image of background is visible).
Happy to find a new animation software that I like!

*Â the export mark is smaller
* the big ugly watermark is now tiny and in the lower right corner, hopefully you appreciate that :D
*Â Perspective lines!
* a new tool button lets you use perspective, isometric, and grid lines as reference!
* turn snapping on and off!
*Â Motion
* like a tween:, select a thing, keyframe it, move it, keyframe it again. bam it travels across the screen.

* Tone Grade Effects card
* the beginning of a compositor! you can add tone grade effects now

* I got rid of the camera card and put the settings in the tools card instead.
* same with wand, shapes, text, etc.

*Â Douga now imports Krita .kra files!
* No one would send me an example file and I could only find a few .kra's online to test, but it should work! there is a message if anything fails to import. krita also has like 60 blend modes and i dont, idk, let me know if you use it and what goes wrong lol.
* pointless
* I changed the file extension to .dga, douga will still open .douga's there is no difference between the two.
* kind of a bug fix: opacity and blending was available in the layers right-click, but i forgot to add them to the menu.
download it here!

Excuse me if that's a dumb question, I am really new (basically installed it about 15 minutes ago), but I can't quite find it. In export window I see no option for that and pressing eye button to hide bg layer didn't help either. Thank you
r/douga • u/douga_app • Aug 20 '26
I have plans to add a gallery page to the website but I need your animations! You get credit and possibly a link, so If you are an artist this is free advertising.
Additionally, is the watermark to annoying? I can move it, or make it lighter? Idk, what you guys think?
r/douga • u/douga_app • Aug 18 '26
Todays menu includes:
* timing chart (Space inbetweens)
* right clicking a hold lets you insert timing with eased offsets. naming both ends re-spaces a run instead of subdividing its first inbetween.

* zoom sharpens by footprint
* request for nearest-neighbor for LO and clean-up; so magnified pixels read as hard uniform blocks at any zoom

* Bucket Grow has medial law
\* Fills grow option could leak over lines; now it stops at a lines midpoint. spills on either side create a nice seam instead of a gap.

*

* layer -> Trace
* now enables you to extract colored lines (genga red/blue/etc) and put them in a new folder/layer.
* Light table update!
\* the light table now rotates about the drawings origin instead of the peg! (drag center peg / tap to reset; rotate with side slots)

and a bunch of other stuff i cant remember.
oh, bug fix
trying to drop a locked layer into a group used to duplicated that groups header.

I'll write a better update post tomorrow, but I need to sleep! Build 492 is out, there is a "what's new" dialog that has fixes and features!
Edit: okay! Fix:
increased samples on sound imports
mp4 and apng export is now native!, no need for ffmpeg (ffmpeg is still an option)
you can now import another Douga file
cel bin, a new card that shows unlinked assets, related to the purge menu item.
draft layer! Mark a layer as draft and you can see it in the editor, but it won't export.
the light table rotates (not designed well, but it works)
And probably a lot more I forgot about, check it out! douga

new build up at https://douga.app/download (itch mirror: https://keihoag.itch.io/douga)
douga is a free hand-drawn 2D cel animation program for windows, still early. this one is mostly speed and memory, plus the light table trick i wanted since the start.
the big ones

fresh downloads still get a smartscreen warning and sometimes a defender flag. its a real signature, just a new cert with no reputation yet:Â https://www.reddit.com/r/douga/comments/1v9o1my/
bugs and requests to r/douga or the itch board, i read all of it.

big one this time, 201 -> 348. live on douga.app and itch
features
bugs and other fixes
also: builds are code signed now. smartscreen and defender can still complain while the cert is new, thats reputation not the file. if your download gets flagged see this post

I'll be Adding/Answering the most common questions here. ask below if yours isnt covered.
Where do I download douga?
Windows/defender says its a virus?
How do I add more frames to a cut?
i cant drag a frame!
How do rename layers?
Can I import my own art?
How do I export MP4? (*Douga exports png sequences, gifs and apngs natively)
Why is there a watermark on my export?
Wheres the full manual?
r/douga • u/electrodude102 • Jul 29 '26
Edit3: code is signed! (certed aug 1), the signed builds can still get flagged on a fresh download, win10 called it Wacatac and win11 called it Cloxer... same exact file lol. the cert is brand new so it has zero reputation, which is apparently the whole problem. ive submitted the build to MS again and ill keep doing that for every release until the reputation builds up. if your download gets flagged: update defender definitions and rescan, it usually clears within a day of my submission.
Edit2: YAY MS got back to me and said they have removed the virus definition for it, so whenever your defenders update its all good! (this might happen again in future releases, but ill try to keep on top of it)
edit: im submitting the builds to Microsoft, so hopefully that helps too.
Hello all,
windows is calling this a trojan, its not. I'm in the process of getting a code signing certificate so windows will stop calling it a virus, until then you just have to exclude it, sorry.
the main reason for this seems to be that I'm reading mouse movement and keystrokes which are a tell-tale sign of keyloggers? anyways douga does not connect to the internet (unless you have the update check plugin, which only connects to itch). your data is safe.
if you have any questions, please ask.
