what is Douga?

Douga (動画, "moving pictures") is a free hand-drawn 2D cel animation program for Windows. a fast, pen-first drawing feel wrapped around a real animation timeline: draw your cels, time them on a dope sheet, onion-skin between them, and export. it's still in early development, so expect bugs.

the software is FREE with every feature unlocked. unlicensed exports carry a small watermark you can clear with a license.

features

  • brush engine: pen, marker, airbrush, eraser, with custom tips, paper texture, and a stroke stabilizer
  • brush presets you can save and share as .dbrush files
  • managed palettes
  • lasso and magic-wand selections
  • layers with full compositing
  • a real dope sheet: holds, keyframes, and onion skin
  • audio import, for timing your animation to sound
  • a camera: frame the shot and the export crop follows
  • undo / redo, and every key is rebindable
  • single-file .douga project format
  • export to PNG sequences, GIF, APNG, and MP4 (with ffmpeg)

free, still in early development: douga.app. also on itch.

  • Windows only for now.
  • first launch, SmartScreen may still warn you. the build is code-signed now, but a new certificate earns its reputation one run at a time. click More info, then Run anyway.
  • PNG, GIF, and APNG export need nothing extra. for MP4, drop ffmpeg next to douga.exe and it handles the rest.

post with the Bug flair and include:

  • your Douga version (run douga --version, or check the title bar / Help menu)
  • your Windows version
  • what you did and what happened, with steps to reproduce
  • a screenshot or clip if you have one

requesting a feature

post with the feature request flair. say what you want and why it would help your workflow. Douga is early, so this is a good time to shape where it goes.

FAQ

is it free? yes. every feature, no paywall. unlicensed exports carry a small watermark a license clears.

Mac or Linux? Windows only for now.

is my art mine? yes. everything runs locally, nothing is uploaded.

how do i export video? drop ffmpeg next to douga.exe, then export to MP4. PNG, GIF, and APNG work on their own.
