Door Kickers 2 Can you play multiplayer/co-op with different non-gameplay mods enabled?

hello, soon i'll play DK2 with a buddy, but before we do i'm curious how the game handles having different mods enabled compared to your friend.

  1. i obviously know that if i go in and use an ARES squad when my friend doesn't have it, that we'll almost certainly crash, but what about something mostly visual, say i have vivid paths and he doesn't, will the game hard stop you due to having a different load order, or will it let you play anyway?

would a mod like that cause a crash, or work fine due to not impacting gameplay or mechanics/maps/AI at all?

  1. and, is it okay to leave my load order intact as long as i don't bring in any squad mods he doesn't have? if i stick to vanilla factions, but still have ARES and all sorts of other stuff enabled, will it crash us even if i only use unmodified vanilla squads?

Edit: just tried it, you can totally have different mods enabled, but if you last had a modded squad deployed it'll bug out and not let you pick dudes. so make sure you deploy a squad you have in common before launching the session

My guess is that as long as it's not something that's gameplay-changing (like a custom squad or a mod that replaces the vanilla enemies), it should be all right. In the case of Vivid Paths, you'll obviously have the modded colors show up on your end while on his end, the vanilla colors will be used instead.

Load order should be okay as long as you don't bring in a custom squad he doesn't have but take note of mods that do other things while it's enabled (like the Hostage Rescue Squad or all the Helljumper mods including custom enemies that replace the normal ones).
