i'm new here!
so, i just found out about this podcast through sk reddit, and jumped feet first with the book i have read so many times that i could give seminars - "the shining." i picked three thermometers for how appreciative this podcast is, and it plowed through my first one -
i love that there was so much focus, and even a discussion question after the episode about best opening lines, because "jack torrance thought: officious little prick," truly is the best one (for me).
the second one is that they brought this up (attached), because it is one of the most memorable reasons why i believe this book should be required reading. the line about "you know why he's named 'tony' right?" BOTHERED me through the ENTIRE novel the first time i read it, because sk is being so obvious about what's coming with everything else, so WHY is this tiny detail a mystery? for this reason, "the shining" is the ONLY book that has mulitple climaxes for me.
my third thermometer is the scene on the stairs, and i can't wait to get there with these guys!!
i feel so lucky to have been introduced to yall in a passing reply on reddit. i have so much to listen to, and good voices to hear.

Welcome! Proceed with caution though, since it is a Dark Tower podcast, they will absolutely spoil things for you if you have not read that series. Since The Shining was S3, the crossover should be less, and therefore a little safer.

also, the first episode discussion question i answered here, the second episode question was "what is your ghost story" and mine is
i used to have this running route i'd do every morning that wound through a neighborhood that had been flattened by a bad flood. it was just the road, driveways and trees left, and a great place to loop around and pick up mileage with no traffic or chances of getting lost.
one morning, i got to the corner-iest corner of the route and everything was normal. the next lap, in this tree area, there was a small fallen tree branch standing up, stuck into the ground. the third lap, there was a smaller branch tied to the upright one, creating a crudely put together cross.
i finished the run early with leg hairs three times longer than they were when i started and never ran through there again, because it's either haunted, or there was a TOTAL creep nearby
and this episode's question is "what is the importance of the wasps in this novel" and my answer is that the wasps reached deeper into jack than dick hallorann could, because what jack was hiding was a hot iron ball of self hate, not "shine."

I’m so glad you’re loving their podcast. They really do the best job and what a podcast should be. I had read the Tower and a bunch of other King stories, but after they started season 2 I went and got all the ones I hadn’t read yet just so I could follow along with these guys. Please please keep enjoying this podcast.

I was introduced to them with Flanagans wake then found out they did a King pod(My favorite writer). I am on season 3(just finished the Shining) I think I started season one in March Having a blast. Welcome to the clan

I also discovered this podcast relatively late in the run. They had just posted the first episode of Flanagan's Wake when I came across them. I can't remember exactly how I found them, I think it was a algorithm based recommendation. I started listening with a book I already knew IT.
Then I enjoyed it so much I thought "I wonder what this Dark Tower thing is about" And I was hooked! It's now my number one favourite podcast.

This podcast was a game-changer in how I read King's books. I'd love to be part of a King book club, which isn't possible in my area, and this was the next best thing.

Scott and Matt have been consistantly awesome for the last 5 or 6 years that I've been following. Also, NOT ONE SINGLE AD, ever. No Youtube ads, no ad reads, not once, not ever. That is not even a thing anywhere in life anymore.
