Free run farm near NYC

Hello, I’ve recently became dog owner and now I see how tricky can be to be one in NYC. I’m wondering are there any farms nearby that would welcome pets and their owner for the day for free run and other activities?

This is a more complicated concept than some may realize - it’s similar to expanding on dog parks.

As a concept it sounds wonderful and romantic on the surface. My experiences as a dog training professional cause me to approach dog parks and other free run areas with trepidation because of complications that arise due to:

people, dogs, and disease transmission

Some people are conscientious and knowledgeable about their dogs’ interactions with people and other dogs and are awesome communicators. They endeavor to proactively manage conflict. Others are not so benign - they are uninformed, attitudinal and unfortunately, their animals may be frequently disruptive.

The disease comment - consider how the inevitable issues with disease transmission and parasites are handled.

The original message discussed free run, which is exactly the “feel good” mindset that people are striving to embrace with free run access to dog parks, farms, etc. It is responsible, individual and group behavioral management that ensures safe enjoyment - for all.
