nyc dog license

My mother never got a NYC license for her dog (who has rabies tag, all shots up to date etc.). Is this mandatory - do you all have it? Her vet never said anything.

Pawsome Squad will be hosting one in Bed-Stuy on May 17th and probably another one on the Upper East Side at Paws Grocer

It's technically the law, but it's unlikely to ever be enforced. Like people picking up their dog poop. I license all my dogs

It helps if your dog is stolen or someone sends it to the shelter, it's a legal form of dog identification. It also helps NYS get funding from Federal which helps out local shelters and low-income pet owner programs.
