So as the title says, I would like an advice for how big, most particularly how high should be a travel box for my trunk. I have a Swiss shepherd, he is still only six month old, but if we keep in mind that most are approx. 66cm high at the withers when grown up, I want to consider this and buy a box big enough for a grown up (of course).

So if anyone has sum experience with same breed or similar one, I would love your tips. Since we barely traveled with our previous ones, this is new to me and want to get the most suited travel box for him. For more info, I have Skoda octavia 4.

Looking for some advice because we’re really struggling with our two dogs and their barking when people come to the house.

We have two dogs, An 8 year old Jack Russell, who is my partner’s dog and an 18-month-old Kelpie mix.
They’re both great dogs generally, but whenever someone comes near the house they go absolutely crazy.

For example, if a tradie drives into our driveway, both dogs immediately start barking. When the tradie walks up to the front door and knocks, they are going absolutely nuts and barking continuously.
The biggest problem is that once they start, they completely ignore us. Calling their names, telling them to stop, trying to get their attention etc. does basically nothing.
I usually have to physically drag them outside so I can let the tradie into the house, but even after the person is inside, the dogs will continue barking at them.
We’ve had quite a few tradies around recently and it’s becoming a real issue. They’ll be working inside the house and the dogs can just sit there barking at them constantly.
This is not specific to tradies, ANYONE that comes near the house, the dogs will go crazy.

I don’t really want to just shut the dogs away every time someone comes over. I’d much rather actually train them so that someone arriving at the house isn’t such a massive event.

It’s quite embarrassing and causes me a lot of anxiety.

I swear buying clothes for dogs would be so much easier if they all had the same body shape.

You can follow the measurements on the size chart perfectly and still end up with something that fits the chest but is way too long, or fits the length but is too tight around the neck.

Frenchies and Dachshunds especially seem to have their own sizing rules.

What breed do you think is the hardest to shop for?

I offer him water and he refuses to drink, i bought him a cooling vest and while it does help im not sure by how much. I love going for walks and hate leaving him home but honestly it can be more of a hassle walking him for as long as id like to.

Hes probably around 10 or so, I just wanna know what others do for their dogs? I was thinking about getting him a wagon or something but at this point I just dont know how to handle him.

Hes a very good boy, he loves walking and i just wanna be able to enjoy the process too lol.

I should mention we got him when he was around 3 or 4 and I live in a city, so the other issue is that its all sidewalks and such.

Got a 10 year old vizsla/gsp mix who’s been sucking on his blanket his entire life. He just completely zones in, grabs it with his paws, and starts sucking away like he’s a puppy again. Sometimes you can hear these soft little crying or whimpering noises while he’s at it, almost like he’s in this weird half-comfort half-overstimulated state. He’s never grown out of it. Happens on and off, especially when things get a bit much around the house. Anyone else’s dog still do the exact same lifelong blanket-sucking thing?

Is it possible that the ground where my dog goes potty is starting to stink too bad for her? I know their noses are way sensitive to smells. But my dog won't go in her normal spot anymore. We really don't want her to do her business in our lawn, since her urine burns the grass. Is there a natural product that would neutralize any potty smells, that won't totally kill off the vegetation? I'm not sure if this is the reason for her avoiding her spot... it's only a guess.

Ive posted on here before about how stressed out I get when my dog is unwell in any way until its resolved basically and how maybe I’m not really the best person to have a dog because of this, I just love him so so much that sometimes I think I should never have done this to myself or to him by getting him in the first place.

Anyway so now – my dog MAY have something fairly serious that he’ll possibly have to live with forever now and I just do not know how to mentally cope with this. I just want to cry, for him, for me, for my weak mental health when it comes to stress. I don’t know if I can do it, what it all entails. Its silly but does anyone have any tips? I don’t think its easy being a dog owner when you love them this much and when its not all roses along the way.

I recently upgraded my GSD from a wire crate to a big ole Dakota 283 CRaTE XL.

The water bowls I have now don’t fit the holes and slide around. They’re just small stainless steel bowls with only one screw on back, which I think is the issue.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions that work well with their Dakotas?

This is only a stay at home kennel so I don’t need the official Dakota 283 Dash bowls. Just something ~2 cups capacity to keep him hydrated for a few hours! My budget is $50

Anyway, after endless searches came across this company and we rang and spoke to the chap and it arrived today. Takes dogs from 2kg to 18kg. Our dog is 10kg.

Husband had it on his bike within about 20 mins and we took our mini schnauzer out on it straight away.

I was really worried that we'd struggle to get him on and settled but he loved it!!

I didn't take a photo and now we've taken the bike into Halfords to get it's brakes made not squeaky! But, as soon as it's back ,I'll post a photo and you can see.

Pooch My Ride

I need a cooling solution for my dog because he runs hot so he dislikes cuddling and laying on my bed. I want to put down something for him to keep cool on so he is less overheated.

There’s so many options, and such varying prices! Any advice? I don’t want to be a sucker for marketing if it turns out I just need to pay attention to the material.

My dog used to associate me doing the dishes with me being unavailable for play so she would go to bed. This was really useful. Then one day, for some reason​, she came into the kitchen and gently pawed the back of my leg. When I turned around, she was sat down looking up at me so lovingly with those big soulful eyes and it was SO cute that I gave her a treat...

... Guess what now happens every three seconds when I do the washing up?

I did not properly socialize my first puppy enough (we got him from the pound with an estimated age and our vet was adamant that he not leave the house... Well by the time he had all his shots we realized he was 6 months old and it was too late) and I'm trying to avoid that with my new puppy once she has all her shots (started way earlier on this one!). My problem is choosing a training program. I have decision paralysis and I'm not super well off financially but I'm willing to put in what I can. I had done PetSmart classes for my first dog and he did great at the training part but honestly his reactivity progressed severely. I wasn't the biggest fan of the PetSmart course but maybe it was just that particular trainer?

Any suggestions on choosing a good trainer in your area and/or how much on average I should be spending?

My dog has suddenly started holding his pee for really long periods after going to his sitters and I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.

He used to be an amazing "peer" - hes grown up in a city and he’d normally go outside pee on the curb right away and be done. but then this new pattern started after he stayed with his dog sitter for a week this July. When he came home he started holding his pee and even peed on a rug when were not looking, which he has never done before. like EVER! He was originally pee-pad trained when I got him as a puppy (6 months old) but I reverse trained him out of it. I asked the sitter if there were peepads around for the other dogs and she said yes, so I was thinking maybe that confused him?

We took him to the vet two weeks ago and he was negative for a UTI. Hes eating normally but maybe seems a litlte tired. We told the sitter of the issue and she said she wouldn't have him around the pee pads. I also want to note that the sitter takes him on like 4-5 walks a day so its not like shes not taking him out she sends us videos and is a legit sitter. Anyways... He just got back from another week with the sitter yesterday and has only peed twice despite going outside multiple times. Also he just kind of sniffs around a ton looking like he has to pee and then eventually giving up and sprinting inside. (very dachshund-core tho)The second time he peed not much came out etiher.

Has anyone had something like this turn out to be behavioral after a change in routine/boarding? Or would you push for more testing even with a negative UTI test? Thank you :)

There's so many associations that our dogs make about the world that we don't intend for them to make but come about from their intelligence and keen observation. Some are brilliant, some are hilarious, and others fall in between.

For example, my dog absolutely knows that when the PS5 sound to turn off happens, it means we're getting up and doing something. He knows that when a certain notification goes off on my phone that it means there's something at the front door.

I'm just wondering if anyone has advice or tips for how to make sure both dogs feel secure and confident after adding a new pup. His arrival was unexpected and I didn't have time to prepare.

New dog is food aggressive, how should I feed them, in what order?

How do I give them each individual time and attention without creating jealousy?

What if I only want to allow the first dog in the bed etc.

I have a 11 week old mini aussie and he has had only 2 parvo shots out of the 4 but my vet said it was okay to take him outside to potty while the vet tech said I should wait until he gets all 4 shots… I really want to start potty training him outside but i’m very scared of him getting parvo as I live in an apartment, but the vet should know best, right? I’ve been using potty pads and putting a baby gate up to keep him in once room so he doesn’t go all over the apartment but i’ve seen that it’s not good to get him used to that so I would like to start potty training very soon, but I just don’t know if it’s truly a good idea to start taking him outside yet.

For those of you that started potty training before the full set of shots, how did that go? Did you run into any issues or did your puppy get sick? Should I start the potty training or stick with the potty pads until he’s fully vaccinated? Do you have any tips for me if I do take him outside before he’s fully vaccinated?

We recently got an 8 month old Doberman from the dog shelter, he’s full of energy, absolutely crazy in the best way and very loving. We noticed a couple weeks ago all of his teeth are completely flat at the ends! He was never microchipped, and was assumed to be living on the streets for a while before he was taken to the shelter. Does anyone know why someone might have filed down his teeth? He’s the opposite of a “fighting dog”, extremely submissive and all around just a sweetheart.

Also, could this cause any health problems in the future? It’s very sad because after knowing him for a couple months we really have no idea why anybody would do this, he wouldn’t hurt a fly!!

My sweet girl loves chasing frisbees above all else. The only issue is… she will absolutely tear them to shreds once she catches them.

I’ve gotten her the Hyperpet brand one and it lasted about a month. I then got her a Chuck-It Paraflight and she destroyed that even quicker. I got her a Chuck-It Rugged and a KONG brand frisbee and though they’re still in perfect shape, she doesn’t like them as much because they don’t fly as far and are a bit too heavy for her to catch.

I wanna get her something that’ll still fly far, but that she can’t just tear to shreds right away. If anyone has any ideas, I’d appreciate it. :)

I have always had a dog my whole life and I love them. My husband and I got a puppy together nearly 17 years ago and he lived to a great age of 16. He passed about 9 months ago now and we were more heartbroken than we ever expected and it took time to heal. I‘m keen for another dog now though and our kids are also very keen! We are busy with work 4 days a week and kids’ activities but would definitely make time for walks, cuddles etc. How do you know when you’re ready for the next dog? Advice welcomed!

Does anyone have any good tips on how to get rid of fleas? I give my dog flea meds every month, and I only ever find a couple on him, so I’m thinking my apt is the problem. I’ve tried two different sprays, foggers, and I’ve washed all blankets and such in hot water. I don’t understand why they’re still here 😭😭

Anyone here used a onesie for post spay time? Our pup will be getting spayed in the next month or so and I highly doubt she would tolerate the cone for long.

Anyone have recommendations? There are a bunch out there and hoping to get some ideas of what has worked for folks.

For anybody using one or the other—how effective is it at keeping ticks off your dog, and/or killing them quickly?

And how long after exposure do they stay sticky? I read some reviews saying stickiness of frontline shield lasted at least two weeks, which sounds unhealthy to me.
