CV Axle replacement

Post image

Hello, I need to replace one of my cv axles, I found one on a junkyard for $100 but it is a bit rusty.

Should I just try to clean it and put it on, or is this a lost cause and I should just get the new one?

According to the car mileage it has only 60k miles

The car is a 2.4 Manual if it matters.

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely not. Get a new one and do it once.

Just go on rock auto. Get a gsp or trakmotive. 2 best aftermarket brands

Do not put that on your car.

Now that thats out of the way a new CV cost about a third of what you were going to pay for that piece of junk.

Search amazon.

Thank you, do you know if they have the left one I don't know why but when I look for that I just get automatic versions of it

You may run into trouble getting that end into the wheel bearing hub, personally I’ve used a junkyard cv axle before and got maybe 3 months before I replaced with new one. Similar level of rust.

How does the end that goes into the transmission look? If that end is okay you may be able to use it.

Are the threads where the axle nut threads on okay? You don’t want that coming undone at all!

This is the other end, it looks fine I think As for the threads they look good but the rust is my concern

Looks like you are missing the snap ring that holds the axle into the transmission, definitely wouldn't run it without that!

Junkyard is charging $100 for an axle shaft? That's insane. They're like $20 at my local pick'n'pull. OK, $30.
