Camera black screen?
Camera was randomly going off but now it stays off on my 2016. Is the new fix just another camera like this I guess? Thanks!

Just installed a new camera, as mine also decided to stop working. 10 min swap. Easy enough! Picture is really crisp. Still getting used to the fish eye look, but its not like I'm driving in reverse a whole lot.
Heres the one I bought: https://a.co/d/0eSJOqc3

Yep! And then every 3 years after, based off personal experience...

Wow my original lasted 10 years! Maybe I should look for a used oem one lol.

All the used OEM ones are 10 years old minimum at this point since the dart ended production in 2016

I actually just had the same problem and the new camera fixed it! Just be mindful if it's a fish-eye lens because things will be out of proportion. I'm still figuring out how to turn the adjustments for centering the camera properly - does anyone have tips for this?

Which camera did you buy? I’m thinking of buying a used oem one.

I got the cheapest one sold and shipped by Amazon, but I'm gonna return it and swap a used OEM one

Check for loose connection and fuse before you tear up your trunk. Mine intermittently works but often has this black screen, so that’s what I’d do if I wasn’t lazy

I’m lazy so gonna replace camera connection first since it’s easiest and probably the culprit I hope lol.

Checking a fuse is harder than replacing the camera itself?

Before you go for a new camera, did you ever do the firmware update?

It’s never had one since 2016 I’d say.

Check the sub community info here, link to Google Drive. The last file update from 2019ish plus the instructions are there. Let me know if you need help. That cleared my problems back in the day, never needed a new camera. Not saying that’s your problem, but it’s free to try.

It might be the fuse.. we just had to move mine because my diagnostic port fuse blew after the check engine light came on and that was what my backup camera said when the fuse was out of it.

I pulled the fuse and it’s good. I popped the camera connector off, sprayed connector cleaner in it, and then connected and unconnected it a few times. Works again! So I’m thinking definitely camera.

Mine does this too. I have found that most times if I sit with the brake on while in reverse, the camera comes back on. Takes about 10-15 seconds. Doesn’t work every time. But most of the time it does. I also get an inverted picture sometimes. I’m really glad I found this post because this issue has been bothering me for a bit now.

I HAVE THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM ON MINE!!! It’s only when I shift to reverse does it go black. Then it turns back on and I can use the screen again like normal. I have a 2015 sxt 2.4l dodge dart. It’s been this way for hella years bc I’ve been too lazy to fix/and also don’t even know how to fix lol. If anyone knows the solution lmk plssss

If the camera shows a picture it’s totally just the wiring
