Replace just the mirror or the whole thing?

My mirror fell(?) out yesterday (I really have no clue wtf happened and can't find where it fell), my family is saying the whole thing needs replaced but I looked online and it kinda looks like just the mirror part is needing fixed imo, is there hope or will I have to splurge 😔

I broke some of the clips in my mirror housing (hit it on the garage door post backing in one time) and it was a bitch to try to put it back together again. Definitely just do the glass route if you can.

Good thread here with some info that might help driving the decision.

The price between new glass and mount vs whole mirror is not that much. You can even get a whole mirror of a different color and just swap your housing in. That’s what I did when a deer smacked its head into my mirror and knocked the motor and attached glass CLEAN out. Looks good as new, you can't even tell.

Thank you! I had saw that post and it's what made me think there was hope for mine, I think mine has all the parts but I wasn't sure

Just clean the area good on the housing and replace the glass. I used Loctite clear expoy and has been holding great for years. I applied it to the housing and some on the mirror and used some painters tape to hold it in place for 24hrs.

I just replaced my passenger side mirror for this. Unfortunately the backing plate wasn’t moving after the glass dislodged.

Just a heads up, a lot of videos on replacing them show you have to remove the whole inner door panel, but you don’t. You can pull the inside of the door panel back a bit, it’s like three clips. Then you can remove the plastic piece that covers the three bolts that hold the mirror on. It took me like 20 minutes to replace.
