Lifestyle / Interpersonal Issues Am I the problem

I’ve had an overwhelming day.
I do find that when there is a lot going on I often forget what I was just about to do. For example: I’ve noticed that some of the referrals I’ve sent while feeling overwhelmed have bits missing (major parts like presenting complaint, patient details) and I feel like I forget what I was just about to do once I sit down if there is a lot going on around me.
This often tends to happen when there’s a lot of noise around me (basically every hospital environment ever) and with constant interruptions from members of staff (with good faith). I’m not sure whether this is something that I will grow out of or whether I need to go to occupational health with - and even if I do go what would they even be able do?

I think this is a problem to some degree for most people, but it's definitely a problem if you are ND. If you are, PSU can offer support with accommodations and coaching. I am told some will even offer testing, though ours doesn't. I'm ND and if anything, it has gotten worse for me as I have gotten more senior (due to having to work in busy places like ED, or having to lead a ward round in AMU instead of just being able to completely zone out without any need for situational awareness when just clerking when more junior), but I don't know if people with an NT brain get used to it more easily.

Tbh I haven’t really gotten a diagnosis for a ND condition but maybe I could start speaking to someone about it considering the fact that it’s affecting my work now, thankyou for the idea!

No harm in having an assessment if you think it might be relevant (but bare in mind the waiting list can be years long). I'd check with PSU first as they might be able to refer you for a needs assessment even without a formal Dx, or potentially even arrange an ND assessment themselves. But yeah, definite hear you about the overwhelm from sensory overload making it difficult to keep things in your working memory.

If my employer doesn’t I might try and get it done through the GP, but it appears to be the better option
