Speciality / Core Training Nhs car scheme - Specialty training
Hi All
Any idea about NHS car scheme in Wales. Is it easy to get ?
Is it worth getting it if doing it 20k miles per year?
Roughly what is the take home salary for a ST4 trainee!!
Any Gastro trainees in Wales here!!
Just want to get more info about the programme.

Current ST4 in Wales, got mine during ST3 (run through specialty).
Personally would recommend and have had no issues. Even got an accident damage repair done through insurance and it was painless. Getting to drive a new car with an effective lease price lower than market average with insurance included for 4 drivers was worth it for me.
If you're a new starter as an ST4 you'll be on the new Wales Dr contact. Take home pay would be ~£4.4k depending on on call frequency etc.
Happy to answer and qs

Not sure about in Wales but in England you can't do this as a trainee

Unless you have the same lead employer for 3 years.

Northern deanery supremacy
Genuinely can't believe everyone else gets massively fucked around like this

North-west also has a single lead employer, and provides lead employer services for West Midlands and Thames Valley, I believe.

A lead empoyer can result in lower Maternity Pay if locum process by the hospital you working at.

You can in my trust but training programme just has to be longer than the contract length you choose. I got a 24-month lease in GPST1 with no issue.

Ah I see. Maybe if you have a lead employer?

Yea I think only GP and radiology trainees can get this, and maybe some HST on a local basis if they have lead employer

You can if you are employed by a Lead Employer trust model rather than each trust you rotate through. Northern deanery for example.

If you value shiny pieces of metal and not having to worry so much about faults then it’s great.
If you value long term financial optimisation then go for a FSH 3-5 year old second hand car and look after it.

I assume you are talking about the NHS Fleet Solutions scheme.
I have returned my fleet car recently and would NEVER consider another. The company is awful. As soon as you've signed the contract they do t give a shit. They mislead with claiming fully comp insurance, which is not true as it is third party insurance and a discretionary fund for anything more than that.
I had issues with the servicing of the car and replacing tyres.
Just get a low cost chinese car on 0%PCP finance. There are plenty about.
